DANA FARRELL (403) 702-3303 [email protected] 122 Auburn Meadows Walk SE Calgary, AB T3M 2E7

Calgary Board of Education Education Centre 1221 – 8 Street SW Calgary AB T2R 0L4 To whom it may concern, I am writing to express my interest in the open position of elementary French Immersion teacher. I have extensive experience with the French language as an immersion student and as a graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in French (2016) from the University of Lethbridge. Furthermore, my practicum experiences in elementary settings, with two of those being in French Immersion, where I was assessed as exceeding expectations only add to my experience as a pre-service teacher. I am graduating this April with my Bachelor of Education from the University of Lethbridge (2018). My teaching experience is of limited quantity but of high quality practicum semesters as a recent graduate from the University of Lethbridge’s esteemed Education program. Even before my professional practicum semesters, I was selectively pre-assssed and recognized as “highly recommended” for admission into the faculty of Education based on a preliminary practicum called ED2500. Later, my first practicum was in Picture Butte, Alberta at Dorothy Dalgliesh Elementary where I taught grade 2 Science, Math, English and music in planning our Christmas Concert in the Fall of 2016. Next, I taught grade 5 French Immersion at École Agnes Davidson in Lethbridge, Alberta in the Spring 2017 where I taught French Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies. Here, I assisted with homework club and the coordination, planning and execution of our Franco-FUN-ie Day where we invited all regional French Immersion schools in the name of celebrating bilingualism. Finally, for my final PSIII internship that began this January and ends April 25th 2018, I have been teaching French, Social Studies, Science, Art and Health and assist with our “School Cheer” club. In addition, I am also pursuing a professional inquiry project, which is going to be in the form of school-wide resource for Anglophone parents of French Immersion students to support families in the pursuit of a French immersive education on both academic and socio-cultural levels to promote and sustain long-term commitment to the program. Throughout my practicums, I was recognized as exceeding expectations by the University, and it is these expectations that directly coincide with the “Knowledge, Skills and Attributes” for teachers as prescribed by Alberta Education. I was also most notably recognized for my ability to connect and build strong relationships with students, parents and with the school community. What I would also bring to this position would be my undying sense of creativity, my strong presence in the classroom, my reflective practice and my ability to personalize learning for every and all students through a student-centered and differentiated process. For, I was also recognized for my intuition as I truly get to know students not only as learners, but also as people. This drove my practice and allowed me to translate concepts and outcomes into student-friendly language through the construction of projects, lessons, and activities that were meaningful, relatable, and useful for my students which only strengthened our strong relationship and sense of learning community that I strongly establish in the classroom. For, my three defining and driving values as an educator would be my studentcentered practice, my passion for student independence and choice in learning and my commitment to lifelong learning through a reflective practice. I want to thank you for your consideration of my candidacy for the position of your next great elementary French immersion teacher. I have attached my resume and my teaching references to supplement my application. Sincerely, Dana Farrell University of Lethbridge Education Student
