5. When a pair or group has finished forming sentences, have them discuss whether the sentences are true for them or, for sentences not in the first person, if the sentence is a good description of anyone they know. Encourage them to give extra information and to ask follow-up questions. Make note of any errors or problems to review later. 6. End the activity promptly after 20 minutes. Have each group share a few of their revised sentences with the class. 7. Option: If you include blank cards in set, students can use them to write their own words and make additional sentences.

Preparation

Duplicate the worksheet and mount it on contstruction paper. Cut the cards apart. Make one set of cards for each pair or group of three to four students.

I am thinking seriously about my future. He is very honest with his friends. She is pretty outgoing at parties. You don’t make decisions quickly. My friends are really easygoing and relaxed. We don’t study hard at school. I am extremely careful with my money. I always drive carefully in the rain.

Procedure 1. Tell students they are going to arrange words to make sentences. Then they will change them so they are true sentences about themselves or people they know. 2. Put students in pairs or groups of three to four students. Distribute cards. Each pair or group should have one set of cards. 3. Model the activity. Use a pair or group’s cards to form the sentence I am thinking seriously about my future. Change the sentence so it is true for you. Add extra information. For example: I’m not thinking seriously about my future. I’m still pretty young, so I’m just trying to enjoy my life. 4. Have pairs or groups work to arrange the cards into sentences. As students are working, walk around to monitor the activity and help as needed. Tell students that there are many correct ways to arrange the cards. They should make 6 to 8 sentences.
