Caño crystals is a wonder in the world. The endemic algae that bloom in its waters give different shades to the bottom of the river, between red, yellow, green, blue and black. This can be detected in June and December in the first half of the year, the plants are in the breeding season. The tours through Caño Cristales include visits to various sectors of the river where specific geological formations are found specific for water lovers. In addition, there are swimming pools and wells where you can explore the bottom of the river with a simple snorkeling equipment and get to know in detail the algae that magically color your trip. The Amazon is always inhabited by hundreds of impressive animals that give rise to a habitat where they can find anteaters, various types of felines (such as tigers and pumas), more than 500 species of birds and miles of insects and reptiles. the Sierra de la Macarena and Caño Cristales keep their mysteries that are related to the Guayaberos. This small indigenous community still inhabits these lands and its oldest members have left traces of its existence through petroglyphs and cave paintings embodied in large river rocks. This place is preserved as one of the main sites of visit in Caño Cristales.

Mi lugar favorito para visitar en Colombia es caño cristales. Caño cristales es una maravilla en el mundo. Las algas endémicas que florecen en sus aguas le dan diferentes tonalidades al fondo del río, entre rojo, amarillo, verde, azul y negro. Esto se puede apreciar únicamente entre junio y diciembre ya que la primera mitad del año las plantas se encuentran en época reproductiva. Los recorridos por Caño Cristales incluyen visitas a varios sectores del río donde las formaciones geológicas generan atractivos ideales para los amantes del agua. Además, hay piscinas y pozos donde se puede explorar el fondo del río con un equipo de snorkell sencillo y conocer al detalle las algas que mágicamente colorean su viaje. La Amazonía siempre está habitada por cientos de animales impresionantes que dando lugar a un hábitat donde puede encontrar osos hormigueros, varios tipos de felinos (como tigres y pumas), más de 500 especies de aves y miles de insectos y reptiles.

Caño Cristales, or “the river of five colors,” is located in the Serranía de la Macarena National Park. This unique and wonderfully colorful phenomenon is a picturesque sight located within a remote part of the country. The 62-mile (100-kilometer) stretch of river has beautiful waterfalls and natural pools.

Caño Cristales is located in the Serrania de la Macarena National Park, which is located in the Meta department of Colombia. In addition, Caño Cristales is a tributary of the Guayabero River. Serranía de la Macarena is a protected national park in Colombia that covers 2,500 square miles (6,200 square kilometers). The Serranía de la Macarena park is located where three large ecosystems in Colombia meet, each of them with a high diversity

of flora and fauna: the Amazon rainforest, the Andes mountain range and the savannah plains of the East Llanos. Serranía de La Macarena is considered one of the most biodiverse areas of Colombia. It reportedly is home to over 500 species of birds, 100 species of reptiles, over 2,000 species of plants and over 1,200 species of insects. For about six months of the year, Caño Cristales looks like any other river. But from about June to early December the river comes alive with red, green, yellow, blue and black hues. Visiting Caño Cristales is more of an adventure trip, as it’s not so easily accessible. You need to get there by a combination of air, boat, 4×4 vehicle and some hiking. But in my experience, it’s an unforgettable trip as the river is breathtakingly beautiful.

Dear friend Heimy: On vacation visit the island of San Andres. I was on the island for 4 days. It was wonderful and fun. The island is a paradise! I spent the first two-days on the beach, eating fresh fish and relaxing. The sea is beautiful and known for its 7 different shades of blue.The island offers a unique culture since there live a mixture of Colombians, Jamaicans and Nicaraguans. I can recommend Haynes Cay View as a place to stay. The diving in San Andres is world famous, the waters are crystal clear and the coral is very well preserved. I went to the diving points Los Recuerdos and La Rocosa, both very different from each other but equally interesting. In La Rocosa there was a cave with an opening at the top to let in the light that was really neat! San Andres has a variety of wildlife to meet for yourself. Iguanas are everywhere, especially on Johnny Cay Island! Some of them are very friendly and some locals even keep them as pets! The island is a paradise! I recommend you go to rest.
