Application

Most industrial processes generate dust. This dust may profitably be removed for pollution abatement and material recovery purposes. FLS Central Jet Pulse filters are modular bag filters in which the dust-laden air enters through the base or side of the casing, and is evenly distributed between the filter bags. The dust is deposited on the outside of the needle felt bags, while the air passes through the felt into the clean air chamber at the top of the casing before release in the atmosphere. The bags are cleaned by the injection of an ultra- short burst of air. The dust dislodged from the bags either fails direct into a silo (bunker filter), or into the bottom-hopper for return to the production process via an air lock. The air jet burst cleans each row of bags in turn. The blast is triggered by the electronic control unit based on the pressure drop across

Design and operation

the filter. This operating principle causes a constant flow and pressure drop, and implies that the dustremoving frequency is adapted to the current dustload. This method minimises the risk of clogging in the pipe system, and also increases the lifetime of the bags by cleaning only when necessary. The preset level for jet pulse release is in most cases l25mm WG but other levels may also be applied. The filter module comprises 3, 4 or 5 rows, each with 7 cylindrical bags mounted on wire cages 3 m in length and 120 mm in diameter. The filtration area is thus 1.15 m2 per bag. Dedusting capacity is 80—180 m /h per M filtration area according to dust type and operating conditions. 3

FLS Jet Pulse Filter, Type CE 1 comprises 1, 2,4 or 6 basic modules, Type CE 2, an even number of 8-20 modules and Type CE 3 an even number of 22-36 modules. The three types have individual designs of air intake.

Type CE 1 has a pyramid-shaped bottom-hopper while Types CE 2 and CE 3 have troughshaped hoppers. In all three types replacement of bags is effected from the top of the casing (the clean air chamber). All types of industrial dust can be handled. Filters for coal have special features to prevent explosions and fires. The filter is designed to give trouble-free operation 24 hours a day and requires a minimum of maintenance. Filter operati on costs are very often offset by the value of the material recovered. Further more, effective dedusting averts shutdowns, while the reduction in industrial pollution should be considered in each case. The type designations are CE 1, CE 2, and CE 3 (CEntral installation) followed by size specification digits indicating number of modules and number of solenoid valves, respectively.

Type of dust A Non-agglomerating dust (Fly ash, metal oxides) B Partially agglomerating dust (Cement, coal, limestone) C Heavily agglomerating dust (Gypsum, ground sand).
