[Track 4]

Listen to the conversations. Check the correct information.

1. ERIC: You know, Wendy, summer’s almost here. What are you doing for vacation? WENDY: Well, I’m going to visit my grandparents for a few weeks. They’re getting older, and I want to spend more time with them. ERIC: That’s nice. My grandparents live too far away to visit. So, are you going anywhere else this summer? WENDY: Oh, I’m not sure. I think I’ll spend a few days at the beach. How about you, Eric? Any plans? ERIC: Me? I’m going to go fishing with friends. I’m really looking forward to it! WENDY: Oh, that sounds like fun! Maybe I’ll go camping in August. I’d love to visit a national park.

4. MARTHA: Rules?! You think we need to have rules? LEAH: Sure, why not? Then we’ll both know whose job it is to do things. MARTHA: OK, all right. As long as you don’t ask me to change too much. LEAH: What do you mean? MARTHA: Well, my mom was always yelling at me, “Martha, can you turn the radio down?” and “Martha, would you mind not leaving the TV on all the time?” LEAH: Uh-oh. I need it to be really quiet when I’m studying. No music, no TV. MARTHA: And I can’t study without listening to my CDs – turned up all the way! LEAH: OK, Martha, we have a little problem here. Maybe you could wear headphones when you listen to music. MARTHA: I guess I could do that.

2. WENDY: Which national park do you recommend? ERIC: For camping? Well, I think Acadia National Park is the most beautiful. By the way, who are you going with? WENDY: My best friend has been wanting me to go with her for a while. Do you think we’ll need to make a reservation? ERIC: Absolutely! August is the busiest month for park visitors. You ought to find out if campsites are still available. WENDY: Good idea. What else should we do before going camping? ERIC: Well, you’d better check all your equipment before you leave home. And be sure to bring along a first-aid kit. 3. MARTHA: I’m so glad we’re going to be roommates this year, Leah. LEAH: Me, too! I’ve been looking forward to sharing an apartment. MARTHA: Yeah. And I really needed to find a new roommate. I had a lot of trouble with my last one. LEAH: Oh, Martha, what happened? MARTHA: Well, it was a bit like living with my mother. She was always telling me things like “Hang up your jacket!” and “Pick up the magazines.” LEAH: Um, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with being clean. I like to keep my room neat. MARTHA: Oh, no, Leah! You like to clean up all the time, too? Well, maybe you can keep everything picked up and put away for both of us! LEAH: Mmm, no, I think we should pick up our own things and wash our own dishes. Maybe we just need to have a few rules. . .
