INTRODUCTION INTRODUCTION
An attempt has been made in this pamphlet to portray only the salient facts relative to the distinctive uniforms and insignia of the Armed Forces of the NATO Nations, which will aid primarily the Allied Headquarters concerned in identification of officers and other ranlcs on duty with them, and of visitors to those installations. Secondarily, this pamphlet will be an aid to the forces in the field for similar purposes. No attempt has been made in this limited space to portray all the types of uniforms and insignia of each service and Nation; first, because ofthe lacl< ofspace, and second, since it is felt that an adequate framework of identification has been provided by the pam ph let to allow visualization of the same or similar insign ia on such items as field u n iforms, helmets, full dress uniforms, working uniforms, overcoats, white and tropical uniforms, and so on. The pamphlet is organized in sections by Nations, in alphabetical order in English. Each National Section is divided into sub-sections, one for each of its ArmeC Forces.
