SPIRITUAL BATHS AND CLEANSINGS Some Staple Ingredients for Cleansings As with all things in traditional Hoodoo and conjure, we want to look at what we have readily available in our homes that will work in a pinch. After there is an understanding of the various possibilities, then you can expand to include herbs, roots or plants that you wild craft yourself, or purchase (though we strongly recommend gathering your own herbs initially) and oils, cascarilla (which can be easily prepared from saved egg shells), and other special ingredients.
Look in your kitchen cabinet and see what you have on hand. Do you have salt? Vinegar? Cinnamon? Sugar? What about in your refrigerator? Do you have milk and eggs? Good! All of these are ingredients can be used for basic baths and cleansings and won’t cost you anything to prepare.
A general rule of thumb is to use 3 ingredients for your baths and floor washes. There are definitely times when more or less ingredients are used but 3 ingredient baths are extremely common in Hoodoo. Following is a list of some common household ingredients and a variety of herbs that can be used in spiritual baths and their magical and spiritual associations (see table 1). It is important to understand what their associations are so that you can substitute one thing for the other in a pinch.
