Introduction This Lab Guide includes lab activities. We recommend that you attempt to perform the learning activities in this guide using the instructions provided in the Activities section. If you would like additional details, ask your instructor for assistance. Also note that the screenshots you see in this lab guide are based on the software and firmware versions available when these course materials were created. Please be aware that the screens you see when you perform the lab may differ if a new version has been installed on the lab hardware. Where such differences exist, please focus on the written instructions, rather than the printed screenshots. If you do not clearly understand the instructions, ask your instructor for assistance.

Activity 1. Technical Documentation and System Access Overview Objectives

Upon completion of the lab project, you will be able to:   

Locate and access the Maintenance Manual Locate and use the Engineering Change Notice (ECN) document for a microcode version Use the ECN to identify the correct version of the Maintenance Manual

Summary of Activity

The activities in this lab are intended to allow you to demonstrate the skills to open and access a VSPG 200-800. In the additional activities, you will demonstrate the ability to locate and copy the ECN and the Maintenance Manual from the microcode CD. You will demonstrate how to use the information in the ECN and on the cover page of the Maintenance Manual to verify that the correct version of the manual that corresponds to the specific microcode version.

Activity Part 1 – Locate and Copy the ECN and Maintenance Manual Documents Obtain the microcode CD (or .iso) kit from your instructor. Locate the CD (or .iso) labeled DW800 Documents and Programs. Copy the ECN folder and the Manuals folder to the CE laptop (student) PC.

Activity Part 2 – Verify the Maintenance Manual Version for the Microcode Version 1. 2. 3. 4.

Open the ECN document. Navigate to the section where the Maintenance Manual release version is identified. Open the 00cover.pdf document of the Maintenance Manual. Verify that the release number on the Maintenance Manual cover page is the same as the version identified in the ECN.

Activity 3. SVP Access Overview Objectives

Upon completion of the lab project, you will be able to: 

Access the Service Processor (SVP) on an enterprise array to use the Web Console and SVP software.

Summary of Activity

You will demonstrate how to connect to the Service Processor (SVP).

Activity – Part 1 1. Connect the Laptop to the console LAN Port of SVP. 2. Find SVP internal IP address from the documentation or ask the instructor. Hint: The IP address must look like 126.XXX.XXX.15 (XXX.XXX depends on the serial number of array). 3. If the laptop is connected to the public network of the lab environment, use the public IP address of the SVP to connect. 4. On the laptop, open the remote desktop session (If not hooked in, use the Windows start menu and execute MSTSC in the Run program.) 5. Type in the SVP IP address and connect. 6. Enter the user name and password. • HUSVM or VSP: User = maintenance; password: raid-mainte • VSP G1000: User = maintenance; password: raid-maintenance. Enter the maintenance password if requested to: (etniam-diar). Either the Web Console or the SVP software should be visible. 7. Switch from the Web Console to the SVP software and vice versa by selecting Exit. 8. In the Web Console, select Logical Device and look at the various tabs for LDEVS mapped or unmapped, DP or Basic. 9. Select Host Groups/Ports and examine Port settings and see if there are any Host Groups configured. 10. In SVP, switch from View mode to Modify mode and try to exit. Were you able to exit? ____________

Activity 4. Connect to VSP G200-800 Overview

The procedures for maintaining VSP G200-800 are very different from existing enterprise arrays (VSP/VSPG1000/HUSVM). A new instance of accessing the machine is introduced called Maintenance PC (MPC). Instead of connecting to SVP with remote desktop as in Lab 2, software must be installed on the user’s laptop.

Objectives

Upon completion of the lab project, you will be able to:   

Connect MPC to VSP G200-800 Controller Start MPC software Connect to DKC (Disk Controller)

Summary of Activity

You will connect the MPC to the VSP G200-800 controller and navigate to different GUIs for maintenance and array setup.

Activity – Part 1

1. Login to the laptop provided in the lab environment. 2. Double-click the Storage Device List shortcut on the desktop. 3. Click on the registered storage array. In the Maintenance PC window, wait for green bullets to appear that indicate that all services are available. 4. Enter login Information: • User = maintenance • Password =raid-maintenance 5. Click Login. The Web Console starts. In the Web Console you can configure storage systems, such as creating LDEVS or mapping them to ports. (See activities presented later in this lab guide.)

Activity – Part 2 1. In the Web Console menu, select Maintenance Utility. The GUM (Gateway Unified Management) window appears. 2. Examine the various maintenance activities provided and write the configuration in the table:

Activity – Part 3 1. On the Web Console, select Maintenance in the top menu. The MPC will appear. Activity on the MPC is restricted to HDS employees or partners. The MPC is not accessible for customers who invoke GUM from Hitachi Command Suite for user maintenance. (See the previous lab activity. 2. Explore the different screens.

Activity 5. Registering Array in HCS/HID Overview Objectives

Upon completion of the lab project, you will be able to:    

Login to Hitachi Command Suite Register an enterprise array in HCS Login to Hitachi Infrastructure Director Register an enterprise array in HID

Summary of Activity

You will demonstrate the ability to implement a VSP in Hitachi Command Suite and Hitachi Infrastructure Director.

Activity – Part 1 1. Log into HCS. 2. Point the web browser to IP address HCS Server. http://:22015/DeviceManager/ 3. Login with built in credentials. User: system Password: manager Or, ask the instructor for authentication information. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10.

Navigate to Resources > Storage Systems or Administration > Storage Systems. Click Add Storage System. Select from the drop down list, the appropriate model you are about to register. Enter the SVP public IP address and login information. Click OK. Verify that the new array is successfully registered in HCS. In Resources > Storage Systems, right click the new system and select Other Function. GUM (Gateway User Maintenance) for customer maintenance activities appears.

Activity 6. Create LU Path Overview Objectives

Upon completion of the lab project, you will be able to: 

Demonstrate how to create a LU path to a server

Summary of Activity

You will create a host group on a physical port, add the server WWPN to it and adjust the host mode according to the connected servers’ operating system. You will add an LDEV and map as a LUN to the server. On the server, the new disk will be shown.

Activity – Part 1 Open the Web Console on SVP (VSP/VSPG1000/HUSVM) or Block Element Manager on VSP G200 – 800. Record information on how many HBAs are connected to which ports at the array: Storage Port:

1. Open the Host Group/Port section. 2. Click Create Host Group. During the wizard, there is a choice to select Finish or Next. We will go through the whole process. When the host groups get created, the process can be stopped after the first step. 3. Enter in a meaningful name for the host group. Hint: The server name is a good choice. 4. Add the array port and server WWPN according to the table above. 5. Click Add in the middle to finish. If properly connected, the correct WWPN should show up in the list. 6. 7. 8. 9.

If a second connection is present, create a second host group (different port and different WWPN). Click Next. Choose a LDEV to be shown to the server by selecting one and click Add. Click Next.

6. Create LU Path Activity – Part 1

Activity

You have the choice of host groups the LDEV gets added. On the right, the created ones are predefined. The next screen shows the result of the entire process. 10. On the last screen, click Apply to invoke the changes. 11. Fill out the table with the characteristics: Server Name:
