BIENVENIDOS AL LACQUA 2018 Es un gran honor darle la bienvenida a Bogotá, sede de la conferencia anual 2018 del Capítulo Latinoamericano y del Caribe de la Sociedad Mundial de Acuicultura. El clima de montaña, la gente amable y la increíble historia que encontramos en esta hermosa ciudad sin duda nos ayudarán a tener una reunión fructífera. Hemos roto la barrera de los 400 resúmenes y aún hay más. Una gran cantidad de resúmenes no solo presagia una conferencia exitosa, sino que también es la demostración de instituciones de investigación sólidas dentro de los países de LACC, construyendo conocimiento y formando profesionales para desarrollar la acuicultura. LACQUA 2018 tiene entre sus intereses promover la paz en nuestro mundo. La paz es la suma de varios aspectos de nuestra vida diaria, pero solo se puede lograr cuando tenemos suficiente comida en nuestra mesa. La acuicultura está por todas partes para traer pescados y mariscos saludables a todos nosotros. Ya sea que se produzca en el océano, estanques o en agua dulce, los mariscos y pescados son muy apreciados por su contenido nutricional, pero también por el placer de comer platos tan sabrosos. Me gustaría terminar esta nota de bienvenida, agradeciéndoles a todos los que asisten a la conferencia y contribuyen con presentaciones de alta calidad, así mismo a expositores de la feria comercial. También deseo agradecer a los presidentes de Programa y Sesión por organizar un excelente programa, que estoy seguro será apreciado por todos los asistentes. Finalmente, LACQUA 2018 no hubiera sido posible sin nuestros patrocinadores y el apoyo de instituciones gubernamentales y no gubernamentales colombianas. 5 TISSUE- SPECIFIC OXIDATIVE STRESS RESPONSE ECTOPARASITIC INFESTATIONS IN “O. niloticus”

Many researchers extensively investigated the causative agent rather than studying its impact. How fish react to overcome such stressors especially parasitic infestation is now a new area of interest. In the present study, O. niloticus used as an economical fish model to investigate their tissue response to different parasitic infestation through oxidative stress biomarkers whether fish tissue react similarly or specifically with different parasitic infestations. The results of the present study revealed that parasitic infestation was associated with a specific change in anti-oxidant status through an elevation in GST activity in liver infected with Myxobolus niloticus (fig.1 A) and in liver and kidney with Trichodina compacta infection (fig.1 B). While in Livoneca redmanii infestation, GST activity markedly decreased in all infested organs (fig. 1 C). SOD activity was significantly increased in liver and gills of both M. niloticus and T. compacta infection compared with control group (P≤0.05), while hepatic SOD showed a significant increase with L. redmanii infection (data not shown). CAT did not show any differences in all infected tissues except a marked reduction in all organs with T. compacta infection. Lipid peroxidation significantly increased in all infested organs as evidenced by elevated MDA levels in all studied fish organs with different parasitic infestation (figure 1 D, E and F). Further work still needed to investigate if these tissue specific responses similar among teleost against similar ectoparasites or it is species specific as well.

6 PRELIMINARY RESULTS ABOUT INDUCED SPAWNING WITH SALMON GnRH ANALOGUE (sGnRHa) OF Astyanax altiparanae: REPRODUCTIVE PERFOMANCE AND PLASMA LEVELS OF 17,20β-P AND PGF2α Mariana R. Abreu*, Laíza M. J. Batlouni *Center of Aquaculture of Sao Paulo State University - Caunesp, Jaboticabal, SP, Brazil Email: [email protected] This study was supported by the grant No. 2016/25988-7 of the FAPESP For South American tropical fishes the physiological effects of synthetic hormones used to induce spawning remain poorly understood. In this study, we evaluated weather sGnRHa could provoke Astyanax altiparanae spawning associated with 17α,20β-dihydroxy-4-pregnen-3-one (17,20β-P) and prostaglandin F2α (PGF2α) release. For this, three doses of sGnRHa (Gn) (10, 100 and 1000 µg kg-1), a saline control group (0.9% NaCl) and a positive control group (6 mg of CPE kg-1) (CPE) were applied (four replicates containing five females and ten males in each). All females received two intraperitoneal injections (10%; and 90% after 12 h), and males received a single dose of 3 mg of CPE kg-1. Baseline blood samples from six females were collected (Initial) and at the time of ovulation one unspawned and one spawned female from each replicate were randomly selected to measure plasma levels of 17,20β-P and PGF2α by ELISA. Ovaries were also collected to score the percentage of oocytes undergoing germinal vesicle break down (GVBD) and post ovulatory follicles (POF). Reproductive performance was evaluated by spawning rate and relative fecundity. Spearman’s test was used for nonparametric correlation, using all females regardless of the treatment. Data of reproductive performance and plasma 17,20β-P and PGF2α levels were analyzed by one-way ANOVA followed by the adjust T test or by the Kruskal-Wallis test, depending on normality and variances homogeneity, at the p≤0.05 level. Ovulation was seen in all groups, including the saline control. Relative fecundity and spawning rate were higher and similar in CPE and 1000Gn, but the values of the latter were similar to other groups (p
