Learning activity 1 Evidence: Modeling excellence

Fuente: SENA

“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.” Aristotle. For this evidence, go online and find information about the daily routine of at least three people you consider role models. You should compare their routines and find the things they have in common. Then, you should write a threeparagraph composition about their commonalities and the way your routine resembles or will resemble theirs. Make sure you use the conjunctions (so, either, neither, too) you learned in this learning activity. The structure of the composition is as follows: Paragraph 1: A short description about why you decided to choose those people and a short description about who they are. Paragraph 2: The similarities you found in their routines. Paragraph 3: The way your routine reflects or will reflect their routines. Look at the example below:

Example: For this composition, I decided to get information about three high-achievers that inspire me to do my best in everything I do. They are goal-oriented people who are always on the lookout for exciting ways to grow both professionally and personally.   

Elon Musk is a Canadian magnate, inventor, and investor. Ray Kurzweil is an American computer scientist, inventor, futurist and a director of engineering at Google. Jason Silva is a Venezuelan-American filmmaker and performance philosopher.

Even though they belong to different generations, I was able to find several commonalities in their routines: The three of them think commitment is the most important quality you should have if you want to achieve your goals. Jason doesn’t start his day without looking at his to-do list first and Ray doesn’t either. Setting goals is an essential element for success according to them. Before they go to bed, Jason and Ray write what they plan to accomplish the next day. Elon does too, but he prefers to write his goals in the morning. They all have a notebook to keep track of what they do and make sure they are focused on their priorities. Elon doesn’t watch TV. Neither do Jason or Ray. They think it is a passive activity that makes them waste time. They prefer to read and go online to find the most recent articles about their interests. Jason and Elon always take notes about what they read and so does Ray. Additionally, they think a balanced diet is a key element in regards to high cognitive abilities. Jason never eats processed carbs or sugar and neither does Elon. Elon and Ray enjoy working out because it promotes the birth of new neurons. Jason does too, but he doesn’t go to the gym. He likes rock climbing and bodyweight training. In regards to mortality, Ray has a very particular approach. He thinks dying should be treated as a disease. He feels technology will make us immortal, and Jason does too. Elon is more cautious in his optimism, but he also thinks our well-being is being enhanced by technology. In my case, I think I have not been as organized as I can in regards to my goals. From now on, I will start using the day planner to check off the activities that I do during the day. In regards to diet, I am going to start cutting down on carbs and sugar. I know it is not going to be easy because most people don’t know anything about their detrimental effects so they are always offering them. It was

good to find out that they also think commitment is essential if we want to get ahead in life. That was a lesson my dad taught me when I was a child and I couldn’t feel more grateful for that.
