5. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Nokia Hardware Services Repair Centers receive number of Flexi Radio Modules from which damaged RF output connectors are observed. A potential cause of damage to the RF output connector is incautious working practice during module cabling. In order to avoid unnecessary damage to Flexi radio modules and consequential module returns, this Technical Support Note describes instructions for cautious working practices for module cabling.

6. DETAILED DESCRIPTION RF output connectors are located in the front panel of the Flexi Radio Module between and next to the antenna connectors. RF output connectors are marked with label RxO which is followed by a number. The connector type is QMA.

Figure 1: Front panel view of Flexi Radio Module (FXCB and FXFC).

When tightening or loosening antenna connectors using a torque wrench, RF output connectors may be damaged if insufficient care is taken.

Figure 2: Damaged (left) and intact (right) RF output connector.

This document provides instructions for module cabling in order to avoid damages to the QMA, RF output connectors.

7. INSTRUCTIONS If RF output cables are connected when antenna cable connectors are being tightened or loosened with a torque wrench, the torque wrench head will likely interfere with the connector of the RF output cable. As a consequence, the QMA RF output connector in the Flexi Radio Module front panel will be damaged.

Figure 3: Torque wrench head interferes with the RF output cable connector.

Whenever a torque wrench is applied to the Flexi Radio Module antenna connectors, it must be ensured first that the surrounding RF output cables are not in place.

During installation the cabling must be done in the following order: 1. Tighten 7/16 antenna jumper connector to torque 2. Connect QMA RF output cables During replacement the cable removal must be done in the following order: 1. Remove QMA RF output cables 2. Loosen and remove 7/16 antenna jumpers

Figure 4: Torque wrench applied when the RF output cable is not in place.

Even though the RF output cables are removed, particular attention must be paid when applying a torque wrench in close proximity to the RF output connectors.
