MACHO MOTORCYCLE Painted toys are MDF (medium density fiberboard) or fine grained hardwoods to make a smooth base for a glossy surface. Finish is spray can color glosses over white primer. First apply 3 coats of primer sanding each coat with 220 sandpaper when dry. Then apply 3 coats of gloss paint sanding each coat with 400 sandpaper when dry. Apply final coat of gloss clear. Do not sand final coat. Note: All Rust-Oleum and Krylon paints and finishes are non-toxic when dry.

MACHO MOTORCYCLE Motorcycle shown is premium white pine lumber tinted by heat-treating in a kitchen oven at 400 degrees at various time lengths before assembly. The toy was first sanded with 80, 120, 150 and 200 grit sandpaper. The final step was to apply spray can clear gloss polyurethane.
Motorcycle shown is tinted with the method described on page 7. It has a final finish of 3 coats of spray can polyurethane clear coat sanded with 400 grit paper followed with a finish coat that is not sanded.

Obtain tints from light to dark on any wood without staining.
Wood parts are tinted before glue assembly by heat-treating. Glues dry quickly with a strong bond. THIS DO-IT-YOURSELF WOODTINTING FORMULA STERILIZES THE WOOD AND IT’S NON-TOXIC AND USES NO STAINS! Baking the wood creates a safe but noticeable odor. As an alternative to baking the wood in your kitchen oven you may want to use a toaster oven outside on our porch or deck. Used toaster ovens in your area are available on Craigslist.org. Step1: For the both tints shown pre-heat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit or 200 degrees Celcius. Step 2: Place the parts to be tinted on a cookie sheet and place it in the oven. The dark tone requires one hour in the oven. The light tone requires 1/2 hour in the oven. For darker tones increase the oven time. For lighter tones decrease the oven time. Step 3: Remove tinted parts from oven and let cool until warm to the touch. Step 4: After the toy is assembled and glued apply Cynthia’s Paste Wax Finish. The home-made formula is on our website at toymakingplans.com ALTERNATE FINAL FINISH COAT: Instead of Cynthia’s Paste Wax Finish apply 3 coats of spray can polyurethane clear coat and sand each coat when dry with 400 grit paper. Apply 2 final finish coats that are not sanded.
