Seismic o p e r a t o r s search for o i l . On l a n d we use a t h u m p e r t r u c k . T h e t h u m p e r t r u c k carries heavy plates. Heavy plates are t h e energy source. T h e heavy plates h i t t h e g r o u n d and make s h o c k waves. Sometimes we use explosives. T h e e x p l o s i o n is t h e energy source. T h e e x p l o s i o n sends s h o c k waves t h r o u g h t h e rock. The layers of r o c k reflect the waves t o t h e receiver. We call these reflected waves.
