CARLOS NOLASCO (21541190) THE STORY OF AN HOUR ACTIVITY

1. Why does Mrs. Mallard really die? R// She die because she was excited to see her husband alive, at that moment she had no hopes to see him again and when he go through the door is like coming back to life, but unfortunately for her that joy killed her. 2. How do you think Mr. Mallard would feel if he knew what his wife really felt? R// He would feel worried because he knows her heart condition and he would know that that kind of new will get her worst, he can also feel guilty because if something happens to her he will the reason of it. 3. Do you believe Chopin is trying to make some grand assertion about fate or free will with the ending of the story? If so, what is it? R// Yes, I think Chopin is trying to show that Louise was feeling happy because for the first time in her life she feet free, although she loves her husband the idea of freedom just made her feel excited. 4. Do you feel pity for any of the characters? Which ones, and why? R// I feel pity for Mrs. Mallard because in her reaction I can interpret some nonconformity with her marriage, although it seem that she loves her husband I feel stronger the feeling of happiness with the new of the death. It is like if she was waiting for that moment to arrive to feel free and do what she want without having someone to control her. 5. Can a person really die of shock? Of happiness? Of grief? R// Yes, a person can really die for those reasons, mostly if they have heart trouble like Mr. Mallard. You can die of grief because you can get deanimated and that can’t take you serious health problems and you can die of happiness because some feeling caused by extreme surprises can affect your heart. 6. If you were going to write some fan fiction inspired by "The Story of an Hour," how would you do it? Which characters would you explore? How would you imagine the personalities of Richards, Josephine, and Mr. Mallard? What would be the back-story behind Mr. and Mrs. Mallard's marriage? R//I would add a little more mystery to the story, not going directly to the disaster but creating confusion in the characters. I would explore Mr. Mallard. I would imagine Richard like someone who create tension in the story. Josephine like someone patient and positive that gives hope to Mrs. Mallard and finally Mr.

Mallard like someone cold, taking everything with calm and not getting alarmed by the inconvenient. The background I would use could be that their marriage wasn´t a good relationship, although they love each other the were together by commitment and no one would be really sentimentally affected if something happened the other, I would use Mrs. Mallard as someone materialistic that is more interested in things that in love.
