CALCULATION BASIS: The pressure loss in pipe flow is calculated using Darcy-Weisbach equation (equation 1)

Equation 1: This equation is valid for both laminar and turbulent flow regimes of any fluid with fully developed and incompressible flow. It can be used for gas services as long as there is only negligible change in gas density across the pipe length. The formula for calculating Darcy friction factor is different for laminar (equation 2) and turbulent flow (equation 3 - Haaland equation). Laminar flow meaning Reynolds number less than 2000.

Equation 2: Equation 3: The Haaland equation is used to solve directly for the Darcy–Weisbach friction factor f D for a full-flowing circular pipe. It is an approximation of the implicit Colebrook–White equation, but the discrepancy from experimental data is well within the accuracy of the data.
