c A story

by John Right

verything began on July 10th. During my last winter holidays, my family and I rented a cabin in Cajón del Maipo. The cabin was small, but nice. One night, my cousins, Jorge and Luis, and I decided to camp outside. That Wednesday, we put up the tent, got in and stayed up till very late. Finally, we fell asleep.

The next morning, we went to the house and while we were having breakfast, my dad asked, “Did you hear the owl last night?” “The what?” we asked back. “The owl. It screamed like crazy last night”.

(Editorial file)

That Thrusday, at about 2 in the morning I heard a loud cry that made me jump. We were shaking. My cousins also woke up with the cry. We were scared to death, so we stayed in the tent but we didn’t sleep. The cries continued during the rest of the night. It rained all day. We didn’t know what to do, go back to the cabin or stay. We stayed.

HOLIDAYS

by Norah Smith

I remember that day clearly. I was 7 years old and this was my first trip to the mountains with my mum. When we got there, I saw some kids sliding down on big black rubbish bags. I wanted to do the same but my mum said I was too young. So I cried and I screamed. She had two options: hear me scream all day or let me slide down the slope. Finally, she said yes. I started sliding and when I was halfway down the slope, some bushes got in the way and I landed right in the middle of them. I twisted my ankle and we had to go to a hospital right away. It hurt so much that I cried and screamed all the way back. My mum was not very happy. (Editorial file)

CITIES

Life in the city Look at the picture. What are Sofía and Tomás doing?

I don’t think so, Sofía. If they want to move, you can’t do anything. Do you think I can convince my cousins not to move away?

So where are they moving? I guess you’re right.

They don’t know yet. They want to find another city, but more peaceful.

Do you think they will find a place like that? I don’t know. Maybe we could help them!

Good idea, Sofía!

What makes a city a good place to live? Discuss.
