Mozart was born in 1756, the son of a professional musician. His father soon ___gave up__ (give up) composing when he recognized his son's musical talent. By the age of three, the young Mozart ___had learned__ (learn) to play several pieces of music. While he and his father _were travelling__ (travel) round Europe, Mozart met many famous musicians and composers. Before he was 17, he __had composed_ (compose) several operas. While he _was visiting_ (visit) the Vatican in Rome, he _listened__ (listen) to a piece of music which, up to this point, the Vatican authorities __had kept__ (keep) secret. No one _had published_ (publish) a copy of the piece before, but Mozart _managed_ (manage) to write it down from memory after he __had listened___ (listen) to it once. By the age of 30 he _had become_ (become) one of the most famous composers in Europe, and __had_ (have) a large apartment in Vienna, which is now a tourist attraction. It was here that he __wrote_ (write) his famous opera The Marriage ar Figaro. In 1791, while he __was working___ (work) on his Requiem, he _fell_ (fall) ill and died at the age of 35.
