The Ordo Luciferi Self Initiation into the Grade of Incipio I°

This document was produced by Jeremy Crow in 2010 for the purpose of providing a Rite for those wishing to ritualistically formalize their resonance with the philosophy of The Ordo Luciferi and their intention to travel the path represented by its graded system. There are no applications to fill out, no membership fees or dues to pay and no obligation to participate in any type of group activity. The Ordo Luciferi, or “Luciferian Order” is an organization, that is to say an idea. It is an idea which embraces and encourages personal freedom and self-determination. As such, it is up to the individual alone to determine if they resonate with the idea of The Ordo Luciferi. Beyond this first level of formal association with the Luciferian Order an individual member can receive formal recognition in the higher grades by the current members of the community behind the organization. Recognition by others is not necessary for the individual path but many find it useful. Ritual Formula 0 – Prima Materia – EARTH 1 – Fermentation into a CHAOS of Elements 2 – Separation and Purification of WATER/SALT through Calcination 3 – Separation and Purification of FIRE/SULPHUR through Calcination 4 – Separation and Purification of AIR/MERCURY through Distillation 5 – Cohobation of Purified Elements and setting aside of TERRA DAMNATA 6 – Manifestation of QUINTESSENCE 7 – Return to normal waking consciousness and integration into daily life

Step 1 Preparation

The Self

The Working Space and The Altar

Ritual Outline 0 – The occultist must prepare themselves and the working space as appropriate on a mundane level. Banishing rituals are not needed or recommended for this stage. Personal preparations should include the washing of the hands and face and the putting on of clean clothes or ritual garb. Preparation of the working space should include sweeping the floor, removing any garbage or trash from the room and erecting an altar. The altar should be in either the centre of the room or against the North wall and on it shall be placed three candles (unlit), a length of ribbon or string, the representation of a rooster (with a veil covering it), a mirror (with a veil covering it), an emblem of mortality such as a skull (with a veil covering it), incense (unlit) and a bowl of salt water.

Personalization

These are the minimum requirements, but personal elaborations or modifications are encouraged.

Opening the Rite

Once preparations are complete, stand in front of your altar facing North and then make a single circumambulation around your working space, moving by the square [don’t cut your corners.] This should be done with the movement of the Sun [clockwise in the Northern Hemisphere, counter-clockwise in the Southern.] Once this has been completed say, sing or vibrate the word TERRA.

Terra is a Latin word meaning Earth

Declaring the Intention of the Rite

Knock four times with your left hand [or stamp your left foot, ring a bell, etc...] and then declare yourself ready to place yourself in communion with the essence or “egregore” of The Ordo Luciferi by undergoing the ordeals of initiation for the ultimate purpose of perfecting the Self and thereby reaching the stage of attainment described by the grade of Illuminatus VI°.

Step 2 Putrifaction or Fermentation

1 – Remove the veil covering your emblem of mortality. Invoke the forces of death and decay to dissolve the bonds between the elements within you.

Establish a Chaos of the three principal elements

Make one complete circumambulation against the motion of the sun around your working space, moving by the circle. Once this is complete say, sing or vibrate the word CHAO.

Step 3 Declaration of Water/Salt

2 – Light one candle which will represent the Element of WATER or alchemical SALT.

Project this aspect of self onto the ritual emblem

Raise the bowl of salt water and declare it to be a symbol of your own Form while arousing feelings of Lust within yourself.

Purification of Water/Salt

Internalize purified Water/Salt Aqua is a Latin word meaning Water

Hold the bowl somewhere above the lit candle and state that you are burning off the impurities. Visualize this process as black smoke flying off the salt water and going into the emblem of mortality. Cover the emblem again with the veil. Raise the bowl again and visualize it glowing with brilliant light. Place the bowl in front of your belly and feel the light from the bowl enter your body at this point. Say, sing or vibrate the word AQUA.

Step 4 Declaration of Fire/Sulphur Project this aspect of self onto the ritual emblem

3 – Light the second candle, which will represent the Element of FIRE or alchemical SULPHUR. Unveil the Rooster and the emblem of mortality. Raise the rooster and declare it to be a symbol of your own unique personality and the seed of your own divinity while calling up feelings of Love within yourself.

Purification of Fire/Sulphur

Hold the rooster somewhere above the appropriate lit candle and state that you are burning off the impurities. Visualize this process as black smoke flying off the rooster and going into the emblem of mortality. Cover the emblem again with its original veil as well as the veil that was on the rooster.

Internalize purified Fire/Sulphur

Raise the rooster again and visualize it glowing with brilliant light. Place the rooster in front of your chest and feel the light from the rooster enter your body at this point.

Ignis is a Latin word meaning Fire

Say, sing or vibrate the word IGNIS.

Step 5 Declaration of Air/Mercury

4 - Light the final candle, which will represent the Element of AIR or alchemical MERCURY.

Project this aspect of self onto the ritual emblem

Light the incense and unveil the emblem of mortality. Raise the incense and declare it to be a symbol of your life force and consciousness while calling up feelings of Devotion to the principles of Luciferianism.

Purification of Air/Mercury

Hold the incense somewhere above the appropriate lit candle and state that the impurities are too heavy to rise with the pure fragrance. Visualize this process as black sludge draining off the burning incense and going into the emblem of mortality. Cover the emblem again with the veil.

Internalize the purified Air/Mercury

Raise the incense again and visualize it glowing with brilliant light. Place the incense in front of your face and feel the light from the incense enter your body at this point.

Aer is a Latin word meaning Air

Say or vibrate the word AER.

Step 6 Cohobation or integration of three principal elements in harmony

5 – Place all three candles as close together as they will go.

Unity of purified elements creates the Fifth Element

Tie the three lit candles together using the ribbon or string. Trace a pentagram over these candles, one point downwards and say, sing or vibrate the word QUINTESSENCE.

Make five circumambulations around your working space with the motion of the Sun and moving by the circle.

Step 7 Influence of Quintessence fills the initiate’s universe

6 – Visualize a brilliant ball of golden light around the bundle of candles. Imagine this ball of light expanding to include the entire altar, your body and the working space as a whole.

Recognize your own free will as the ultimate authority in your life

Unveil the mirror and gaze deeply into your own eyes. Recognize the divinity or “black flame” within and vow to honour and nurture it. Also set your intention to recognize the black flame within others when you encounter it and to avoid any conscious act that is in opposition to it.

Shed self imposed limitations

Place this final veil on top of the already veiled emblem of mortality.

Step 8 Terra Damnata is a Latin phrase meaning “Damned Earth”

7 – Take a peek at the emblem of mortality without removing the three veils. Whisper the words TERRA DAMNATA while setting the intention to recognize falsehood when you encounter it in the world and within yourself. Let the veils completely cover the emblem of mortality again.

Begins the closing of the Rite Incipio is a Latin word meaning “I Begin”

Make one circumambulation around your working space against the motion of the Sun, moving by the square. Declare the rite to be a success and declare yourself to be an initiate of the Incipio I° grade of The Ordo Luciferi and for the powers of the universe both seen and unseen to recognize you as such with the full privileges that membership grants you.

Return to regular waking consciousness

Knock [or stomp or ring a bell] five times, touch your forehead, your chest and your belly and then allow all your visualizations to fade from consciousness.

If required

Dismantle the temple setup.

This grounds the energy raised and is symbolic of “digesting” the ritual intent

Consume drink and food immediately at the conclusion of the Rite. If you desire, you can have this food and drink prepared beforehand and it place it somewhere within the working space for the entire rite to indirectly invest the food with the intention of the ceremony.
