Career Having obtained a degree in economics at University of Belgrano (Licentiate) and having received two Master's Degrees at Instituto de Desarrollo Económico y Social (IDES) and Torcuato di Tella University, he became chief economist at Máxima AFJP (private pension company), head economist at Estudio Broda (financial advising company) and government consultant at International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes. He used to be senior economist atHSBC as well.[3] Since 2012, leads the division of Economic Studies, Fundación Acordar, a think tank of national scope.[3] He is also a member of B20, Economic Policy Group of International Chamber of Commerce (advisor to G20), and World Economic Forum. He is a specialist in economic growth with and without money and has been professor of several economic subjects in Argentine universities [4] and abroad. He has authored more than 50 academic papers, nearly 100 journalistic articles, and 9 published books.

For more than 20 years he has been University Professor of Macroeconomics, Economics of Growth, Microeconomics and Mathematics for Economists. Since 2013 he has been reading and lecturing on Austrian economics, about which he stated "Austrians' conceptual clarity is superlative and strongly dominates the rest of schools." In relation to the Economics School of University of Buenos Aires, he has controversially asserted: "the main producer of Argentina's economists is a Marxist indoctrination center," resulting in "the ubiquitous proliferation of Keynesian brutes."[5] Another controversy consisted in having stated that Domingo Cavallo was the best economist Argentina ever had.[6] Along with José Luis Espert, Roberto Cachanosky and others he has endorsed the creation of a libertarian political party to take part in 2019 presidential elections.[7] Besides his academic career, Milei is the host of his own radio show named "Demoliendo mitos" (Demolishing myths), with frequent participations of the also libertarian economist Gustavo Lazzari and other personalities such as conservative writer Nicolás Marquez and libertarian economist Diego Giacomini.[8][9]

Personal life He was born in 1970 to a bus driver.[5] Milei did high school at Cardenal Copello and decided to pursue a career in economics at age 12 after José Alfredo Martínez de Hoz department led the economy to a devastating hyperinflation. In late adolescence and early adulthood he was goalkeeper of Chacarita Juniors until 1989.[10] He also sang in the band "Everest," that did mostly Rolling Stones

covers.[5] He has suggested in a La Nación interview that with regard to love he is a champion of open couples because, in his words, "there is nothing better than competition."[11]
