September 28, 2002 McKinsey & Company Dear Recruiting Coordinator, I am writing to introduce myself as a candidate for the Business Analyst Position. I will be graduating from Columbia University in May 2003 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics. Through various economic courses and experiences in past work environments, I have developed a deep interest in business and its growing appeal has led me to pursue a career in the financial industry. Working for Merrill Lynch’s Private Client Wealth Management Division provided me with my first exposure to a business setting. This internship allowed me to conduct research that impacted the strategic approaches for increasing company profitability. Along with managing extensive research on the equity market, I also analyzed industry events to assist in predicting future industry trends. Other responsibilities included giving a number of presentations to the division’s financial consultants and overseeing a project in developing a marketing strategy that would assist in recruiting CPA’s to the Merrill Lynch Professional Alliance Program. My internship at Merrill Lynch gave me the opportunity to hone my leadership skills, which are necessary in an intense business environment. With McKinsey & Company as one of the market leaders, I am excited to learn how it maintains an excellent track record in increasing client value. I would like to experience a career in McKinsey’s strong company culture that values it rigorous ethical standard. In addition, I am eager to contribute to the synergy created in teams, as I would collaborate with top employers that have a common goal of achievement. In addition to my education, experience, and work ethic, I have full confidence that my insight and passion for analyzing business situations will contribute greatly to the firm. I welcome the opportunity to meet with you and discuss my qualifications for the position. Thank you for your time and consideration. Sincerely, Daniel K. Lee
