INTRODUCCIÓN La pancreatitis aguda es un proceso inflamatorio agudo del páncreas. La mortalidad varía del 3 por ciento en pacientes con pancreatitis edematosa intersticial al 17 por ciento en pacientes que desarrollan necrosis pancreática [ 1,2 ]. Este tema revisa el manejo de la pancreatitis aguda. Nuestras recomendaciones son en gran medida consistentes con las pautas de la Asociación Estadounidense de Gastroenterología, el Colegio Americano de Gastroenterología y la Asociación Internacional de Pancreatología / Asociación Estadounidense de Páncreas para el tratamiento de la pancreatitis aguda [ 3 - 6 ]. La etiología, las manifestaciones clínicas, el diagnóstico y la evaluación de la gravedad de la pancreatitis aguda se analizan por separado. CLASIFICACIÓN Según la clasificación de Atlanta, la pancreatitis aguda se puede dividir en dos grandes categorías [ 7 ]: ● ●Pancreatitis

aguda edematosa intersticial, que se caracteriza por inflamación aguda del parénquima

pancreático y los tejidos peripancreáticos, pero sin necrosis tisular reconocible. ● ●Pancreatitis

aguda necrotizante, que se caracteriza por inflamación asociada con necrosis del parénquima

pancreático y / o necrosis peripancreática.
