Walk this way

Repeat the same process with verbs to walk quickly, softly and angrily. You may need to use a thesaurus to introduce the children to a wider vocabulary.

The children may think of the following:

walk slowly

walk quickly

walk softly

walk angrily

plod shuffle trudge slog traipse

scamper hurry dart dash scurry

tip-toe creep sneak sidle patter

stomp stamp clump march

Activity ●

Ask the first child to take the top card off the pile and then look at the words in the list under the same heading. Ask him to choose a word and keep it in his head.

Ask the child to then walk around in the manner of the word he has chosen.

Ask the other children: How is (name) walking? Look at the words in the list we have made under the heading (of how he is walking). Which word do you think best describes how (name) is walking?

Once the children have found the verb the player is thinking of, cross it off the list.

Repeat, giving each child a turn, or until all the cards have been used.
