Vanishing Auto This is the first in a series of eight illusion plans contributed to Genii by James P. Riser. They were originally sold through Riser Custom Magic. We appreciate this contribution as we know many of our readers like to build their own illusions. Next month, "The Stocks".

Effect: The curtains open on a black draped stage with a large white net hanging in front of it. The magician, dressed in a light-colored outfit, displays a bright new automobile in the center of the stage. The illusionist instructs the audience to keep their eyes on the car. Suddenly, there is a brilliant flash of light and puff of smoke — the auto has vanished! Workings: As can be seen in the illustrations, this illusion is based on the black art principle. A secret drape conceals the car when the

flash pots go off. This drape is released when the performer or an assistant pulls the fishline which breaks the retaining thread. The effect can be heightened by having several girls on and in front of the auto. The girls on it vanish with the car. The girls in front of the fallen drape remain visible and appear to be startled at the auto's disappearance. This illusion is extremely versatile. It can be used to vanish any large object from an auto to an elephant.
