MET 2 ICPNA

CLASS OBSERVATION COURSE: B04 TEACHER: MR. CABANILLAS 1. Is there an achievement aim for the lesson? Explain Yes, I consider that this class had an achievement aim that was “TO LEARN NEW VOCABULARY RELATED TO JOBS” because this was the main objective the teacher wanted to achieve during the class, and for that the teacher followed different steps with different aims (procedure aims) for example repeat the new words of the vocabulary, complete the activities of the book, etc. 2. Are the teacher instructions simple and easy? Is there any modeling? Comprehension check? Explain Well, I guess the instructions were simple and easy since it was a Basic course, for example teacher just said listen and complete. Also, what helped the students to understand instructions well were all gestures that the teacher uses during the class and even more when he gave instructions. But something that was not used by the teacher in a good way was modeling because there was an activity in which each student had to create a sentence with two words that teacher said; so, even the instruction were simple students couldn’t do it well at the beginning because they didn’t hear before any model and it took some time to run the activity well. About the comprehension check I also consider that in this point teacher didn’t put enough attention since just in some activities he asked “What are we going to do?” but in other activities he didn’t. However, something that was interesting for me was that even teacher didn’t use in some activities any modeling or checking comprehension students did a good job and I think that it’s because some activities from the book are always the same to do and students don’t need too much explanation for doing it. 3. Does the teacher work to reduce TTT and increase STT? Explain Well, most of the time who spoke more was the teacher because he had to introduce the activities, explain vocabulary and explain some other things. I guess that just in some occasions he tried to reduce TTT when some student asks and another student answers and little by little all students participate without intervention of teacher.

MET 2 ICPNA In conclusion, I could notice that teacher has a good rapport because all the time he smiles and make jokes related to the topic something that engage students and avoid making the class boring. Also, he know well his students and I notice that when he asked one of his students if she was ok maybe because she was not like always. Another think I could see, was that at the begging teacher speaks unnatural maybe because I was there also he was kind of impatient but later those things changed. I saw that teacher sometimes didn’t adjust the lesson content in response to learners because he covered some activities faster and he didn’t pay attention to what some students wanted to ask, I think it is because it was the last class and he had to cover all the lessons.
