Continuous round = Crochet all followed, without closing the rounds (help yourself with a stitch marker to know where the next round begins)

Joined round = Go closing every rounds and climb to the next turn with a chain.

Worked in Rows = Crochet in a base of chains and turning the crochet at the end each row.

2. MATERIALS LIST 

Yarns : in each column, will be detailed the brands and their colors next to the approximate grams. (Remember that this is using the hook that we will indicate in tools and the yarn suggested in materials. In case of any changing, the grams and size of the amigurumis can change)

5. DIFFICULTY LEVEL

Candy is about 28 cm high (11 inches approx - horn included)

The level of the pattern is MEDIUM.

Mint is about 10.5 cm high (4.13 inches approx)

You must have previous knowledge of crochet and the stitches mentioned in the section of Abbreviations (page 1)

On pages 4, 5 and 6 you will find help with the techniques of: Changing Color - Back Loop Only Crochet (sc BLO) - Crab Stitch

Before starting, some TIPS ... 

For a good result, we advise you to use the size of hook indicated in tools and the wide yarn indicated in the materials. It's not necessary to use the same yarn brand, as long as the width matches. If you want to make the change to the hook you normally use and it's another number, consider changing the yarn width according to it. And remember ... with any change you make the amigurumi will also change.

Maybe, you don't know how to make the Cross Stitch Single Crochet. If you have not yet tried it, we encourage you to do, it's very nice for amigurumis. To make the Cross Stitch Single Crochet you must introduce the hook as usual and take the yarn by placing the hook on top of it, then introduce it back to your side and finish the single crochet as usual. And that's it ... your perfect Cross Stitch!

Try to tighten the stitches a little, not too much, but just enough to make sure there're no space among them that make the filling look. If you observe that you have very space among the stitches, you can try to change the number of hook to a smaller one and see if you find it better (keep in mind, as we have said before, that you can change the size of amigurumi)

Stuff the parts with patience as you crochet. It's always good that you adapt the filling by molding each part with your hands, in this way the filling will fit much better.

In the parts that you should crochet in rows you will find this term: 1 ch (to climb) ... this means that you must make that extra chain stitch to be able to crochet comfortably, but you should not count it as a stitch in the 1st row.

If you make the amigurumi for some kid, be careful with the security eyes and the eyelashes. In that case, we recommend replacing the security eyes by embroidering them and removing the eyelashes, it's much safer for them.

We hope these tips are useful, now you only have ... Start and Enjoy!!!

2

3

4

5

6 The last step of the last single crochet (of the color that you're using at that moment) you must finish it with the yarn of the new color (photo 1).

7

8

Make a BLO slip stitch (this means, instead of inserting your hook underneath the entire stitch, the hook enters the center of the stitch, and exits underneath the back loop ; photos 2 - 3). Once done, make a single crochet on the same base stitch but this time taking both loops (photos 4 - 5). Mark the single crochet as the first stitch of the round (photo 6), the slip stitch you must skip it and not count it neither at the beginning nor at the end of the round (photos 7 - 8). Use this technique of color change whenever you need to make a change of color when starting a new round (photo 9).

2 The last step of the last single crochet (of the color that you're using at that moment) you must finish it with the yarn of the new color (photo 1). Follow the other single crochet with the new color until making the next change again with the same technique (photos 2 4). Use this color change technique whenever you need to make one or several color changes in the same round.

When you making the sc BLO, you must inserting your hook underneath the entire stitch, the hook enters the center of the stitch, and exits underneath the back loop. You will see that making this stitch will form a line with relief, so you will know that you do it correctly. © 2019 / María Bernadette Pozzi . The round is worked as a single crochet but instead of introducing the hook in the next sc, it is introduced in the previous sc. Insert the hook, from front to back, in the next stitch to the right.(photo 1). Insert the hook in the penultimate stitch and pull out a loop forward. 2 stitches remain in the hook. Take a loop over it and with it and the 2 stitches that, you have work as if it were a normal single crochet (photos 2 - 3). Insert the hook in the next stitch (always backwards, from left to right) and repeat the previous steps (photos 4 - 5). Finish the round with a slip stitch and FO. (photo 6).

 EYELIDS AND EYELASHES WE START WITH THE EYELASHES For the eyelashes you have two options: Option A : Use a organza silk ribbon and create your own eyelashes as we'll indicate below (we've used this option on our Úrsula and Kiara dolls).

15mm (0.59 inches approx.)

1

- Prepare the organza ribbon needed for the eyelashes (details in the list of materials - photos 1 - 2)

25mm approx. (0.98 inches approx.)

2

Cut half and only use 1 of the parts Open with the fingers for simulate the hairs

- Once you have the ribbon ready, you'll cut it in half lengthwise (photo 3)

- You'll only need one of those halves. Choose one and move your fingers over it very carefully to simulate the hairs of the eyelash (photo 4)

3

4

- Once simulating lash hairs, fold it to the middle and cut in half to obtain two pieces, they'll be a eyelash for each eye (photos 5 - 6) Fold it to the middle and cut in half

Option B : Use false eyelashes for dolls (photo 12). Cut 2 eyelashes of about 12mm (0.47 inches) and guide yourself with the same pictures of option A for the assembly (we used this option for Candy). Leave them apart for a moment and start with the crochet eyelids.

You'll proceed to assemble them. Take a crochet eyelid and a eyelashe, glue the eyelashe with textile glue on the reverse side of the eyelid (photos 9 - 11) Repeat the same with the other eyelid. While they dry well you can start to make the head. In the following steps of the pattern you'll see in the photos the doll with the eyelashes of option A, but the final doll will have the eyelashes of option B.

 INTERNAL WIRE STRUCTURE Make the wire structure for the interior of the body. We've used plastic coated steel span wire, it is very firm and at the same time it's left to form. We recommend that you use a wire that is strong to hold Candy's head as it will weigh heavily with her hair. Of the 65.5 cm of wire, you must divide this into two parts: one of 48.5 cm for the body - head and another of 17 cm for the arms. - Take the wire for the body and bend the ends with the help of a needle nose pliers, this will prevent it from getting out of the crochet and causing damage (photo 22). Help yourself with a circular object with an approximate diameter of 17.5 cm to shape the part that will hold the head (guide with the measurements you'll see in photo 25 below, can use any object you have at home, we have used a glass of coffee, photos 23 - 24). - Take the wire for the arm and bend it carefully (photo 25 ; don't bend the ends with the needle nose pliers yet). If you see that the wire of your arms is short compared to the length of the arms, go testing and if necessary cut a longer wire. Leave the wire ready and start the body.

 ASSEMBLE (HEAD - BODY) - Begin to stuff the head by the edges, arranging well the filling all around and leaving the center free (photo 35). - With patience, place the top part of the body wire inside the head (photo 36). - Once inside, keep filling the head until you see that it remains stable to be able to continue the rounds that are still to be crocheted (photo 37). - Continue the rounds of the head following the table below (photo 38). Be careful with the eyes. Tip, while crocheting the rounds try to place the body on a table and let the head is suspended and held by the wire and your hands when crocheting, that way don't break the eyelashes. Go rotating the body and head at the same time as you crochet. - When you've all the rounds of the head, sew it to the body. you can hide the seam according to how you insert the needle. One trick is to do the following 3 steps and repeat them until you finish sewing: 1st insert the needle inside - 2nd insert the needle on the outside - 3rd insert the needle inside (photos 39 40). - Sew the cheeks to the head between the Rnds.20 / 21 next to the each side of the eyes (photo 41 - if you wish, you can sew the cheeks before sewing the head to the body).

You already have the base ready. Before starting the hair strips, we will explain you about them. In total there will be 2 sizes of different strips that you'll make on the base. We'll identify them in the following way: Large Strips and Small Strips. In this way, when we get to the steps of making the strips, you must do the corresponding according to the name indicated. You'll also have a sequence of photos that will help to follow each step. The hair is somewhat complicated with many changes of color, but you'll see that with patience can do it successfully =)

... Let's start the strips ...

46

48

Start at the base where you left it. On the Rnd.9. performs 28 large strips in total, interspersing colors (strips explanation on page 16). The order of colors is as follows: *C-D-F-I-H-G-B-E*

47

Change to the next color

Skip 1sc of the base

1

Repeat in that order the sequence of colors to complete the 28 strips.

49

Each time you complete each strip, make the sl st with which will join the strip to the base by skip 1sc base and with the next color that corresponds (photos 46 - 48). Already have the first round of full hair (photo 49). On the reverse side you'll see that have many short strands of color changes, for the moment let them, once you complete all the strips of hair will hide them.

On the Rnd.4. You'll make 12 Small Strips in total, interspersing colors (strips explanation on page 16). First, prepare the hair to locate the position of these strips. Place the hair as indicated in photo 50, guide yourself with the color changes of the base and use 2 markers to know where to start and where to end. Leave between them about 13 sc (including those placed on the markers). These strips you only have to work them taking the strands that protrude from the sc BLO.

 SEW HEAD AND HEADBAND Once you have the hair and the headband ready can sew them to the head. First you'll place the hair on the head. 1. Place it with the forehead part facing forward (we've indicated the forehead in photos 50/52). 2. Put the edge of the hair at a distance of 13 rnds. from the nose (on the rnd. 13 sew the edge) and at the same time try that the Small Strips are centered on the face of the doll (photo 62). 3. Separate in two the Large Strips that remain on the face. To your left, separate 5 Large Strips from color B and leave them without sewing. To your right, separate 5 Large Strips from the color E and leave them without sewing. Once separate them, place the hairline more to your left side (photo 62). 4. For your comfort, separate the Small Strips with a hair clip, these strips will not sew for now. 5. Finally, place the others 18 Large Strips to the head with the help of pins. You must count 10 hdc of the strips from the edge of the base down, only that part of each strip will be sewn (photo 63).

9. Adorable CANDY Sew the hair to the head. 6. Sew edge all around with the same color (photo 64). 7. Sew the Large Strips that are attached to the head or if you want you can glue them. To sew the strips you must use the color that corresponds to each, for this we recommend you cut a strand of about 30 cm. (11.81 inches) of each color you need. When you start to sew, leave the pin on the strip that sew and release the strip on your right to work better (photo 65). Start sewing, leave a bit of loose strand at the beginning and sew only about 10 hdc of the strip, that is, to where the pin is. Go sewing from the top down and go up so that it's properly sewed (photo 65). Once you have reached the top again, find the strand at the beginning of the sewing, knot both strands and hide them inside the head to lose with the help of the yarn needle (photo 66). Already have the first sewn strip (photo 67), continue in the same way with the others. May have to overlap a few strips over others, don't worry and accommodate as you're sewing. 8. Already sewn the strips attached to the head, now we're going to sew the strips on the sides. Start with the strips on your right side, of those 5 strips you'll only sew 4. Leave the last strip (counting from the front) and arrange the other 4 as seen in photo 68, place pins to hold them. Again, need to cut strands of the corresponding color, cut 15 cm (5.90 inches) of each strand and knot each strip with them. Not sew along, just knot where the pins are and then hide the strands inside the head (photos 69 - 70, to knot these 4 strips, start with the top strip and go down). Repeat the same on the other side.

9. Adorable CANDY Sew the headband to the hair. 9. Place the headband on the hair, the horn should be centered with the nose of the doll (photo 71). Once placed in its place, sew it all around the bottom edge and the sides of the headband (photos 72 - 73). 10. Retoma Resume the sewing of the hair to knot the Small Strips. These strips will cover the nape of the doll and only knot 10 of the 12. You must knot from the outside strips to the inside strips and always a strip on each side, that is taking one from the right and then taking one from the left , coinciding the same color. The first strips that you knot, will be the ones that are most outside. Place them on the edges of the headband, leave them somewhat loose and knot at least twice to cover the edges, hide the strands inside the head (photos 74 - 75). Continue knotting the other strips on the nape, also leave them somewhat loose, with some looseness so that they remain with volume and knot them over the beginning of the strips that are already sewn to the head (photo 76 - 77). Remember to hide the strands inside the head. Finally, leave free the two strips of the same color that are centered above everything (photo 78). 11. Once all is sewn, you can help mark the curls of the strips with the crochet hook as shown in photos 79 - 80.

(12)

15.

This round will be done in a row. Turn the crochet and make 1 ch to climb, then make only 6 sc.

Sew the legs. Only use the strand of one of them, the other hide it. The chosen strand must be placed on Rnd. 2 of the leg counting from the top, that side will be the inside of the 1st leg. To sew them, you must sew together by placing 1 on each side of the body, matching the Rnd. 2 of the leg with the Rnds. 4 and 5 of the body, counting from the bottom. Take the strand of the 1st leg and insert it with the needle inside the body (between Rnds.4 / 5) until crossing the body. There, pass the needle through the 2nd leg and cross only the internal part (that is, the part that will be remain attached to the body - photo 94). Goes through the body again (in Rnds.4 / 5) and reaches the 1st leg again (photo 95). In this way, movement is achieved and you can accommodate the unicorn in the position you want. FO. by the back side of the leg (photo 96).
