What is one social issue that affects young people the most? Nowadays, millennials conquer the entire spectrum of the world because they are always living with curiosity to gain understanding on everything. As technological advancement arises, they tend to go deeper and wider on the ideas for them to connect with other people. Social media sites are where mainly the millennials take advantage of associating themselves to the issues of our country. Issues which arises and focuses on Gender Equality, Good Governance, Environment, Human Rights, Corruption, Accountability, Climate Change, International Issues and a lot more. Youths are being greatly affected by these issues because things they can see can manifest and impact their future for doing good or bad things. With all the issues arising in both sideways, I presumed, “Apathy” is one of the primary root cause of everything that affects young people nowadays. According to the famous writer of the Harry Potter series, JK Rowling, “Indifference and neglect often do much more damage than outright dislike.” Generally, youths in today’s time horizon are associating themselves specifically on things which can entertain them rather than educate them. As a millennial, I see to it that what matters generally to us is the pleasure of happiness and enjoyment instead of a sacrificial onset. Try to think of an idea or issue and present it to us, youth. At first, we are being stunned by the facts because it’s new to us and gives us an excitement. Sooner or later on, things piece by piece are becoming blurred to because it gets older. Youth always wanted fresh things in their mind so basically there comes a time that certain things are being taken for granted. Youth usually deviates on things which are very important which results to defeating the passion and purpose. It’s ironic, but it’s true to what I observed though everything is inevitable so as to youth wherein they can be more aware of things. Being apathetic also mean you are neglecting and ignoring things. Sad to say most of the youth in our country’s setting are like that. I believe a certain factor like cultural indifferences is such a big hindrance why youth don’t really participate. Cultural indifferences demonstrates how not being aware of culture which causes problems everywhere. See to it this is one of the big reasons why apathy is really happening. Youth can be considered underage or not capable of making decision. This bars usually raises my assumption on why youth would go apathetic rather than empathetic. Cultural indifferences brings fear to youth because living on different perspective is a gradual distraught in understanding things. Youth does really covers up the entire population of our country which I believe we do really have the voice to change, shape and nurture. But we, the youths, does really care about what’s happening around us? We are very vital to the progression, but if simply caring wouldn’t be satisfied then there’s no possible solution in finding a problem. Being underestimated by the Generation X, some of them see to it that we are just craving for satisfaction that we don’t really value things and just go along the flow. Empathy instead of apathy is a must for the youth. Youth engagement in all aspects serves to be one of the hope on how we can achieve a developed and sustainable country. Youth has fresh ideas that needed to be share that must not be opted with silence. We must be vocal and not be on silence or neglect to avoid oppression and marginalization. So to speak as a youth on writing this essay I strongly suggests serving with your passion and don’t let apathy eats you. Avoid apathy as it is a form of injustice to our mother country. As to what my motto says, “Learn to Inspire, Know to Aspire, but never to Expire,” learn how to sympathize as we go along with it we will know our own value. Once we know our value, we can do great things and share it with everyone. Forcing everyone with deeper and wider motivation gives them the

capacity and capability to act on things. Apathy might seem to be a bad thing, but not as always though we must learn where should we be responsible enough. As a youth we can do everything because we are the millennial of our age wherein we are tech-savy, collaborative, multi-taskers and a lot more to mention. It is indeed we are a great source of change and transparency in providing great future to our country. Apathy might be evident everywhere which really tackles all the issues here in our country. Youth should come up of realization that apathy greatly affects us as individual and the society where we are living in. Again and again I want to stress out that we should speak and be heard because we are the potential leaders of this nation. With a great substance of care, engagement, sympathy and love, we can initiate a nation building process to our country wherein we can live with prosperity and wisdom.
