PURPOSE OF AMEL BASIC SKILLS TASKS /PRACTICAL MAINTENANCE EXPERIENCE LOIGBOOK

Emirates Engineering Training

This logbook has been developed by Emirates Engineering Training in its current format as the means of recording the Basic Skills Tasks/Practical Maintenance Experience in order to demonstrate Basic Skills (accomplished during Basic Training) and preceding two years Practical Maintenance Experience aimed at acquiring the successful completion of the AMEL Training Program and meeting the requirements of GCAA CAR 66 AMEL Basic license in the appropriate Category (A, B1 or B2). To guide the applicant to gain minimum relevant Basic Practical Maintenance Experience that represents a cross section of maintenance activities. It is obvious that each applicant will perform more work in some ATA chapters than in others. Thus, space given in this logbook for each ATA chapter should only been viewed as a way to document minimum experience. Additional pages are found at the end of the logbook (section-4) for Trainee to document additional work to support his/her application for CAR 66 AMEL. The AMEL Basic Skills Tasks and the Practical Maintenance Experience Program is split as follows:  

Basic Skills Tasks Training. Practical Maintenance Experience Training.

SECTION 1  Personal and Practical Maintenance Experience Details.  List of Basic Training Instructor/Engineers/ Practical Trainer/Assessors SECTION 2 Basic Skills Tasks is aimed to guide the AMEL Trainees acquire the basic skills required in the aircraft maintenance in line with GCAA CAR 66 AMEL during the theoretical training program in the Basic Training workshop/CAR 145 environment.  AMEL Trainees shall record the basic Skills training carried out during theoretical training programme. The Basic Training Instructor/ Technical Instructor shall verify this information and make the necessary remarks regarding the competency and level achieved by the Aircraft Maintenance Trainees and certify by signing the appropriate column of this logbook that he/she has obtained competency in all the relevant Basic Skills listed in this logbook during his/her training period and is as per CAR66 requirements.

SECTION 3

Emirates Engineering Training

Practical Maintenance Experience: is aimed at acquiring the required Maintenance Experience during Two years after the successful completion of the theoretical classroom training.  AMEL Trainees shall record all maintenance tasks carried out during the Two years of the Practical Maintenance Experience. The Engineer/ Practical Trainer/Assessor shall verify this information and make the necessary remarks regarding the competency and level achieved by the Aircraft Maintenance Trainees. The Engineer/Practical Trainer/Assessor shall ensure and certify that trainees have obtained the necessary competency in all the relevant Practical Maintenance Experience tasks listed in this logbook during his/her training period and is as per CAR 66 requirements. An assessment is required to be completed by the Approved Practical Assessor for the verification of the competencies required by the trainee to demonstrate the extent of his/her practical skills and maintenance experience. NOTE: All entries shall be written with a black or blue pen. The AMEL Maintenance Experience training may be accomplished on Civil Aircraft in an Approved Maintenance Organization (CAR-145), Hanger and Line Maintenance and shall be duly authenticated by an Engineer/Practical Trainer/Assessor

DEFINITIONS:

Emirates Engineering Training

Logbook Usage The usage of this logbook is in support of an application to GCAA for CAR 66 AMEL Basic License in appropriate Category (A, B1 or B2). It will enable the GCAA to process the application more efficiently and reduce the handling time for the application. The logbook may be used to support applications under CAR 66. The Logbook Holder It is the responsibility of the logbook holder to record the tasks, qualifications and experience as necessary and overall to maintain the logbook in a clear and accurate manner. The Basic Training Instructor / Technical Instructor The Basic Training Instructor /Technical Instructor will prepare and conduct the basic skills tasks and assessment during theoretical training in the Engineering and Training Workshops for AMEL program. He will sign off the respective entries made by the logbook holder when satisfied that the entries reflect what work has been carried out. The Engineer / Practical Trainer / Assessor The personnel should be an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer who signs off the entries made by the logbook holder when satisfied that the entries reflect what work has been carried out under their supervision. The Practical Assessor The Practical Assessor will sign off the Logbook title Assessor page when satisfied that the all entries contained in this logbook and that all entries made by the logbook holder has been signed off by the respective Engineer / Practical Trainer / Assessor It is the Practical Assessor’s responsibility to carry out a Final assessment to evaluate the necessary practical knowledge and competency required by the logbook holder to demonstrate the extent of practical skills and maintenance experience necessary for the holder to submit an application for GCAA CAR 66 AMEL Basic license.

Final Task Assessment Process A Final assessment will be carried out by the Practical Assessor to evaluvate the trainee after completion of the logbook. The task for the assessment will be chosen randomly from the Practical Maintenance Experience Logbook. For grading, the assessor makes a tick mark in the grading column based on the assessor’s evaluation of the assessment. In grading, only one ‘Poor’ grading will be acceptable in any area of the 7 assessments. More than one poor grading will require a second assessment to be carried out.

INTRODUCTION Practical Maintenance Tasks required to be logged depend on the category AML is sought. Thus, the applicant has to select tasks relevant to a category or subcategories. For example tasks required for category B2 rating needs to be more in depth related to ATA chapter 22, 23, 24, 27, 31, 34, 42, 44 and 46 than in other chapters.

Maintenance tasks which are considered as CAT ‘A’ are:  Maintenance tasks performed on aircraft structure, power plant and mechanical and electrical systems on minor scheduled line maintenance and simple defect rectification.  Work on avionics systems requiring only simple tests to prove their serviceability and requiring simple troubleshooting.

Maintenance tasks which are considered as CAT ‘B1’ are:  Maintenance tasks performed on aircraft structure, power plant and mechanical and electrical systems  Work on avionics systems requiring only simple tests to prove their serviceability and not requiring in-depth troubleshooting.

Maintenance tasks which are considered as CAT ‘B2’ are:  

Maintenance tasks performed on avionic and electrical systems Electrical and avionics tasks within power plant and mechanical systems, requiring only simple tests to prove their serviceability

A CAR 66 AMEL privilege provides information about definitions for maintenance task related to the Electrical system, Avionics system, Simple test, Troubleshooting, Line maintenance and Base maintenance.

Basic experience requirements duration:  Implementing rule CAR 66.30 provides information about basic experience requirements duration an applicant needs to demonstrate when applying for respective category

Emirates Engineering Training

Nature of Experience Required for the Practical Maintenance Task

Documented experience needs to be a broad cross section of maintenance tasks at both Line and Base (Hanger) Maintenance Levels. Experience should be across all relevant systems (appropriate ATA Chapters) for the category(s) applying for and typically should include:  Completing all aspects of a number of line and base level routine inspections and servicing  A broad cross section of the following representative tasks on the various aircraft systems;  Fault isolation / trouble shooting.  Repair  Rigging and adjustments,  Component changes,  Use of special tooling and test equipment,  Functional / operational checks,  Releasing the aircraft to service.

Functional or Operational Check - means: to power up the system, carry out normal operation and functional check as per the Aircraft Maintenance Manual and shut the system down. Test Equipment is not used. Fault Isolation – means: familiarity and understanding of the procedures and requirements in troubleshooting and rectification. Note: All Tasks should be carried out under the direct supervision of Technician/Engineer/Practical Trainer/Assessor
