1 Zünd Design Center - ZDC ®

The Zünd Design Center is an Adobe Illustrator plug-in for the creation of packaging and three dimensional POS displays made from folding carton, corrugated cardboard and sandwich material. It is based on an extensive library with parametrized designs. ® ® Select a design and enter the desired dimensions. In Adobe Illustrator you can complete the design with logos, templates and other Illustrator design components. You can preview the 3D model at any time. Exporting a 3D PDF file or illustrations in the .png file format is ideal for use in presentations and proposals. Every design is already formatted so that you can import it directly into the Zünd Cut Center without any additional steps. The Zünd Design Center plug-in consists of the following two components: • Library • Preview
1.1 Licence information The plug-in only works with a valid hardware key. This hardware key contains the licence information required to use the plug-in. Insert the hardware key into a vacant USB port before starting the Zünd Cut Center.

1.3 Program updates Depending on the license purchased, you can use the Zünd Design Center for either 1, 3 or 5 years. During this time, you will receive all program and design updates at no extra cost. Contact your Zünd contact for further information.
1.4 Extending the licence After expiration of the program license you can no longer use the ZDC. Contact your Zünd partner if you wish to extend the licence.
1.5 Performing the installation A Download the installation file and save this. B Insert the hardware key into a free USB port. C Double-click the installation file: • ZDCsetupx.x.msi for Windows • ZDCsetupx.x.pkg for Max/OS D Read and accept the end user licence agreement. E Confirm the recommended installation path. F Click Install to start the installation.
1.6 Windows: Delete ZDC A Start the system controls. B Double-click the software. C Select the Zünd Design Center from the list of installed programs and then click Delete or Add/ Remove. When a dialogue box is displayed, follow the instructions to remove the program.

2 General information about the library
All designs in the library are parameterized. This means that you only have to determine the relevant dimensions. All other dimensions are calculated automatically. The Zünd Design Center includes creations by well-known packaging designers as well as standard designs (FEFCO).

3 License information In the Library tab, the license information is shown (installed program version, hardware key identification, remaining license duration). Contact your Zünd partner if you wish to extend the licence.

4 Operation The ZDC consists of two components, which can be called up separately: • Library: Select the design • Preview: 3D view of the selected design ® ® A Start Adobe Illustrator . B Click on Window. C In the menu Window position the mouse cursor on Zünd Design Center and click Library or Preview.

4.1.1 Change preview The preview of the selected design is available in three different views. Please observe the following: • Areas marked in pink are not visible in folded state or are located on the inside of the packaging. • Light blue areas mark the surface of the design. • All dimensions that can be changed are visible in view 2.

4.1.2 Opening the PDF design catalogue The design catalogue is an overview of all the designs from the library. ® ® A In Adobe Illustrator , select the > Zünd Design Center > Library. B In the library, click Catalogue. C Select a storage location and click OK.

A In Adobe Illustrator , select the Zünd Design Center > Library. B Select your design from the library. C Change the dimensions of the design. Switch to Change preview on page 15 in the preview window to view all the dimensions of the design that can be changed. D To confirm, click OK. Results ® ® The design is opened in Adobe Illustrator .

4.2 Illustrator 4.2.1 Layers
Wichtig: ® ® In Adobe Illustrator before starting the ZDC plug-ins activate the setting Remember layers when pasting. When you copy objects or paths from other documents, the original layer is created automatically and the object copied to this layer.
Each design already includes all the layers necessary to be able to import the file into the ZCC. Make sure that the correct layer is activated before making any changes.

4.2.2 Define surface area The base marker defines the area for the 3D preview. You can place the marker in any area in order to simulate another surface area. The marker is represented by a black rectangle.

4.2.3 Place design elements Using the layers Face graphics and Inside graphics you can simulate the design of your packaging that is true to life. Place colored surfaces, texts, logos, images etc. in this level.

4.3.2 Performing fold animation, settings On the Preview tab you can individually change the animation of the fold preview of the Crease and VCut levels for each path. You can define the folding sequence of the animation and enter the angle at which the surfaces are folded. If you do not change the values, all folds will be made simultaneously at a 90° angle. Settings options: • Rotation angle: angle at which the two bordering surfaces are folded together. • Starting time: this setting determines the start time of the animation for the selected path. • Animation time: duration of animation for the selected path.
