The Past Simple El tiempo pasado simple en inglés es cuando algo o alguna persona hizo algo en pasado. Ejemplos : Yo comí fideos Felipe estudio Matemáticas, etc Para decir o expresar esto en inglés se utilizan los verbos en pasado. Estos verbos se utilizan en pasado solamente cuando son oraciones afirmativas. En inglés existen 2 tipos de verbos en pasado : 1.- Los verbos regulares : son todos los verbos que terminan con las letras ed . Ejemplos : - work : trabajar worked : - study . estudiar studied - kiss : besar kissed VERBOS EN INFINITIVO VERBOS EN PASADO IMPORTANTE : Generalmente cuando un verbo en infinitivo termina con las letra y, esta se cambia a i antes de agregar las letras ed. My mom worked all the day. Felipe studied 2 hours She kissed him 2.- Los verbos irregulares son todos aquellos verbos que NO siguen la regla de los verbos regulares ; es decir debemos aprenderlos o consultar en la tabla de los verbos regulares en diccionarios inglés-español o un listado aparte. Algunos de ellos son por ejemplo : see run buy be

: ver : correr : comprar : ser, estar

No sean singular 3° persona)

sleep . dormir slept IMPORTANTE : No olvidar que nunca se usan los verbos en pasado cuando es en Negación o en Interrogativo o Preguntas.

¿Qué pasa cuando es negación en pasado? O en la forma Negativa? En este caso debemos utilizar una palabra llamada auxiliar que es did. Esta palabra did va acompañada siempre de not o puede escribirse n’t y después el verbo en infinitivo (walk ; caminar, study : estudiar, play : jugar, etc)(NO en pasado) Aquí no se toma en cuenta si el verbo es regular o irregular. Eso no sirve en la forma negativa. Ejemplos Felipe did not study yesterday (Felipe no estudio ayer)

My mom didn’t work on Sunday. (Mi mamá no trabajó el Domingo)

En la forma interrogativa ocurre lo mismo, es decir NO utilizamos ningún pasado de los verbos sino el auxiliar did y éste va siempre antes del sujeto y se agrega obviamente solamente al final el signo de pregunta. Ejemplos : Did Felipe study yesterday? SUJETO “Felipe” (¿Felipe estudió ayer?) Did my mom work on Sunday? (¿Mi mamá trabajó el Domingo?) What did you do this morning? (¿Qué tu hiciste esta mañana?)

Where did Martin and Rama study last year? SUJETO “Martín and Rama” (¿Dónde Martin y Rama estudiaron el año pasado?) IMPORTANTE : Existen excepciones a todo lo que se ha dicho y es el verbo BE (ser, estar). El pasado de este verbo es was y were. Este verbo no utiliza en pasado forma negativa o forma interrogativa o preguntas el auxiliar did. Sus pasados was y were se usan en forma negativa y preguntas. Was : fué, estuvo, estaba Were : fueron, estuvieron, estaban

Veamos estos ejemplos con was : FORMA AFIRMATIVA - Felipe was at home yesterday - (Felipe estuvo en casa ayer) - Felipe was the best student last year. - (Felipe fue el mejor alumno el año pasado) - Felipe and his mom were at home yesterday. -

(Felipe y sus mamá estaban en casa ayer)

FORMA NEGATIVA : Solamente se agrega al verbo (was, o were) la palabra NOT Además se puede abreviar la forma negativa was not quedando wasn’t Felipe was not at home yesteday. /Felipe no estuvo en casa ayer)

Juan wasn’t the best student in the class. (Juan no fue el mejor alumno del curso)

Martin , Rama and FABER were not in class this morning. (Martín, Rama y FABER no estuvieron en clases esta mañana)

FORMA INTERROGATIVA O PREGUNTAS (EN PASADO CON “WAS” Y “WERE” Solamente se ubica el verbo o las formas was y were delante del sujeto además del signo de pregunta al final. Ejemplos : Was Felipe the best student last year? (¿Fue Felipe el mejor alumno el año pasado?)

Was Felipe in the house yesterdat? (¿Estuvo Felipe en la casa ayer?)

Were Felipe and his classmates in the high-school on Sunday? (¿Estaban Felipe y sus compañeros en el liceo el Domingo?)

What was that? (¿Qué fue eso?) Where were you on Saturday? (¿Dónde estuviste tu el Sábado?)

The Past Continuous El pasado continuo nos dice cuando alguien o algo estaba ocurriendo algo. Por ejemplo en español : -Felipe estaba jugando con la pelota. -Mi mamá estuvo cocinando -Martin estuvo dando una prueba Este tiempo verbal utiliza 2 verbos los primeros pueden ser el was o were y el segundo verbo es el gerundio o continuo de los verbos en infinitivo. Veamos algunos ejemplos :

study : estudiar Felipe was studying

studying : estudiando

(Felipe estuvo estudiando)

write : escribir writing Martín was writing in his copybook

: escribiendo

(Martín estuvo escribiendo en su cuaderno)

Eat : comer eating : comiendo Faber and Rama were eating hot dogs at the mall yesterday. (Faber y Rama estuvieron comiendo completos en el mall ayer) Para la forma negativa utilizamos la misma forma que el Pasado con was y were, agregando la palabra NOT o forma con apostrofe n’t . Por ejemplo :

Felipe was not studying (Felipe no estuvo estudiando)

Martin wasn’t writing (Martín no estuvo escribiendo)

Faber and Rama weren’t eating hot – dogs.. (Faber y Rama no estuvieron comiendo completos…) En forma interrogativa o preguntas se debe hacer lo mismo que con la forma interrogativa con el verbo was y were. Por ejemplo

-Was Felipe studying Chemistry for the test’? (¿Estuvo Felipe estudiando Química para la prueba?)

Was the teacher explaining? (¿Estuvo el profesor explicando?

-Were your classmates writing from the board? ¿Estuvieron tus compañeros (de curso) esribiendo de la pizarra?

PAST SIMPLE

El pasado continuo que hemos visto con varios ejemplos puede ser usado con el pasado simple, es decir para expresar una idea completa, para decir algo que estaba sucediendo o que algo estaba pasando cuando ocurrió otra cosa o fue interrumpido por algo. Esto puede usarse con el Pasado Simple de distintos verbos (verbos regulares, verbos irregulares o verbo irregular con was o were) Por ejemplo :

-Felipe was at the cinema. He was watching a movie. (Felipe estuvo en el cine. El estuvo mirando una película)

-My mm was in the kitchen. She was cooking cookies. (Mi mamá estuvo en la cocina. Ella estuvo cocinando galletas)

-Faber was in the school gym. He was practising ping-pong (Faber estuvo en el gimnasio del liceo. El estuvo practicando ping-pong) Tambien se puede utilizar con la palabra when (cuando) Ejemplos -Faber was playing with his ball in the yard when his dad arrived (Faber estaba jugando con su pelota en el patio cuando su papá llegó) -Rama and Martin were talking about video games when Faber arrived. (Rama y Martin estaban conversando acerca de juegos de video cuando Faber llegó) -Alejandra was playing with her mobile cell when the phone rang. (Alejandra estaba jugando con su celular cuando el teléfono sonó) -Felipe Andrés was typing in his computer when his mom called him. (Felipe Andrés estaba escribiendo en su computador cuando su mamá lo llamó) -We were in the ittle house when it began to rain. (Nosotros estábamos en la casa pequeña cuando comenzó a llover) -I was waiting for a taxi when Rama apperared. (Yo estaba esperando taxi cuando Rama apareció)

En preguntas -What were you doing when the ring rang? (¿Qué estabas tu haciendo cuando el timbre sonó?) -Where were they eating when the teacher called them? (¿Dónde estaban ellos comiendo cuando el profesor los llamó?) PREGUNTA EN PASADO -What did Faber do when the test finished? (¿Qué Faber hizo cuando la prueba terminó?) -Where did you go when the film was over? (¿Dónde tu fuiste cuando la peliciula terminó?) Examples : -My dad eats potatoes (Mi papa come papas) __My dad doesn’t eat potatoes
