Kiko’s solo follows an A-B-A-C structure, mostly in the key of E minor. The A section is just a repeating Em-B7 change, and this gives you a few options. The simplest thing is to copy Kiko and use E harmonic minor (E F# G A B C D#) which fits both chords. Aeolian (E F# G A B C D) will work well for Em, and possibly for B7 too... it’s a matter of personal taste, and you can always alternate between Aeolian and harmonic minor. The B section has a partially chromatic descending bass line (E-C#-C-B) so we need to switch scales. You can easily use E Dorian (E F# G A B C# D) through the Em and A9/C# chords, or maybe get a bluesy sound with minor pentatonic (E G A B D) or blues scale (E G A Bb B D). For the Cmaj7-B7 change, the easiest solution is to return to harmonic minor. The C section is mostly just alternating Am and Em chords, so E Aeolian and minor pentatonic will work perfectly here. Note how Kiko uses A minor pentatonic (A C D E G) in measures 33-34... this seems like a change of scale, but the A minor pentatonic notes are all contained within E Aeolian anyway. This time, the descending pattern uses C9 instead of Cmaj7, so we have the option of using C Mixolydian (C D E F G A Bb) but Kiko just continues E Dorian through the A9/C# and C9 chords. After switching to harmonic minor for the B7, he then uses Dorian for the ending, which then functions as A Mixolydian (same notes, but root on A) for the final A7 chord. www.jamtrackcentral.com
