Education and technology, past, present and future Reyes Juy Carmen Del Rosario When I was in school, the internet was just being implemented as well as the use of technology. I remember that back then we used a floppy disk to save the works to be presented. At that time I was renting an internet booth to be able to carry out my first tasks in Microsoft Word. Later, as the years progressed, they stopped using floppy disks to use CDs as a form of storage for the presentation of works. Thus, the use of technology was linked to the computer class, the exhibitions were usually using paper and pictures; however, in our senior year of high school we made use of a projector for the first time.

When I started my college education, in 2008, my parents acquired my first personal computer; the use of technology increased and most of the works were presented on pendrives and exposed by means of a projector. However, the big change came later, in 2017 I applied to study an MBA, the technology was applied from the beginning by taking virtual evaluations, through a virtual platform you could have a preparation of the

course to be developed, which included evaluations, videos and discussion forums. Finally, recently and for quarantine reasons I have carried out the support of my thesis project through a virtual platform. On the other hand, I disagree with the education given by China, although technology is necessary and a complement to our daily activities, the excessive or inappropriate use of these can generate distortions in behavior. Because children, in their training stage need to develop as whole and also specific skills, take for instance: solving problems (cognitive-logic), understanding environment (perception), and innovation plus creativity (imagination, ability to create). Although China is a developed country where technology prevails in its day-to-day life, however, due to the political nature of its government, it is often not used adequately but as a method of surveillance and intimidation, which could become train people who only follow rules but not who contribute talent and skills to the harmonious development of the country. One of the alternatives is education in Finland, which has an equitable school system, a sciencebased teacher training program and great respect for teachers. In addition, the schools offer multidisciplinary learning concepts and universities multidisciplinary degree programmes. In a future, teachers will increasingly teach comprehensive learning skills. Furthermore, recent studies have shown that Finland is the happiest country in the world, with the best air quality and the least corruption.

If I am the president of my country: I would direct the education of the country towards the development of activities with the use of technologies. The educational system where only the student's knowledge is scored and not the development of skills puts them at a disadvantage compared to developed countries. I would increase the budget directed towards education and telecommunications development, considering that the use of broadband would increase. On the other hand with relation with technology, we will need new skills to help us manage the formidable tools at our disposal. We need to know how to interpret search results, critically assess the quality and veracity of information and make ethical judgements about how to use it, and we’ll need to think creatively to come up with solutions to increasingly complex global problems. In the future, work will be structured around projects, not processes. That’s an important trend in education too. As routine tasks are taken over by computers, workers will be valued for the creativity and intuition that only the human mind can offer. They will be prized for their ability to innovate, communicate and collaborate in global teams. In addition, the education system of the future, homework will happen before the lesson, and schools and universities will need a much wider variety of places for learning, from spaces where large groups can work together to secluded corners for concentration, and everything in between.

But there will be several factors to improve, such as, the investment of the government on education, the disparity that exists between the urban area and the rural area, the quality of the Peruvian teachers and the infrastructure of the education institutions provided with government funds. Also, the inadequate learning materials, the outdated curricula, and the persistent inequalities related to geographical location, cultural identity and gender. Therefore, the current level of investment in education must grow in order to bring Peru’s level of spending in line with other countries. The infrastructure has to become more relevant. Schools have to generate an atmosphere of creativity and discovery. In a stimulating atmosphere, teachers will feel more motivated, the children and parents will follow. In addition, the country needs that educational policies and national leadership aimed at reversing the trend of mass migration of middle and popular sectors to the private sector emerging school system, to prevent the consolidation of segregation, the insulation of schools and the social marginalization of the population in extreme poverty. It is important to improve rural education, but it is also urgent to strengthen and improve the attractiveness of urban state education. So, it is necesary to carefully allocate resources into effective programs promoting

educational progress and ensuring students’ ability to make the most of the tools made available to them.
