Formulating Guidelines Recommended Use Level 0.5-1.00% for styling gels
Recommended pH 6.00-7.00 for optimal viscosity.
Neutralization Carbopol CLEAR Polymer must be neutralized to achieve maximum viscosity. Common neutralizers used can be 2-Amino-2-methyl-1-propanol, Triethanolamine (TEA), Sodium Hydroxide, Potassium Hydroxide, Triethylamine, Arginine, Ammonia, PEG15 Cocamine. Refer to TDS 237 for further information on neutralizers.
Chemistry Carbopol® CLEAR polymer is a homopolymer of acrylic acid with a chemical structure depicted below:
Recommended Order of Addition At room temperature, in a suitable vessel under continued agitation, the following order of addition is suggested: 1. Sprinkle Carbopol CLEAR polymer into water under moderate agitation. 2. Mix until the polymer swells. 3. Neutralize the batch to pH 6.0-7.0 to increase viscosity. 4. Add other formulation ingredients.
Regulatory Status Due to the unique design of the polymer, Carbopol CLEAR polymer can be dispersed very fast in contrast to traditional carbomer.
Carbopol CLEAR polymer is compliant with most chemical inventories. Additional regulatory information is available on the Safety Data Sheet.
