Se considera que la arena contiene componentes orgánicos posiblemente perjudiciales, cuando el color que sobrenada por encima de la muestra de ensayo, es más oscuro que el color normal de referencia. En tal caso, se deben efectuar ensayos complementarios, antes de aprobar la arena para su utilización en la fabricación de concreto hidráulico.

EQUIVALENTE DE ARENA USO Y SIGNIFICADO • Este ensayo produce como resultado un valor empírico de la cantidad relativa de finos y material arcilloso presente en la muestra de suelo o agregado fino. • Puede especificarse un valor mínimo del equivalente de arena, para limitar la cantidad permisible de finos arcillosos en un agregado.

• Este método de ensayo permite determinar rápidamente, en el campo, variaciones de calidad de los materiales que se estén produciendo o utilizando.
