Kamewa A-series waterjet
Kamewa waterjet propulsion concept provides – – – – – – – –
Excellent high speed performance State-of-the-art control system Superior manoeuvrability at all speeds Shallow draught Superior efficiency Reduced noise and vibration levels Increased comfort Simple, reliable and robust construction
A unique concept Kamewa A-series is the first and only aluminium waterjet series in the world with mixed-flow pump technology. Due to the utilisation of mixed-flow pumps, hydrodynamically optimised design and exacting production techniques, the A-series has 510% higher efficiency than the competing aluminium waterjets. This higher efficiency can be utilised for higher vessel speed and/or lower fuel consumption. The impeller, shaft, steering- / reversing rods and optionally also impeller housing, guide vane chamber and steering nozzle are made of stainless steel. All other components are of aluminium construction based on thorough strength calculations to minimise the weight. To minimise wearing and corrosion the aluminium impeller housing is coated with polyurethane coating and stainless steel liner. In case of very hard conditions the Aseries waterjets can be delivered with stainless steel impeller housing, guide vane chamber and steering nozzle for maximum wear and corrosion resistance. These models are called A40S, A45S, A50S and A56S. A water-lubricated cutless bearing is used for ease of service and maintenance. The thrust bearing is well-established and supported on the inlet duct.
A CanMan databus steering/reversing and hydraulic system can be supplied to allow easy installation and high reliability. The CanMan system is redundant on application and network levels as well as on electric supply level. All A-series waterjets can also be supplied as boosters. The documentation can be supplied in either paper or electronic format to ensure easy access for both the builder and the operator of the vessel. On delivery, the Kamewa A-series waterjets are painted and complete with structurally dimensioned inlet ducts for easy installation by bolting and welding. Rolls-Royce - the professional supplier All Kamewa A-series waterjets are produced using the latest 3D CAD/CAM tools to ensure high level of quality and accuracy in design and manufacturing. Rolls-Royce utilises its own proprietary, computerised design program, which contains the latest waterjet technology data combined with the actual results from earlier waterjet installations. Aided by this program, individual influences and the combined effect of all the existing outlet diameters and blade pitch angles will be studied to optimise the performance of every installation.

Rolls-Royce is the world leader in research, development and manufacture of waterjets for commercial, naval and pleasure-boat markets. Rolls-Royce is the only supplier in the industry with its own, fully equipped hydrodynamic research centre. The centre continously develops and tests new products and refines the existing product line.
Fact Sheet
Displacement table: The table to the right shows maximum displacements for each A-series waterjet. The waterjet unit can be installed on both displacement and planing crafts as single, twin, triple or quadruple systems.
Displacement (tonnes)
Recommended maximum displacement for planing hulls over 30 knots.
For displacement hull applications it is recommended to select a larger jet diameter than required by a faster planing hull at same power. The diagram below shows the suitable engine power rating for different shaft speeds. The A-series offers eight different water outlet nozzle diameters to provide a balance to the waterjet speed, and five different impeller blade pitch angles for fine adjustment of the rpm. The final combination of the outlet diameter and the blade pitch angle will be seeked out by Rolls-Royce to ensure the optimum performance and the lowest possible fuel consumption for the vessel in question.
