Death penalty By: Karina Lizbeth Guevara Martínez It was a quiet morning on January 14th, 2015 in the state of Texas. The sky was cloudy and the mist was covering the air. Everything seemed to be normal, until the calm was disrupted by a loud noise. A police car appeared. The patrol stopped just in front of #1123, Sunset Avenue. An instant later the police officer got off his car and hastily walked towards the building. What had happened? Who could know? A 45 year woman was found death. A neighbor had discovered the terrible scene and called 911. The apartment door was opened and the entire place was a mess. The body was left in the middle of the living room. She had been tied with a rope around her neck. Her body had several scratches and bruises. Her name was Laura Alegría. Everyone in the neighborhood were astonished with the news because Laura was a peaceful and kind person. Soon afterwards, a criminal investigation started and after a long process the murderer was caught. Because of the Texas law for this cases, he has been sentenced to death. But suddenly something went wrong. The defense stipulated that not enough evidences has been presented. It was time to look for more witness. Laura's family was devastated. They have been waiting a long period of time for the judgment day and now it seems like everything had gone to garbage. All their justice desire was taken away. Their feelings have been hurt. They did not expect such a negative experience. They certainly didn't want to be ignored. Family's lawyer would have to do a greater effort to work things out. Finally, the murderer confessed and the case was determined as a first degree murder. The criminal's name was John Tena, and he was sentenced to capital punishment. Which must be occurring in no longer than months by lethal injection. All effort was worth it! The only issue that was left behind was how the family would heal the pain... I believe that Mexico, in general, has a good justice system, however, the application of the law does not always benefit those who are right, and corruption often makes it unfair.
