We often use Echo Questions to check information. We do this when the information we get is surprising or unbelievable. There are 3 possible ways to ask an echo question:

-I read 3 books last week - 3 books? Wow, that’s awesome! -I love sushi - Sushi? But you don’t like Japanese food. -I saw my best friend last week -Your best friend? Wasn’t he in Europe? NOTE: We sometimes have to change possesive forms or pronouns to keep the sentence logical.

 

Every tense has an auxiliary verb. Keep in mind that it can be difficult to identify the correct auxiliary. -

Be careful!

I have a beautiful car - You do?

I’m going to buy a house next year. - You are?



Remember: The object of the sentence is what comes after the verb. It can be a person or a thing. I read 3 books last week I love sushi

In this case, be careful with the Question Word. The most common Question word used is

What.
