The use of up- and downstemmed notation is used to differentiate between right- and left-hand roles, repectively. Throughout, X's are used for the percussion facets. Concerning the left-hand: X's on the E string mean to tap the side of the upper bout while an A-string X indicates tapping the body of the guitar, next to the pickguard. While the right-hand is predominately used for melody work, X's in the top melody refer to tapping the base of the lower bout during the intro.
