ABOUTTHEAUTHOR guitar teacherswere John Kiefer developedan interest in the guitar at a young age. Among his classical Mr. Kiefer is Howard wallach at San Jactinto college and william Gangel at SouthwestTexas StateUniversity. University of Houston a graduateof the Guitar Institute of Technology in Los Angeles, California, as well as the with Robert Albury, where he received a Bachelor's degreein music composition. He has studied composition ochoa at the Reynaldo George Burt at Rice University, and he is currently studying with Michael Horvit and is the authorof a series University of Houstonwherehe is working on a Master' s degreein music composition.John Classical Music of electric guitar transcriptionsand companionCDs publishedby Mel Bay Publicationsincluding Guitar.His guitar compositionsinclude numerousworks for for Electric Guitar, andChristmasMusi-cfor Electric e xt e /forflute,oboe,bassclarinet,percussion,electricguitar classicalandelectricguitarinvarioussettings.Hiss at Brown and cello was selectedas the winner of the first annual Brown New Music composition competition Universityinprovidence,Rhodelslandwhereitwasperformedinthespringof200l'Hexenbrauforelectic the composeras guitar and orchestrawas premieredin October of 2001 by the Baytown Symphony Orchestrawith soloist. Unlike many Bach editions for guitar, these transcriptions are meant to be performed using a pick. Even I though a few of the pieeegmay be played on a standardguitar, the others require an electric guitar or a guitar with I a cutaway. The highest note used is the D on the 22nd fret of the first string. All pieces ire in their original keys. I Octaveshave been occasionally raised or lowered to suit the range of the guitar, I I One of the techniquesemployedin this collection is hybrid picking. Hybrid picking isa right handtechnique I the use of thepick (held by the thumb -pland the index finger -i-) with the remaining right hand fingers combining J I simultaneously.The indications are m - 2nd finger, a - 3rd finger, and c- 4th finger. All slurs (hammer-onsand I pull-offs) areindicatedon the tablatureby an arcbetweentwo or more numbers.Glissandos(slides)arenotatedwith J a diagonal line.

This collection consists of music written for flute (Badinerie), violin (Preludio and Gigue) and organ I j {Torroto and Fugue in D minar, Fantasia in G, and Praeludium in A minor).
