An evil of society, that harms every aspect of ur life. It destroys ur capabilities of thinking, decreases productivity & can even cause death at times. I was a victim at one stage too, but I held tightly on to Allah Almighty's rope. Alhamdulillah now Im out of it, but I still feel there are some barriers to cross. Let me give u my point of view, that I have always believed that Allah's power is far more powerful than black magic or any other evil. This has to be every Muslim's primary belief; else black magic will have more influence on u. I have always regarded black magic as **** & will continue to do so. The magicians would stoop to the lowest Xtreme to achieve their level of status within their evil culminated society. They eat all the rotten trash that u can think of, from **** to dead baby foetus, from lizards to snakes...!!!!! There are various forms of black magic, the most dangerous being sifli. They are the worst form of evil. From what I've heard, the black magic that we see 2day is only a page from a book that was destroyed centuries ago. A lot of guppies asked for my help my via pm so here is my reply in detail. Im not here to intimidate all of u folks, rather instill a cure for this fear that everyone has in the back of their head, & remove it permanently. Anyone affected by this evil can notice its effects instantly. There will be "strange" events like blood on the walls, or ur clothes, smell of rotten flesh, bad foul stenches etc...But this should not deter u from staying on the right path nor should it bring even the faintest hint of fear in ur heart. Remember satan breeds on fear & hate, so let the fear of Allah grow in ur heart & make it strong, not the fear of the unknown. Having said all of this, here are some cures, that I've found in my research after sticking around with some aalims. If the person feels he is under a black spell, recite Surah Al Baqarah over a bucket of water(with leaves from a neem tree) & bath with it everyday for 7 consecutive days. This has to be done consecutively without any breaks in between. If the person feels his/her home is affected, then recite Surah Al Baqarah for 7 consecutive days clearly so that the recitation can be heard in every corner of the home. A stereo playing the recitation of Surah Al Baqarah is also valid, & has the same effect. Recite Ayat Al Kursi followed by Surah Al Kafiroon, Al Uhud, Al Falaq, Al Nas after every obligatory prayers. One can also recite this before driving a car or travelling, to protect him/her from any harm.

Performing Wodhu before u go to sleep at night. Recite Ayat Al Kursi every night before u sleep, this also protects u from nightmares. From other sources There are means of protecting oneself against the dangers of witchcraft before it happens, the most important and beneficial of which is protecting oneself by reciting the dhikrs, du’aa’s and prayers for protection that are prescribed in sharee’ah, such as reciting Aayat al-Kursiy after every obligatory prayer, after the dhikrs that are prescribed after the salaam. It may also be recited when going to sleep. Aayat al-Kurisy is the greatest verse in the Holy Qur’aan, in which Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): “Allaah! Laa ilaaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He), Al-Hayyul-Qayyoom (the Ever Living, the One Who sustains and protects all that exists). Neither slumber nor sleep overtakes Him. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is he that can intercede with Him except with His Permission? He knows what happens to them (His creatures) in this world, and what will happen to them in the Hereafter. And they will never compass anything of His Knowledge except that which He wills. His Kursiy extends over the heavens and the earth, and He feels no fatigue in guarding and preserving them. And He is the Most High, the Most Great” [al-Baqarah 2:255] One may also recite Qul Huwa Allaahu ahad, Qul ‘Aoodhu bi Rabb il-Falaq and Qul ‘a’oodhu bi Rabb ilnaas (i.e., the last three soorahs of the Qur’aan) following every obligatory prayer, and recite these three soorahs three times at the beginning of the day, after Fajr prayer, and at the beginning of the night, after Maghrib. Another dhikr is to recite the last two verses of Soorat al-Baqarah at the beginning of the night. In these verses Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): “The Messenger (Muhammad) believes in what has been sent down to him from his Lord, and (so do) the believers. Each one believes in Allaah, His Angels, His Books, and His Messengers. (They say,) “We make no distinction between one another of His Messengers” — and they say, “We hear, and we obey. (We seek) Your forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is the return (of all).”

286. Allaah burdens not a person beyond his scope. He gets reward for that (good) which he has earned, and he is punished for that (evil) which he has earned. “Our Lord! Punish us not if we forget or fall into error, our Lord! Lay not on us a burden like that which You did lay on those before us (Jews and Christians); our Lord! Put not on us a burden greater than we have strength to bear. Pardon us and grant us forgiveness. Have mercy on us. You are our Mawlaa (Patron, Supporter and Protector) and give us victory over the disbelieving people” [al-Baqarah 2:285-286] It is narrated in a saheeh report that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever recites Aayat al-Kursiy at night will have protectors from Allaah and no devil will come near him until morning comes.” And it is reported in a saheeh report that he (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) also said: “Whoever recites the last two verses of Soorat al-Baqarah at night, that will suffice him.” The meaning – and Allaah knows best – is that they will suffice him against all evil. You should also frequently recite du’aa’s seeking refuge in the “perfect words of Allaah from the evil of that which He has created, night and day, when stopping in any place in the city or in the desert, by air or by sea, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever makes a stop then says: ‘A’oodhu bi kalimaat Allaah il-taammati min sharri ma khalaq (I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allaah from the evil of that which He has created),’ nothing will harm him until he moves on from that place.” At the beginning of the day and at the beginning of the night, the Muslim should say three times: “Bismillaah illaahi laa yadurru ma’a ismihi shay’un fi’l-ard wa la fi’l-sama’ wa huwa al-samee’ ul-‘aleem (In the name of Allaah with Whose name nothing is harmed on earth nor in heaven, and He is the All-Hearing, AllKnowing)” because it is narrated in a saheeh report that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) encouraged that, and that is a means a protection against all evil. These dhikrs and prayers for protection are among the greatest means of protecting oneself against the evils of witchcraft and other evils, for the one who recites them regularly and with sincerity, faith and trust in Allaah, depending on Him and keeping their minds and hearts open to what the evidence says. They are also one of the greatest weapons for removing the effects of witchcraft once it has taken place; as well as that one should beseech Allaah a great deal and ask Him to relieve the harm. Another du’aa’ that has been narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) for treating sickness caused by witchcraft and other things, and which the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah

be upon him) used as a ruqyah to treat his companions, is: “Allaahumma Rabb al-Naas, adhhib al-ba’s wa’shfi, anta al-Shaafiy, laa shifaa’a illa shifaa’uka, shifaa’an laa yughaadiru saqaman (O Allaah, Lord of mankind, remove the evil and grant healing, for You are the Healer. There is no healing except Your healing, which does not leave any sickness).” This should be recited three times. And there is the ruqyah with which Jibreel (peace be upon him) treated the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him): “Bismillaah urqeek, min kulli shay’in yu’dheek, wa min sharri kulli nafsin aw ‘aynin haasidin Allaah yushfeek, bismillaah urqeek (In the name of Allaah I perform ruqyah for you, from everything that is harming you, from the evil of every soul or envious eye may Allaah heal you, in the name of Allaah I perform ruqyah for you).” This should also be repeated three times Source www.islamqa.com I'll continue adding more info when I get the time May Allah protect every one from this evil. Cure From Black Magic, Jinn & Illness by Shaykh Muhammed Saleem Dhorat In recent times, people distressed with ailments - internal and external - have resorted to people who cure through ta'weez and, in some cases, through the agency of jinn (or mu'akkal as some call it). I do not intend to go into the depth of the evils that lie within this institution, but would sincerely request readers to take note of the following points with a fair mind and without being biased so that we may be saved from the deceit of Shaytan which is hidden in the form of pious saintly people who claim to have supernatural powers to cure illnesses and solve problems. 1. Illnesses, problems, calamities, quarrels are natural for humans, and one should look for remedy and solution through lawful means. One should not, without any endeavour, assume the problem or illness to be through black magic or an outside effect. Refer to the doctors and have it treated. 2. If one is suffering from anxiety and depression, and cannot find peace of mind, then he/she should check his/her life and see where the Commands of Allah and His Rasool sallallahu alayhi wasallam are being violated. Come nearer to Allah through His Remembrance, for that is where the contentment of heart and peace of mind lies. In the Remembrance of Allah do hearts find satisfaction. (Al Qur ‫أ‬¢â‚¬â„¢aan 13:28) 3. The knowledge of the unseen is an Attribute of Allah the Almighty Only. None in the heavens and on earth knows the unseen except Allah. Many of these "so called" healers claim to know many things of the unseen, and to believe such people could lead one to kufr. Rasoolullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam has said, "One who resorts to an arraf (fortune-teller) and asks him about anything, Salaah will not be accepted from him for forty days." (Muslim) Rasoolullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam has also said, "One who resorts to a kahin (soothsayer/claimant to the knowledge of the unseen) and believes him in what he says, has rejected that which has been sent down to Prophet Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wasallam." 4. Those who violate the law of Allah cannot be pious. A Walee (Friend) of Allah is one who abstains from disobedience to Allah. Those who touch women, who treat women without any veil or partition, who sit with women in solitude i.e. without a male mahram, how can they possibly be the Friends of Allah. Do not be deceived, friends. 5. In case of doubt, contact your local ulama or those who have been known to you for years for their taqwa, piety and reliability. insha'Allah, their guidance will save you from going into the wrong hands. NOW TO SAFEGUARD YOURSELF FROM BLACK-MAGIC Allah ta'ala, through his Infinite Mercy, has taught His Servants such du'a and recitation which does not only cure, but saves them from the evil effects of black-magic, jinn, etc.: 1. After completing fardh Salat, recite the masnoon waza ‫أ‬¢â‚¬â„¢if and thereafter ayatul kursi.

Note: Ayatul kursi is a verse from Soorah Baqarah starting Allahu laa'ilaaha illaa huwal... (Al Qur ‫أ‬¢â‚¬â„¢aan 2:255) 2. Before going to Sleep, read Ayatul kursi. Rasoolullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam has said, "Whoever recites Ayatul kursi at night, a protector (angel) from Allah continually safeguards him and Shaytaan will not come near him until morning."(Bukhari) 3. Read Soorah lkhlas, Soorah Falaq and Soorah Nas after every fardh Salaat. (Read them thrice after the Fair and Maghrib Salat). 4. Before going to sleep, read the last two verses of Soorah Baqarah. Rasoolullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam has said, "Whoever recites the last two verses of Soorah Al Baqarah at night, they will be sufficient for him. " (They will save him from Shaytaan and other misfortunes). (Bukhari, Muslim, Tirmizi, Aboo Dawood, Nasaee, Ibne Majah) 5. Read the following du ‫أ‬¢â‚¬â„¢a in abundance:

A'oozu bikalimaatil'laahit taam'maati min shar'ri maa khalaq Translation: I seek refuge in all the Perfect Words Of Allah from the mischief of His Creations. (Muslim, Tirmizi, Ibne Majah) 6. Read the following du'a at the beginning of the day and night: Bismil'laahil lazi laa yadhur'ru ma'a ismihi shay'un fil ardhi walaa fis samaa'i wahuwas samee'ul 'aleem Translation: In the Name of Allah with Whose Name nothing can cause harm in the earth and the heaven. And He is All Hearing, All Knowing. (Aboo Dawood, Tirmizi, Ibne Maiah, Hakim) The above mentioned prayers will, insha'Allah, prevent the evil effects of black-magic and other outside effects. These are measures derived directly from the teaching of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wasallam and, if recited regularly, with sincerity, yaqeen and Trust in Allah, then one will never complain of evil-effects. REMEDY FOR ILLNESSES Regular recitation of the above mentioned is also effective in removing evil effects. Along with these azkar, turn to Allah, repent sincerely and beseech Him. After all, it is He Only that brings cure to every illness and solution to every problem. The following du'a are also effective for cure: Allaahumma rabban naas, azhibil ba's, ishfi antas shaafi, laa shifaa ‫أ‬¢â‚¬â„¢a illaa shifaa ‫أ‬¢â‚¬â„¢uk, shifaa ‫أ‬¢â‚¬â„¢an laa yughaadiru suqman. Translation: 0 Allah 0 the Lord Of the people! Remove the pain. Grant cure, You are the Curer. There is no cure except Your Cure. Grant such a cure that leaves no sickness. (Bukhari, Muslim, Tirmizi, ibne Majah)

Bismillaahi arqeeka, min kulli shay'in yu'zeeka, wa min sharri kulli nafsin aw 'aynin haasidin, allaahu yashfeeka, bismillaahi arqeeka. Translation:In The Name of Allah I make damm (blow) upon you from everything which harms you and from the evil ofevery person or jealous eye. May Allah grant you cure. In The Name of Allah I make damm (blow) on you. (Muslim, Ibne Majah) Once again, remember that those people who violate the laws of Allah, cannot be saintly persons. Seek guidance from ulama who are known to you. Insha ‫أ‬¢â‚¬â„¢Allah, you will not go wrong. May Allah safeguard all Muslims from calamities; may He safeguard their Deen; may He give them the correct understanding of Deen; may He keep them away from every action which is contrary to the teachings of Islam and which brings the Displeasure of Allah. Ameen. Black magic (sihr) is something that definitely exists and causes harm to people. The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him & give him peace) was also afflicted with black magic. A Jew by the name of Labid ibn Asim who outwardly posed to be a believer (munafiq) carried out black magic on the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him & give him peace). He took the hair of the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him & give him peace) and made eleven knots and placed it under a rock in a well called Zarwan. The effect of this was that it created uncertainty in the mind of the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him & give him peace) as to whether he had done or not done certain things (although this had no effect on his religious and prophetic obligations). At times the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him & give him peace) felt he had accomplished something yet he had not done so and vice versa. The angel Jibra’il informed the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him & give him peace) as to what had occurred and came down with the two Surahs, namely Surah al-Falaq and Surah an-Nas. The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him & give him peace) together with the Companions (Allah be pleased with them all) went to the well and removed the knotted hair. As each verse was recited, the knots untied miraculously. At the eleventh knot, the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him & give him peace) was relieved from the effects of this black magic. (See: Tafisir Ibn Kathir & Ma’arif al-Qur’an) Thus, scholars mention that the recitation of the Mu’awwazatayn (the two Quls: al-Falaq and al-Nas) is very beneficial in the removing of and protection from black magic. One should make a habit of reciting these especially when retiring to bed and after the Fardh prayers. There are many virtues of these two Surahs mentioned in the Ahadith. Sayyida A’isha (Allah be pleased with her) narrates that whenever the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him & give him peace) would become ill, he would recite the Mu’awwizat (Surah al-Falaq & Surah an-Nas) and blow over himself. When his illness was aggravated, I used to recite these two Surahs (and blow my breath) over him and make him rub his body with his own hand, for its blessings. (Sahih al-Bukhari, no. 4728) Apart from these two Surahs, the recitation of Surah al-Fatiha, Ayat al-Kursi, and last two verses of Surah alBaqarah is also very beneficial.

Moreover, the famous Tibi’i Ka’b al-Ahbar (Allah be pleased with him) states: “Had it not been for the phrases that I recite regularly, the Jews would have turned me into a donkey (m: out of black magic). It was said to him: “What are these phrases?” He replied:

(Transliteration): “A’uzu bi wajhillah al-Adhim alladhi laysa shay’un a’dhamu minhu wa bi kalimatillah attammati allati la yujawizuhunna barrun wa la fajir wa bi asmaillah al-husna kulliha ma alimtu minha wa ma lam a’lam min sharri ma khalaqa wa bara’a wa zara’a.” Translation: “I seek the protection of Allah the Great; He, than whom there is nothing greater. And I seek the protection of the perfect words of Allah which no man, virtuous or evil, can even transcend; and I seek the protection of all the beautiful names of Allah, those of them which I know and those which I do not know, from the evil of everything He (Allah) created, to which He has given existence, and which He has spread (over the earth or universe).” (Recorded by Imam Malik in his al-Muwatta, 2/541, no. 2737) Thus, the above supplication can be very beneficial in the removing of the effect of black magic. Also, the consuming of Ajwa dates has been prescribed by the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him & give him peace) as a remedy for black magic. Amir ibn Sa’d narrates from his father that the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him & give him peace) said: “He who eats seven Ajwa dates every morning, will not be affected by poison or magic on the day he eats them.” (Sahih al-Bukhari, no. 5130) The above are just some of the methods in removing the effect of black magic that have been prescribed in the Sunnah, thus one may resort to any of them. There are also other remedies besides the above, but time does not allow me to mention them all. Finally, before parting, I would like to state that undoubtedly black magic is something that exits but it is observed that many people experience some type of downfall or illness and quickly jump to the conclusion that somebody has carried out black magic and start pointing fingers at others. If a child refuses to marry someone whom the parents want him/her to marry, then the parents begin to regard it to be the cause of black magic. Similarly, if the relations of the husband and wife turn sour, the first assumption is that it must be black magic that was carried out by such and such person. Black magic is regarded to be the cause behind every minor and major illness. This type of understanding is incorrect. One should not be too hasty in concluding that the cause of a problem is black magic, because more often than not, black magic has nothing to do with the problem. Secondly, due to this, many people have made it a business, in that they deceive people in making them believe that they have some sort of black magic done upon them, thus they are charged with a massive sum for the treatment. People have made thousands in this business. Thus, one should be very careful in these matters, for in it rests the benefit of this world and the hereafter. Do not be too hasty in determining that the cause behind the problem is black magic. However, if there is substantial evidence such as the sudden break of illness, etc, then one may determine whether it is the cause of black magic or otherwise. And in the case of being afflicted with it, one must primarily turn to Allah Most High and resort to the remedies mentioned in the Qur’an and Sunnah. Also, if the help of others is sought, then one should only turn to those who are god-fearing and pious. May Allah Most High guide us all towards the right direction, Ameen. And Allah knows best.

Muhammad ibn Adam al-Kawthari Protection with Ruqya Shield From the works of Dr. Abu Ameenah Bilal Phillips, who made such research. Conditions According to some Islâmic scholars, both parties to the exorcism must fulfill certain spiritual and legal characteristics for effective treatment to take place. In describing these necessary attributes, Ibn al-Qayyim said: Treatment of fits due to spirit-possession requires two factors on the part of the possessed and on the part of the healer. 1) On the part of the possessed it requires (a) personal strength and turning to the Creator of these spirits truthfully, and (b) the correct method of seeking refuge wherein the heart and tongue will be in harmony. Indeed this type of treatment is, in fact, warfare, and the warrior will not be able to defeat his enemy unless he possesses two qualities: that his weapon itself be good and sharp and that his arm be strong. If either of these two conditions are not met, a long sword will be of no value. And if both are missing? The heart which is in a state of desolation and ruin with respect to tawheed (belief in the unity of Allaah), trust in Allaah, fear of Allaah and turning to Him, will have no weapon. 2) The requirement on the part of the exorcist is that he also possess both [of the above-mentioned] factors.[23] Ibn Taymeeyah warned: If the possessing demon is an ifreet among jinn and the exorcist is weak, it could harm him. Consequently, he should shield himself by reciting prayers through which he seeks refuge in Allaah, the mu‘awwidhataan[24] and Aayah al-Kursee; by performing formal prayer (salaah); by making supplications and doing other similar things which strengthen his faith; and by putting aside sins through which the evil jinn may gain control over him. Such a person is a soldier of Allaah, and since exorcism is among the greatest forms of jihaad, he should beware not to help his enemy overcome him by his own sins. If the circumstance is beyond his capacity, he should remember that ‘Allaah does not burden a soul beyond its capacity.’ He should not expose himself to tribulation by taking on what he is unable to handle.[25] Methodology The following steps of exorcism have been deduced from the texts of the Sunnah, the practice of the Prophet’s companions and early scholars. The order in which the steps are mentioned is not intended to be unalterably fixed, but merely a possible sequence which may be followed. First Step: (a) Undo Charm In cases where possession is a result of magic the most effective method of canceling its effects is by finding and undoing the charm used in the bewitchment. Ibn al-Qayyim stated, “Removing the charm and neutralizing it is the most profound treatment.”[26] Once the charm has been found and dismantled, the spell will be broken and the jinnee connected with it will leave the person alone. This was the method used by Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) on the occasion of his own bewitchment. Zayd ibn Arqam reported that a Jew, by the name of Labeeb ibn A‘sam [from the Zuraaq clan],[27] cast a spell on the Prophet (pbuh). When he began to suffer from it, Jibreel came to him and revealed the two chapters for seeking refuge (mu‘awwidhataan) and then said to him, “Surely, it was a Jew who cast this spell on you, and the magical charm is in a certain well.” The Prophet (pbuh) sent ‘Alee ibn Alee Taalib to go and fetch the charm. When he returned with it, the Prophet (pbuh) told him to untie the knots, one by one, and to recite a verse from the two chapters with the undoing of each knot. When he did so, the Prophet (pbuh) got up as if he had been released from being tied up.[28] Although destroying the charm is the best method of breaking the spell, it is the most difficult, unless someone confesses or the charm is discovered accidentally. The Prophet (pbuh) only found out the location of the charm by revelation. Consequently, the cases of jinn-possession induced by magic may be treated by the usual method for general demonic possession outlined below.

First Step: (b) Address It was the practice of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) to address the possessing spirit and command it to leave. In his narration Ya‘laa ibn Murrah reported that on one occasion a woman brought her demented son to the Prophet (pbuh). The Prophet (pbuh) said [to the boy], “Get out, enemy of Allaah! I am the Messenger of Allaah!” The boy recovered, and she gave the Prophet (pbuh) a gift of two male sheep, some aqat (dried curd)[29] and fat. Allaah’s Messenger (pbuh) said, “Take the aqat, the fat and one of the sheep and return the other.”[30] According to some early scholars, an attempt should be made to communicate with the intruding spirit(s), encouraging it/them to leave by giving advice and admonishment. This procedure was proposed by Ibn Taymeeyah, who said: In the first instance, where possession is due to sexual desire on the jinnee’s part – even with the consent of the human partner – it (i.e., sexual relations) is as forbidden by Allaah as it is among [unmarried] humans. Without the possessed human’s consent it becomes an even graver case of atrocity and oppression. In such circumstances the jinn should be addressed and informed that their acts are either abominable and prohibited or vile and tyrannical. They are informed [of this] so that evidence may he brought against them on the Day of Judgment and that they are made aware that they have broken the laws of Allaah and His Prophet, whom He sent to both worlds – that of men and jinn. In cases of the second category wherein the [possessed] human was unaware that he had harmed a jinnee, the jinnee should be addressed and informed that the human’s act was unintentional and therefore not deserving of punishment. If it (i.e.. the accidental injury) took place in the man’s house or on his property, the jinnee should be informed that the house and property belong to the man and, as such, he is permitted to use them in allowable ways as he pleases. The jinn should also be told that they do not have the right to inhabit human property without the permission of the occupants. They only have a right to dwell in places not occupied by humans, like abandoned buildings and open country.[31] [In summary], if the jinn attack a human, they should be informed of Allaah and His Messenger’s ruling on the matter, and proof of their error should be pointed out. They should be instructed to be righteous and to abstain from evil, just as is done with humans, based upon Allaah’s statement: ‘We will not punish [the wayward] until a messenger has been sent [to them].’ Qur’aan, 17:15 As a result of this obligation, the Prophet (pbuh) forbade the killing of snakes found in houses until after they have been told to leave three times. In Saheeh Muslim and other books of hadeeth there is a narration front Aboo Sa‘eed al-Khudree in which he stated that the Prophet (pbuh) said, “Madeenah has a group of jinn who became Muslims, so whoever sees any snakes [in their homes] should request them to leave three times. If any of them appear after that, he should kill it, because it is a devil.”[32] Second Step: Cursing If the jinnee refuses to respond appropriately by leaving, the exorcist may then use harsh language wherein Allaah’s curse is invoked upon the jinnee. This step was specifically referred to by Ibn Taymeeyah, and he brought evidence in support of it in one of his works, saying, “The commanding of a jinnee to righteousness and its prohibition from evil should be carried out in the same way that humans are admonished. Whatever is allowable in the case of humans is also allowable in the case of jinn. For example, the repelling of jinn might require scolding, threatening and even evoking Allaah’s curse. Aboo ad-Dardaa’ narrated, “Allaah’s Messenger (pbuh) stood up [in prayer] and we heard him say, ‘I seek refuge in Allaah from you.’ Then he reached out his hand as if he were catching something, and he said three times, ‘I curse you by Allaah’s curse.’ When he finished praying, we asked him, ‘O Messenger of Allaah, we heard you say something in your prayer which we have never heard you say before, and we saw you stretch out your arm.’ He replied, ‘Indeed, Allaah’s enemy, Iblees, brought a fiery torch and tried to thrust it in my face, so I sought refuge in Allaah and cursed him by Allaah’s perfect curse three times. But he did not retreat. So I caught hold of him and, by Allaah, had it not been for the prayer our brother, Sulaymaan,[33] he would have been tied up for the children of Madeenah to play with.[34] This hadeeth provides the foundation for the practice of seeking refuge in Allaah from the jinn and cursing them by Allaah’s curse.”[35] Third Step: (a) Recitations Since the time of the Prophet (pbuh), recitation of the Qur’aan for the sick has been an accepted practice among Muslims. Textual evidence for the use of the Qur’aan in curing illnesses is based upon the following

verses: “We revealed in stages of the Qur’aan that which is a healing and mercy for believers. But for the unjust it only adds to their loss.” Qur’aan 17:82 “O mankind, there has come to you [in the Qur’aan] an admonition from your Lord and a healing for the [diseases] in your hearts and, for the believers, a guidance and mercy.” Qur’aan 10:57 Soorah al-Faatihah The companions of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) used to recite chapters and verses of the Qur’aan as a cure for possession as well as other illnesses. The uncle of Khaarijah ibn as-Salt reported that he went to the Prophet and embraced Islaam. During his return journey, fie came across a tribe which had among them a madman fettered in iron chains. The madman’s family said to him, “We have been informed that your companion (i.e., Prophet Muhammad (pbuh)) has come with good. Do you have anything with which to treat illnesses?” He recited over him Faatihah al-Kitaab,[36] and he got well. [In another narration it stated: “He recited over him Faatihah al Kitaab every morning and evening for three days. Whenever he would finish his recitation, he would gather his saliva and spit. And he got well.”] They gave him one hundred sheep [but he was in doubt about whether he should accept them] so he went back to Allaah’s Messenger and informed him of the incident. The Prophet (pbuh) asked him, “Did you recite anything else besides this?” He replied that he had not. The Prophet (pbuh) then said, “Take them, for by my religion, whoever devours the payment for a false incantation will be destroyed. Indeed, you have eaten the price of a truthful incantation.”[37] Aboo Sa‘eed al-Khudree said, “While we were on a journey, we dismounted at a place, whereupon a servant girl came to us and said, ‘The chief of our tribe has been stung by a scorpion and our men are not present. Is there anyone among you who can recite incantations?’ A man from among us, whom no one suspected knew incantations, got up and went with her, He subsequently recited over him. When the chief got well, he gave him thirty sheep and gave us milk to drink. On his return we asked him, ‘Did you have previous experience at reciting incantations?’ He replied, ‘No, I only recited over him Umm al-Kitaab.’[38] We agreed not to speak about it until we reached Madeenah and sought the Prophet’s advice. When we arrived and asked the Prophet (pbuh) about it, he said, ‘How did he know that it exorcises? Distribute the sheep among yourselves and set aside a share for me also.’”[39] Aayah al-Kursee[40] Among the greatest weapons which may be used to exorcise the jinn is Aayah al-Kursee, as confirmed in Abu Hurayrah’s narration: Allaah’s Messenger put me in charge of the zakaah of Ramadaan.[41] While I was doing so, someone came and began to rummage around in the food, so I caught hold of him and said, “By Allaah, I am going to take you to Allaah’s Messenger!” But the man implored, “Verily, I am poor and I have dependents. I am in great need.” So I let him go. The next morning the Prophet (pbuh) said, “O Aboo Hurayrah, what did your captive do last night?” I replied, “He complained of being in great need and of having a family, so I let him go.” The Prophet (pbuh) then said, “Surely, he lied to you and he will return.” Since I knew that he was going to return, I laid in wait for him. When he returned and began to dig about in the food, I grabbed him and said, “I am definitely going to take to you to Allaah’s Messenger (pbuh).” Again he pleaded, “Let me go! Verily, I am poor and I have a family. I will not return.” So I had mercy on him and let him go. The next morning Allaah’s Messenger (pbuh) said, “Aboo Hurayrah, what did your captive do last night?” I said that he complained of being in great need and of having a family, so I let him go. The Prophet (pbuh) replied, “Surely, he lied to you and he will return.” So I waited for him and grabbed him when he began to scatter food around. I said, “By Allaah, I will take you to Allaah’s Messenger. This is the third time, and you had promised that You would not return; yet you come back anyway!” He said, “Let me give you some words by which Allaah will benefit you.” I said, “What are they?” and he replied, “Whenever you go to bed, recite Aayah al-Kursee from beginning to end. If you do so, a guardian from Allaah will remain with you and Satan will not come near you until the morning.” I then let him go. The next morning the Messenger of Allaah said, “What did your captive do last night?” I said that he claimed that he would teach me some words by which Allaah would benefit me, so I let him go. When the Prophet (pbuh) asked what they were, I told him that they were the saying of Aayah al-Kursee before going to bed. I also told him that he said that a guardian from Allaah would remain with me, and Satan would not come near me until I awoke in the morning. The Prophet (pbuh) said,

“Indeed he has told the truth, although he is a compulsive liar. O Aboo Hurayrah, do you know with whom you have been speaking these past three nights?” I replied, “No,” and so he said, “That was a devil.”[42] Regarding Aayah al-Kursee Ibn Taymeeyah said: The countless many who have experience in this field unanimously confirm the incredible effectiveness of this verse in warding off the devils and breaking their spells. Indeed, it is greatly effective in repelling the evil jinn from human souls and exorcising them from the possessed as well as those prodded by the devils, like tyrants, those easily enraged, the lustful and lecherous, musicians and those who ecstatically whistle and clap. enraptured by their music. If this verse is sincerely recited over them, it will drive away the devils and neutralize their illusions. It will also disrupt satanic visions and devil-aided, supernatural feats performed by humans.[43] Soorah al-Baqarah Another means recommended for repelling the devil is reading the second chapter of the Qur’aan, Soorah alBaqarah (The Cow). Aboo Hurayrah quoted the Prophet (pbuh) as saying, “Do not make your houses like graveyards.[44] Verily, the devil flees from a house in which Soorah alBaqarah is read.”[45] According to the prophetic traditions, the last two verses of this chapter also have special merit for exorcism. Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was reported by an-Nu‘maan ibn Basheer to have said, “When the last two verses of Soorah al-Baqarah are read in a home for three consecutive nights, the devil will not come near it.”[46] Basmalah[47] Also reported to have preventive and curative properties is the basmalah. This is written before each chapter of the Qur’aan, excluding the 9th chapter, and is also found in verse 30 of chapter 27 (Soorah an-Naml). Aboo al-Maalih’s father quoted the Prophet (pbuh) as saying, “Do not say, ‘May Satan be degraded,’ for surely, he will grow until he becomes the size of a house and he will say, ‘By my power, I will possess him.’ Say instead, ‘Bismillaah (‘In the name of Allaah’). If you do that, he will shrink until he becomes the size of a fly.”[48] ‘Uthmaan ibn Aboo al-‘Aas ath-Thaqafee reported that when he complained to the Messenger of Allaah (pbuh) about a pain which he felt in his body from the time he accepted Islaam, the Prophet (pbuh) said, “Place your hand at the place where you feel the pain in your body and say, ‘Bismillaah’ three times, then say seven times, ‘A‘oodhu billaahi wa qudratihee min sharri ma ajidu wa uhaadhir.’ (‘I seek refuge in Allaah and His power from the evil that I find and (from the evil) that I fear.’)”[49] Ta‘awwudh[50] Seeking refuge in Allaah has been prescribed in some Qur’ânic verses as a means of warding off the devils: “If Satan touches you, seek refuge in Allaah, for verily, He is the Hearer and Knower.” Qur’aan, 41:36 “Say, ‘My Lord, I seek refuge in You from the prodding of the devils, and I seek refuge in You, My Lord, from their presence.’ ” Qur’aan, 23:97 In regard to one whose face had become red with anger, the Prophet said, “Verily, I know some words which would cause his anger to subside if he said them. He should say, ‘A‘oodhu billaahi minash-shaytaanir-rajeem.’ (‘I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan, the cursed.’)”[51] Before the recitation of the opening chapter of the Qur’aan in formal prayer, the Prophet (pbuh) used to say, “A‘oodhu billaahi minash-shaytaani min nafkhihee wa nafathihee wa hamzih.” (“I seek refuge in Allaah from the pride, poetry and touch of Satan, the cursed.”)[52] Among the most powerful Qur’ânic formulas for seeking refuge are the last two chapters of the Qur’aan, collectively referred to as the mu‘awwidhataan. According to a number of reports, these two chapters were specifically revealed to break the magical spell which had been placed upon the Prophet (pbuh).[53] The Prophet’s wife, ‘Aa’ishah, also reported that whenever any of the members of the household fell ill, Allaah’s Messenger (pbuh) used to blow[54] over them by reciting the mu‘awwidhataan.[55] Adhaan and Iqaamah[56] Both calls to pray have been defined by the Prophet (pbuh) as having the ability to drive away the devils. Aboo Hurayrah reported Allaah Messenger (pbuh) as saying, “When the adhaan is made, Satan runs away and breaks wind to drown it out. When it is finished, he returns, but when the iqaamah is proclaimed, he again turns and runs away. When it is finished, he returns to distract

a man [praying], saying, ‘Remember such and such; remember such and such,’ referring to something the man did not have on his mind. As a result, he forgets how much he has prayed.”[57] Suhayl reported that his father sent him to the Haarithah clan along with someone. On the way there, a voice from an enclosure called him by his name. When the person with him looked into the enclosure, he saw no one. Upon his return, he mentioned it to his father, who said, “Had I known that you would have met such a situation, I would never have sent you. But whenever you hear such a call, pronounce the adhaan, for I have heard Aboo Hurayrah say that he heard Allaah’s Messenger say, ‘Whenever the adhaan is given, Satan runs away vehemently.’”[58] It was also the practice of the Prophet to recite the adhaan in the ears of children at the time of their birth. Aboo Raafi‘ said, “I saw Allaah’s Messenger (pbuh) call the adhaan in the ear of [his grandson] al-Hasan ibn ‘Alee, when Faatimah gave birth to him.”[59] This was to neutralize or to reduce the effect of the devil’s influence on the newborn. According to Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), all newborn children are touched by the Devil. He was reported by Aboo Hurayrah to have said, “Satan pricks with his finger every newborn child of Aadam’s descendants. They all begin screaming from Satan’s jab, except Mary and her son [Jesus].”[60] Prophetic Prayers The Prophet (pbuh) taught a number of prayers for a variety of occasions. Some cure illnesses caused by the jinn and others ward them off. The following are a selection of them: ‘Bismillaahi yubreeka wa min kulli daa’in yashfeeka wa min sharri haasidin idhaa hasad[61] wa sharri kulli dhee ‘ayn.”(“In the name of Allaah, may He make you well and may He cure you from every ill, from the evil of the jealous when they envy, and from the harm of the evil eye.”)[62] “Bismillaahi arqeeka min kulli shay’in yu’dheeka, min sharri kulli nafsin aw ‘aynin haasidin. Allaahu yashfeeka. Bismillaahi arqeek.” (“In the name of Allaah I exorcise you from everything which harms you, from the evil of every soul or jealous eye. May Allaah cure you. In the name of Allaah I exorcise you.”)[63] “A‘oodhu bi kalimaatillaahit-taammati min kulli shaytaanin wa haammatin wa min kulli ‘aynin laammah.”(“I seek refuge with the perfect words of Allaah from every devil, poisonous pest and every harmful evil eye.”)[64] “Adh-hibil-ba’sa rabban-naasi washfi antash-shaafee laa shifaa’a illaa shifaa’uka shifaa’an laa yughaadiru saqamaa.” (“Remove the suffering, O Lord of mankind, and heal it perfectly –You are the true healer; there is no cure except Your cure – a cure which is not followed by sickness.”)[65] “Whoever says, ‘Laa i1aaha illallaahu wahdahoo laa shareeka lah, lahulmulku wa lahul-hamdu wa huwa ‘alaa kulli shay’in qadeer,’ (‘There is no god but Allaah, Who is alone without partner; the dominion and praise are His, and He is able to do all things,’) one hundred times per day will have a reward similar to freeing ten slaves, one hundred good deeds will be recorded for him, one hundred of his sins erased, and he will have a charm against Satan for the whole day until the night. No one can do better than that except one who does it more often.”[66] “If one of you goes to his wife and says, ‘Allaahumma jannibnash-shaytaana wa jannibish-shaytaana maa razaqta-naa,’ (‘O Allaah, keep Satan away from us and keep Satan away from what (offspring) You have bestowed upon us,’) and they have a child, Satan will not harm him or gain control over him.”[67] “If a man enters his house and remembers Allaah while entering and while eating, Satan says [to his companions], ‘There is no place to pass the night and no dinner.’ But if he enters without remembering Allaah while entering, Satan says. ‘You have caught a place to pass the night.’ And if he does not mention Allaah’s name before eating, he says, ‘You have caught both a place for the night and dinner.’”[68] Third Step: (b) Medicines The Prophet (pbuh) prescribed certain natural medicines for sicknesses associated with the jinn. Dates For protection against magic or for its treatment, the Prophet (pbuh) recommended the eating of dates in the morning. Sa‘d quoted the Messenger of Allaah (pbuh) as saying, “Whoever takes seven [Madeenite][69] ‘ajwah[70] dates in the morning, neither magic nor poison will hurt him that day.”[71] Truffles The Prophet (pbuh) was reported to have said. “Truffles are a form of manna (mann) and their water is a cure for the eye.”[72]

Bath In cases of suffering from the evil eye the Prophet (pbuh) recommended taking a bath with water used by the source of the evil eye. Ibn ‘Abbaas quoted Allaah’s Messenger (pbuh) as saying, “The effect of the evil eye is real, for if there were anything which could overtake destiny, it would have been [the effect of] the evil eye. So if you are asked to take a bath [as a cure] for the evil eye, do it.”[73] ‘Aa’ishah also said that the Prophet (pbuh) used to instruct the possessor of the evil eye to perform ablution (wudoo‘) and then for the one suffering to bathe from its water.[74] Fourth Step: Beating If the above-mentioned three steps fail to bring the desired results, the exorcist may then resort to striking the possessed individual in order to inflict pain on the possessing spirit and to elicit a response to commands, prayers or recitations. Ibn Taymeeyah spoke on this subject, saying, Curing a possessed person and removal of the jinn may require that the afflicted individual be beaten several times. However, the blows fall upon the jinn and the possessed human does not feel them. When a demented person regains his senses after a beating, he often informs those present that he did not feel anything, and that they (i.e., the blows) did not have any effect on his body. Even when some are struck over three or four hundred times with severe blows on their feet, the effects of which would normally kill a man, only the jinn feel it. The jinn will scream and yell and inform those present about many things. We have ourselves experienced such cases in the presence of crowds on so many occasions that it would take a long time to describe them all.[75] Ibn Taymeeyah’s student, Ibn al-Qayyim, described an exorcism performed by his mentor in which he struck the patient. He said, Often the shaykh (i.e., Ibn Taymeeyah) would recite in the ear of the insane, “Afa hasibtum annamaa khalaqnaakum ‘abathan wa annakum ilaynaa laa turja‘oon.” (“Do you imagine that We created you in jest and that you will not return to Us?”)[76] He told me that on one occasion he read this verse in a madman’s ear and the possessing spirit replied in a drawn-out voice, “Ye-e-e-e-s.” So he took a stick and beat the man on the veins of his neck until Ibn Taymeeyah’s arm became fatigued from hitting him and those present were sure that that man was dead from the beating. During the beating the jinnee cried out, “I love him.” The shaykh said, “He does not love you.” It said, “I want to make hajj with him.” He replied, “He does not want to make hajj with you.” It said, “I will leave him in your honor.” He replied, “No, do so in obedience to Allaah and His Messenger.” It said, “Then I will leave him.” The madman sat up, looked left and right and said, “Why did I come to the honorable shaykh?” Those present said to him, “What about all of the beating you have received?” he asked, “Why would the shaykh beat me when I have not committed any sin?” He was not at all aware that he had been beaten.[77] The practice of beating was attributed to Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) in a narration related by Umm Abaan from her father, al-Waazi‘, that her grandfather, az-Zaari‘ ibn ‘Aamir al-‘Abdee, went to Allaah’s Messenger (pbuh) with his son (or nephew) who was insane. She reported that her grandfather said, When we reached Allaah’s Messenger (pbuh) I said, “I have a son [or nephew] with me who is insane. I have brought him to you so that you may pray to Allaah on his behalf.” He said, “Bring him to me.” So I went to get him from the group of riding animals [among which I had left him]. I took off his traveling clothes and dressed him in his good clothes. I then took him by the hand back to the Messenger of Allaah (pbuh). He said, “Bring him closer to me and turn his back to me.” He then grabbed the boy’s garment and began to beat him on the back so vigorously that I saw the whiteness of his (i.e., the Prophet’s) armpits. While doing so, he said, “Get out, enemy of Allaah! Enemy of Allaah, get out!” The boy then began to gaze in a healthy manner quite different from his earlier gaze. Allaah’s Messenger (pbuh) then sat him down directly in front of him, called for some water for him and wiped his face. Then he prayed for him. After the Messenger of Allaah had prayed for him, there was no one in the delegation better than him.”[78] This narration is weak, however there is an authentic narration in this regard collected by Ibn Maajah: “When the Messenger of Allaah appointed me as governor of at-Taa’if, something began to appear to me in my salaah so that I wouldn’t know how many rak‘aahs I had prayed. When I noticed that, I traveled to the Messenger of Allaah (pbuh). He said, ‘Ibn Abee al-‘Aas?’ I said ‘Yes, O Messenger of Allaah.’ He said, ‘What brings you here?’ I said, ‘O Messenger of Allaah, something appears to me in my salaah, so that I don’t know how many rak‘aahs I have prayed.’ He said, ‘Come close.’ So I came close to him and sat on the

soles of my feet. He struck my chest with his hand, blew into my mouth and said, ‘Get out, Enemy of Allaah!’ He did that three times, then said, ‘Resume your duty.’ After that, I swear I was never confused [in my salaah].”[79] Notes: [23] Zaad al-Ma‘aad, p. 69. Aayah al-Kursee literally means “Verse of the Footstool.” Prophet Muhammad (S) declared it to be the greatest verse of the Qur’aan relative to man. Ubayy ibn Ka‘b said, “Allaah’s Messenger ( ) asked me, ‘O Abdul-Mundhir, do you know which verse of Allaah’s Book is the greatest relative to you?’ I replied, ‘Allaah, there is no god but He. the Living, the Eternal.’ Thereupon he patted my chest and said, ‘May knowledge always be pleasant for you, O AbdulMundhir!’ ” (Sahih Muslim, vol. 2, p. 387, no. 1768.) The full text of the verse is as follows: “Allaah, there is no god but He, the Living, the Eternal. Neither drowsiness nor sleep overtakes Him. All that is in the heavens and earth belong to Him. Who can intercede [on behalf of others] to Him except by His permission? He knows what is in front of them and what is behind them. They will not grasp any of His knowledge, except what He wills. His footstool extends over the heavens and earth, and He is not made tired by governing them (i.e., the heavens and earth). He is Transcendent, the Magnificent.” [41] Compulsory charity given in the form of foodstuff at the end of the annual month of fasting, Ramadaan, and distributed among the poorest members of society. Spiritual Warfare Prayer IV Stop. If you have not read Spiritual Warfare Prayer Ruqyah I, Spiritual Warfare Prayer Ruqyah II or Spiritual Warfare Prayer Ruqyah III please go back and read them in order so that you can fully understand this vast subject. This is the end of this four part series. In the beginning section we will observe the world wide epidemic of victims of exorcism or witchcraft. I will systematicaly list the symptoms observed by scholars who have personally witnessed cases of possession, sihr (magic), envy and evil eye. I will than give Islamically legal formuals and incantations of supplications to Allah and Quranic text for performing Spiritual Warfare Prayer or known as Ruqyah, insh Allah. Worldwide Victims of Exorcism or Witchcraft Last month in the city of Milwaukee, an autistic American boy has died during an aggressive exorcist ceremony held by members of the Faith Temple Church to supposedly cure him of the evil spirits. Those involved in the ceremony, were arrested shortly after the incident on suspicion of physically abusing the child. In January 2003, a Japanese exorcist has been arrested along with his eight "disciples" on suspicion of fraud, after taking millions of yens in fees for performing exorcism rites on the public. A 1991 exorcism in Florida of a young girl was filmed for US network television. Media reports say that in other countries such as Greenland and Swaziland, top civil servants used exorcists

to chase away evil spirits in government offices and promote better harmony between the employees. These incidents had prompted local indignation. Despite the advances in science and psychiatry, magical rites or exorcism is actually more popular in many countries and the exorcists have a strong International Association. It is believed that spirits or demons cause mental illness and thus the mentally ill persons become the objects of beatings, restraint, and starvation-of the victim to drive the evil spirits out, instead of receiving care from physicians. So many fraudsters claim to have psychic power and cheat the victims and their families. It is reported that Pope John Paul II himself performed exorcism during his papacy. The boom in new religions and the growth in spiritual confusion are being blamed for the rising tide of exorcisms or witchcraft being performed around the world without distinction between cases of mental illness and demonic influence. Historical background Many religions in various parts of the world continue the practice of exorcism. In the Christian and Jewish traditions, exorcism is an adjuration addressed to demons or evil spirits to force them to abandon a possessed object, place, or person; technically, a ceremony used in religious traditions to expel demons from persons who have come under their power. In general, the term exorcism denotes prayers to "curb the power of the devil and prevent him from doing harm." It is written in Holy Scripture, "your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, goeth about seeking whom he may devour." (1 St.Peter 5,8) The rites and practices to ward off or to expel evil spirits are also a form of exorcism. In the Roman Catholic Church, exorcism is an order that priests may practice with special permission. It is mainly used as a preparation for the sacrament of baptism. This practice is usually performed by a priest, shaman or a person with special religious authority, with a Bishop's permission. The Bible includes a number of references to demons and exorcism. The New Testament describes occasions when Jesus Christ expelled demons and evil spirits by prayer and the power of his command. His followers and others as well, drove out demons "in his name." In the first two centuries of the Christian era, the power of exorcism was considered a special gift that might be bestowed on anyone, lay or cleric. About AD 250, however, there appeared a special class of the lower clergy, called exorcists, to whom was entrusted this special function. About the same time, exorcism became one of the ceremonies preparatory to baptism, and it has remained a part of the Roman Catholic baptismal service. The exorcism of persons possessed by demons is carefully regulated by canon law in the Roman Catholic Church, and the elaborate rite is contained in the Roman ritual. Exorcism Today The leading Christian exorcist Father Jeremy Davies, from the Westminster Diocese, believes that the incidence of the demonic influence on the whole is rising. To cope with the modern rise in demonic influences, more exorcisms need to be performed and thus the Vatican is promoting greater distribution of its new manual on exorcism.

In Britain, each Catholic diocese has an exorcist, but they are forbidden to speak publicly about the ritual and are rarely identified. One new rule by the Vatican is to ban media coverage of exorcisms. The Japanese exorcist is suspected of charging more than 1,000 people between 30,000 and 1 million yen (253-8,449 dollars) for an exorcism. Most of the victims were believed to be women in their 20s or 30s, the Daily Yomiuri said. The group allegedly operated in the Tokyo area, as well as in Nagoya, Osaka and Kanagawa prefecture. In January 2003, in Greenland there was a row over a top Greenland civil servant who used an exorcist to chase away evil spirits in government offices. Jens Lyberth, the home rule government's newly appointed manager, also urged nearly 600 civil servants to use similar spiritual healing methods in an attempt to promote better harmony between them. The healer told Greenland Radio that she "contributed to restoring the respect for the special Greenland spirit that has been suppressed for too long". A church pastor in Swaziland has performed a ceremony to cleanse the offices of Swaziland's government officials. Reverend Advent Dlamini, performed the rituals by reading out biblical verses condemning devilish activities in the office in front of journalists and the entire staff. New Guidelines In January 1999, the Roman Catholic Church has revised its exorcism rituals for the first time in nearly 400 years. Pope John Paul II himself has approved the guidelines for deciding when and how to perform exorcisms, last issued in 1614. Except for some new formulas for priests authorised by bishops to read during exorcisms, the text is largely unchanged. What is new is the caution that determines if exorcism is warranted. "The exorcist will decide with prudence" after consulting with spiritual experts and "if considered opportune, with experts in medical and psychiatric science," the new rules stress. The rite of official Roman Catholic exorcism itself remains essentially the same, including making the sign of the cross, sprinkling holy water and ordering the devil to leave the possessed person. People convinced they are victims of the "evil eye" and other curses do not need exorcisms, say the rules, but special prayers are suggested. In November 2000, the Catholic Church has issued strict new rules governing exorcism. Vatican insiders say the guidelines - which include getting permission from a bishop, and discouraging media coverage - are aimed at controlling a popular African bishop who lives in Rome. Emmanuel Milingo was summoned to Rome 18 years ago from his native Zambia when European missionaries complained that he was using the practices of African witchdoctors. The Vatican believed it could keep a closer eye on Archbishop Milingo there, and put him in a flat next door to the Apostolic Palace. But exorcism has gained him a wide following in Europe. Vatican attempts to ban him from preaching in Rome and Milan have merely led him to hold masses elsewhere.

The "instruction" from the Vatican says that it is legitimate to pray for relief from suffering, but says that exorcisms must be carried out according to the letter of the law laid down in 1999 - the first update of the exorcism service since 1614. The new guidelines say the atmosphere at exorcisms must be kept under control. "Anything resembling hysteria, artificiality, theatricality or sensationalism should be absent from such gatherings, above all on the part of those who are in charge," one said. It is reported that Pope John Paul II himself once performed exorcism during his papacy. The Italian news agency ANSA said he carried out the rite in 1982, driving out the devil from a woman who was brought to him. Father Davies, a former doctor and a co-founder of the 200-strong International Association of Exorcists, warned there was a tendency in the West to mistake the spiritual for the psychological. This, he said, was opposed to the African continent where the reverse was true. The 1998 manual, which replaces the one in use since 1624, was translated from Latin for distribution to bishops and exorcists around the world. The 90-page ritual, entitled (On Every Kind of Exorcism in Supplication) encourages priests to spend more time in prayer with the possessed person. A Vatican commission of theologians and liturgists has been working on the manual for the past 20 years. It retains much of the symbolism of the original, but tones down the most aggressive imprecations against the devil. This article is from www.islamweb.net I have started out with this article to show the importance and need for proper knowledge of Ruqyah to be spread out around the world by the will of Allah. Regarding how sihr begins to take effect on victims: In Sword against Black Magic and Evil Magicians, Wahid Abdussalam Bali goes on to say, "The agreement between a Sahir (magician) and a Demon In most cases, an agreement is set up between a sahir (magician) and a demon, requiring that the former commit certain pagan rituals, wether secretly or openly, and the latter provide the services he needs or send someone to do the job. Usually the agreement is set up between a sahir and one of the chiefs of the tribe of the jinn and demons. The chief instructs one of the tribes disrespectful demons to work for the sahir, obeying it's orders and informing him of past events, causing seperation of a man from his wife, a love spell between two people, making someone incompetent and other conditions. Distinctive Features of A Sahir's Work If you find one of these following charcteristics in a person who treats people suffering from sihr or other relate illnesses, then this person is definetly a sahir (magician). 1.) He asks the patient his and his mother's names. 2.) He takes a sweaty garment from the patient (a piece of cloth, hat ect..)

3.) He sometimes asks for an animal, with certain specifications, in order to slaughter it without saying the name of Allah. He may use the sacrificial blood to stain some painful areas of the patient, or throw the carcass in on a ruined site. 4.) He writes incantations. 5.) He recites unclear incantations 6.) He gives the patient a hijab (incantation written on a piece of paper), which contains squares within which letters or figures are written. 7.) He instructs the patient to isolate himself/herself in a dark room and to not talk to people for a certain period of time. 8.) He sometimes instructs the patient to not touch water for a certain period of time, usually forty days. This indicates the this particular jinn working for the sahir is Christian. 9.) He gives the patient some items to bury in the ground. 10.) He gives the patient some pieces of paper to burn to use as incens for their body. 11.) He murmurs unclear words. 12.) He sometimes informs the patient his name, his town and the reason for his visit. 13.) He writes broken letters on a piece of paper (hijab) or on a plate made of white porcelain, and instructs the patient to dissolve the writing in water, and then drink it." Shaykh Sulaymaan al-‘Alwaan (www.islam-qa.com) had this to say about practioners of magic: " Magic in all its forms in haraam according to all divinely-revealed laws, and there is scholarly consensus that magic and learning magic are haraam. Magic goes against that which the Messengers brought and it opposes the purpose for which the Books were revealed. Most of the scholars were of the view that the one who practices magic is a kaafir whom the authorities are obliged to execute. but neither of these two (angels) taught anyone (such things) till they had said, ‘We are for trial, so” “‘(disbelieve not (by learning this magic from us [Quran al-Baqarah 2:102] .(This proves that magic is kufr (disbelief Once it is proven that a person is guilty of practicing magic, then he must be killed. This was proven from a group of the Sahaabah, but it is not for individuals to carry out this hadd punishment without the command of the ruler or his deputy, because carrying out the hadd punishments without the authority of the ruler may .lead to mischief, and destroy any sense of security in the society, and undermine the position of the ruler Magic In The Exorcist Tradition, Bilal Phililps Real Magic is the product of satanic intervention. Both the acts of magic and the effects of spells on humans involve the agency of jinn. Al-Aaloosee addressed the issue saying, saying, " What is meant by magic is an

act which resembles a miracle but is not, because it (magic) is learned. And in order to perform it, the help of the devil is sought by pleasing him with abominable acts. [These acts may be in the form of ] statements, like incantations containig phrases of shirk (polytheism) and praises of satan; acts like acts, like planet worship, and an adherence of crime and licentiousness;and beliefs, like the preference and love of whatever is neccessary to please [the devil]. " [ Rooh al-Ma'aanee, vol.1, p.338.] ll Dr. Umar al-Ashqar explicitly stated, "Real magic is that in which the magician relies upon the devil. Our (Rubb) Lord, whose knowledge encompasses all things , has informed us that it was the devils :who who taught mankind magic And they followed what the devils used to read during the rule of Sulaiman(Solomon - peace and blessings ' be upon him); and Sulaiman did not disbelieve, but the devils disbelieved - they teach people magic; and that which was sent down to the two angels, Harut and Marut in Babylon; and the two (angels) never taught a thing to anyone until they used to say, "We are only a trial, therefore do not lose your faith" and they used to learn that by which they cause division between man and his wife; and they cannot harm anyone by it except by Allah’s command; and they learn what will harm them, not benefit them; and surely they know that whoever bargains for this will not have a share in the Hereafter; and for what an abject thing they have sold themselves; if only they knew!" [Quran 2:102] e A good example of the relationship of magic to possession can also be seen in the incident in which 'Abdulla ibn Mas'ud found his wife wearing a knotted cord necklace and asked her about its purpose. She informed him that it was given to by a Jewish magician and that a spell had been placed on it to stop her eye from discharging, which it did. Ibn ' Mas'ud snatched it from her neck, told her it was caused by a jinnee, who desisted when the spell was placed on her." [See Sunan Dawud, vol.3, p. 1089, no.3874] j Symptoms of Magic for Seperation of two people A sudden change from love to hate A great deal of suspicion is aroused by between the two parties concerned No excuses are accepted by either party even if one of them is in the wrong Exaggerating the causes of disputes between two people even if they may be\ trivial Changing the mental image of that they have for each other so that they see the other one in an ugly way even even though the other one might be beautiful. in reality it is the demon who is entrusted with the task of performing this type of sihar is the one who would appear to the person as the other in a ugly way The person affected by sihar hates anything that the other person does The person affected by sihar also hates the place in which the other party stays. For instance, a husband may be in a good mood when he is out doors but when he gets home he feels quite depressed According to Ibn Kathir, the cause of seperation between two spouses through this sihr is that each of them appears to the other as an ugly or ill mannered person. The Evil Eye A part of Islamic traditional belief is the concept of a type of glance capable of casing harm to those whom it befalls. Ibn Abaas reported the Prophet

Exorcisms Fatwa Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet .Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions We ask Allah to cure you and protect you from all misfortunes. We emphasize on seeking help from Allah and having unshakable trust in Him, He is the Best Protector and Most Merciful. Allah Says (interpretation of meaning): {Is not Allah Sufficient for His slave?}[39:36]. He also Says: {And if Allah touches you with harm, none can remove it but He, and if He touches you with good, then He is Able to do all things.}[6:17]. Allah also Says: {And He will provide him from (sources) he never could imagine. And .[whosoever puts his trust in Allah, then He will suffice him.}[65:3 What you are enduring may be due to magic or evil eye or influence of jinn or merely a physical disease or complex thoughts etc. However, regardless of what it is, we would like to give you some guidelines that .are useful in the case of magic, evil eye or epilepsy First, give up all kinds of complex thoughts and delusions. They strike one only when his faith is distorted, or when he fails to have the strong trust in Allah, and does not have the sufficient knowledge of Shariah. Ibn Qayyim said: A bewitched person brings harm for himself because he gets attracted by something and .heeds to it thus it overrides his heart due to his deep love and attraction Second, using the legal incantations i.e. the verses of Qur'an and Prophetic supplications. Ibn al-Qayyim said: Among the Shariah incantations; frequently reciting the Mu'awwazatain (last two chapters from Qur'an), Surah al-Fatihah, Ayah al-Kursi and the supplications that are reported from the Prophet (Salla Allahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) such as "A'uzhu Bi Kalimati Allahit Tammati Min Sharri Ma Khalaq". (I seek .("refuge in the Perfect Words of Allah from the evil of what He has created And "A'uzhu Bi Kalimati Allahit Tammati Min Kulli Shaitanin Wa Hammatin Wa Min Kulli Aynin Laammtin". (I seek protection with Allah's perfect words from every Satan and crawling creature and .('.every evil eye Anyone who keeps on reciting the above supplications knows their benefits and even recognizes how .badly a Muslim is in need of those supplications In addition, one should bear in mind that the supplications are like a weapon which itself cannot bring any benefit rather the benefits depend on its user, how effectively he uses the weapon. Therefore, one should supplicate using the authentic supplications properly i.e. the heart should act in accordance with the tongue .besides having strong faith in Allah Third, reciting Qur'an, and authentic supplications upon the affected person could dispel the effect of .magic and evil eye Fourth, avoiding to become entrapped by jugglers and magicians who take away peoples' money wrongfully. Ahmad narrated that the Prophet said: Whoever goes to a soothsayer or a fortune-teller and

.(believes him he has disbelieved in what was revealed to Muhammad (Peace and blessing be upon him Fifth, being steadfast on the path of Shariah internally and externally. The Prophet (Salla Allahu Alaihi Wa [ Sallam) said: Do not go beyond the limits of Allah, Allah will protect you… [ al-Tirmizi Ibn al-Qayyim said: Most of the time evil Jinn affect only due to lack of sound Islamic knowledge and .ruination of hearts He also quoted from some Salaf as saying: If a heart is full of the remembrance of Allah and Satan comes near to such heart, he (the person) will strike down the Satan. The other Satans will come to their defeated .fellow and ask about what happened to him? It will be said that the human being has affected him So, a Mumin overcomes a Satan with his strong faith as reported in Musnad Ahmad that the Prophet (Salla .Allahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) said: A Mumin emaciates his Satan as you emaciate your riding camel Know that the conspiracy of Satan is very weak; nothing will befall you except what had already been decreed by Allah. So, by being steadfast on the path of Shariah, following the rulings of Shariah and .avoiding the prohibitions you may protect yourself from Satans of Jinn as well as those of human beings .Allah knows best just wanted to inquire about the cures for magic or jinn possessions. I will post some symptoms of the person concerned .sudden loss of interest in socializing, even with very close relatives * .unexplained physical and mental pressures when reciting the Qur'aan or the kalima or namaz * nervousness of being with people or looking at people, this could be explained as lack of confidence but * it is not, the person concerned is quiet confident. Another sign is that other people that come in contact .with that person become nervous which can be detected from their appearance sudden significant DECREASE IN MEMORY, even though the person concerned has had very good * memory in the past and has won prizes in Qur'aan memorization competitions and he is just a teenager to .have brain diseases such as Alzheimer all these symptoms have started quite at the same time about 2-3 years a go and has worsen since (except * .(the memory problem which started in the last 15 months his fathers family have contacts with people that practice magic and the person concerned has no good * .relations with his father and his relatives I would really thank u for your input on whether this might be caused form magic or jinn possession (or .not), and if it is, the possible cures for them Fatwa All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger, may Allaah exalt his mention as well as .that of his family and all his companions

The symptoms that you had mentioned about the patient like neglecting to socialize with people, mental and physical pressures when reading the Qur'aan, getting nervous when being with people or looking at them, sudden loss of memory, and the fact that the people who get near to him or deal with him get nervous as well, and so forth, are more likely to be magic rather than being possessed by Jinn. No matter

what the condition is, the cure is in the Book of Allaah. Allaah says (interpretation of meaning): {And We send down from the Qur'aan that which is a healing and a mercy to those who believe (in Islaamic .[Monotheism and act on it).}[17:82 It is also reported that the Prophet, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam, used to make Ruqyah (to read some Qur’aanic verses and prophetic supplication) by reading chapters number: 112, 113, and 114. The Prophet, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam, said: "These chapters are the best for seeking refuge in Allaah." [Muslim] A treatment for magic is to read the verses in which magic is mentioned or have someone read over the patient, like the saying of Allaah (interpretation of meaning): {Then when they had cast down, Moosaa (Moses) said: "What you have brought is sorcery, Allaah will surely make it of no effect. Verily, Allaah does not set right the work of Al-Mufsidoon (the evil-doers, corrupts, etc.)}[10:81]. One can also protect himself by the legislated mention of Allaah, like the designated remembrance of the morning and the evening, and by being in a state of ablution all the time. Another method of treatment for the patient is to read or have someone read for him the verses of the Qur'aan on water and oil, like reading the beginning of .[chapter As-Saaffaat [37] and the Ad-Dukhaan [44 :In addition to this, one can seek refuge in Allaah by saying the following supplications I commend you to the protection of Allaah's perfect words from every devil, vermin and every evil eye."," "I take refuge in Allaah's perfect words from the evil He has created.", "In the Name of Allaah with whose name nothing is harmed on Earth nor in the heavens and He is the Samee' (The All-Hearing), the Al-'Aleem (The All-Knowing)". One should read each of the above supplications three times then blow on the water and olive oil. The patient should drink the water and massage his body with it (or have someone massage him). But the patient should believe that the cure is from Allaah and that the treatment is .beneficial only with the Will of Allaah This person has to repent to Allaah about the bad relations with his father. It could be that what had happened to him was due to bad relations with his father. The family of the patient has to cut relations with the people who practise magic, as magic is one of the seven destructive great major sins. Indeed it is .forbidden to go to magicians as this is considered one of the greatest major sins The Prophet, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam, said: "A person who goes to a soothsayer or magician or diviner and asks him (about something) and believes his sayings, he has indeed disbelieved in what has been revealed to Muhammad, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam (i.e. the Message of Islaam.)." [Al-Bayhaqi and Abu [Ya’laa

.Allaah knows best I have a friend who is suffering from witchcraft/magic/Jinn. A Sheik have been reading Qur'an on him for 4 months now and everyday a number of Jinn come out of him but till now he is not cured. What is to be ?done for him Fatwa Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the World; and blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and .upon all his Family and Companions ,Dear Brother .We ask Allah to cure your friend and protect him and us from evil Jinn and human beings .We advise you to continue reciting Qur'an upon that person since Allah cures people through the Qur'an :For more details, please read to Fatwa .and 547 523 ,439 .Allah knows best Assellem 'alaykom wa rahmatoullahi wa barakatou dear brother, my question is about the leaf of sidr (treatment of sihr). I would like to know how to use it exactly please. Such can we use it as an infusion like tea etc. Barakallahou fikoum for your help. May ALLAH bless you. Assellem 'alaykom wa rahmatoullahi wa barakatou Fatwa Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and .upon all his Family and Companions Imam Ibn Hajar reported in his book "al-Fath" from Wahab Bin Munaabbih the way of using leaves of Sidr (Lotus jujube) as a remedy to get rid of the witch. He said: 'One should take seven leaves of green Lotus jujube, grind them between two stones, put the stones and the leaves in some water. Then take out the two stones. Having done so, one recites the verses of Kursi, (2:255) and the last three Surah (chapters) of the Qur'an (112,113,114). After that, one drinks three sips of that water and showers himself with what remains from it. One will - Insha Allah - feel delighted of what he had. This is particularly useful for the .man who has been withheld from his wife .Allah knows best I am a good educated girl. al hamdulilaah. but I heard that some of the bad people I know some bad people of low educational status who are doing what we call siher, amal, shawatha, going to a witch or someone to do me harm by that sihir. I know it is Haram to go to witches to deactivate this Siher. What can I do? Do I go to a Shaikh to read Qur'an on me or what ? Please inform me about this. Thank you so much for this .great site Fatwa Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and .upon all his Family and Companions Dear sister, At first, it is badly needed to state that magic is made up of blowing on knots, incantations and secret plotting - in written or spoken forms. For sure, it produces an effect on the bewitched one's mind, heart or even body, but by Allah's will. Allah Says in the Holy Qur'an (Interpretation of meaning): {But they could not thus harm anyone except by Allah's permission}.[2:102] Without a doubt, magic is not only Haram (forbidden), but also one of the seven grave sins. The Beloved Prophet (Blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: "Avoid the seven grave sins. The companions asked: O Messenger of Allah! What are these grave sins? He answered: Making anybody or anything as partner with Allah; practising magic; killing without justification a living being whose like has been declared sacred by Allah; practising usury; misappropriating the property of an orphan, running away during the battle and slandering chaste, innocent believing woman" . Bukhari and Muslim. One is liable to be affected with magic. He may know of being bewitched, but can not find out reasons, except feeling some changes in his behaviour or nature.

So, treatment can be achieved via: (1) bringing the magic out, or (2) reciting some specific passages of the Holy Qur'an on a vessel of water and then, drinking from the vessel and showering oneself. These passages :comprise al-Fatiha or Sura 1. 2 :Sura 2: verse 255. 3 :Sura 2: verses 285-286. 4 :Suras 113-114. 5 :Sura 7: verses: 1 18-122. 6 :Sura 10: verses 80-82. 7 :Sura 20: verse 69. In addition to that, one has to do good actions regularly, avoid evil and forbidden things and remember Allah much, especially by repeating the known .forms of remembrance specific to the morning and evening in their specific times. Spiritual Warfare Prayer Ruqyah III Stop. If you have not read Spiritual Warfare Prayer I and/or Spiritual Warfare Prayer II yet please go back and read them. This is the third of a four part series.

As you read Spiritual Warfare Prayer II you learned about Satans hatred for mankind and many of his devious ways and tricks. It is very important to understand how to be close to the only God whose name is Allah, to worship him at all times and to stay away from that which he has forbidden to protect our selves from the evil plots of satan. It is detrimental to the well being of the Muslims heart that we adhere to the sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (saw) correctly and follow all of his righteous and blessed advice; this is especially true when it comes to daily supplications and thikr of Allah Ta'ala. Allah says in interpretation of Quran: "Therefore remember me, and I will remember you. Be grateful to Me and never show me ingratitude" Quran 2:152 "Verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest." Quran 3:134 "And the men and women who remember Allah frequently, Allah has prepared for them forgiveness and a great reward." Quran 33:35 "Whoever sits and does not mention the name of Allah (before he rises) will find it a cause of sorrow from Allah. Whoever lies down to to sleep and does not mention the name of Allah before rising will find it a cause of sorrow from Allah." hadith Abu Dawud 4/264 "Or do you think you will enter Paradise without such (trials) as came to those who passed before you? They were afflicted with severe poverty, ailments and were shaken." Quran 2:214 How to get up and Pray on time by the permission of Allah Prayer if done correctly can be a shield for us from hell fire and shaitans plots. it is very important that we oblige by Allah rules and laws as they are to grant ease for us in this life and the next from hardship. In www.islamweb.net, #7043 the students of knowledge had this to say: "It is a bad deed of a worshipper to think about worldly matters while he/she is prayer saying: "You alone we worship, and You alone we seek for help". (www.islamweb.net) "Fajr prayer is of great importance in the sight of Allah, as well as all other obligatory prayers. Allah says: "Perform As-Salat (Iqamât-as salat) from mid-day till the darkness of the night (i.e. the Zuhr, 'Asr, Maghrib, and 'Isha' prayers), and recite the Qur'an in the early dawn (i.e. the Morning Prayer). Verily, the recitation of the Qur'an in the early dawn is ever witnessed (attended by the angels in charge of mankind of the day and the night)"(Al-Isra 17:78), i.e. it is witnessed by the angels of the night and the angels of the day.

The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) said: "Congregational prayers are 25 times better than individual prayers, and the angels of the night and those of the day meet at Fajr prayer." Reported byAl-Bukhari. What also proves that Fajr prayer is important is that the prophet considered missing Fajr prayer in congregation a sign of hypocrisy. The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) said: "There is no prayers more difficult for hypocrites (to perform) than al-Fajr and al-Isha. But had they known what is in them (the great reward of these prayers) they would have come to them (these two prayers) even crawling (if they cannot walk)." Reported by AlBukhari. So Fajr prayer is of great importance and you have to take the following means to wake up to perform it on time: 1.

To sleep early.

2.

To recite the remembrance of Allah when going to bed, and to sleep after performing a Wudu.

3.

To set the alarm clock on the appropriate time.

4.

To ask a person who prays Fajr on time to wake you up, either a member of your family or a friend by telephoning you.

5.

Not to get exhausted by doing hard work.

6.

To supplicate Allah as much as you can to enable you to wake up on time.

If you take all the above measures, you will InshaAllah wake up and pray on time." www.islamweb.net #7043 The Five Levels of Prayer Ibn al-Qayyim writes in his book al-Wabil al-Sayyib: ·

The first is the level of the one who wrongs himself and is negligent. He does not do wudu properly, or pray at the right time or make sure he does all the necessary parts of prayer.

·

The second is one who observes the outward essentials of prayer, prays on time and does wudu, but he has lost the battle against his own self and is overwhelmed with waswaas (insinuations).

·

The third is one who observes the outward essentials of prayer, prays on time and does wudu, and also strives against his own self and against waswaas, but he is preoccupied with his struggle against his enemy (Shaytan), lest he steal from his prayer, so he is engaged in salah and jihad at the same time.

·

The fourth is one who when he stands up to pray, he fulfils all the requirements of the prayer, and his heart is fully focused and alert lest he omit anything, and his concern is to do the prayer properly and perfectly. His heart is deeply immersed in his prayer and worship of his Lord.

·

The fifth is one who does all of that, but he takes his heart and places it before his Lord, looking at his Lord with his heart and focusing on Him, filled with love and adoration, as if he is actually seeing Him. That waswaas and those thoughts diminish, and the barriers between him and his Lord are lifted. The difference between the prayer of this person and the prayer of anyone is else is greater than the difference between heaven and earth. When this person prays, he is preoccupied with his Lord and content with Him.

The first type is punishable; the second is accountable; the third is striving so he is not counted as a sinner; the fourth is rewarded and the fifth is drawn close to his Lord, because he is one of those for whom prayer is a source of joy. Whoever finds their joy in prayer in this life, will find their joy in being close to Allah in the Hereafter, and will also find his joy in Allah in this world. Whoever finds his joy in Allah will be content with everything, and whoever does not find his joy in Allah, will be destroyed by his feelings of grief and regret for worldly matters." It is important that as a Musim you fulfil you obligations of doing morning and evening supplications to make sure that you are properly praising Allah and protecting your self from harm by the permission of Allah. Among the means of treating ailments: the saheeh haseeth narrated from Ibn Mas’ood (may Allaah be pleased with him): “There is no believer who is stricken by anxiety, distress or grief, and he says, ‘Allaahumma inni ‘abduka ibnu ‘abdika ibnu amatika, naasiyati bi yadika, maadin fiyya hukmuka, ‘adlun fiyya qadaa’uka, as’aluka bi kulli ismin huwa laka sammayta bihi nafsaka aw ‘allamtahu ahadan min khalqika aw anzaltahu fi kitaabika aw asta’tharta bihi fi ‘ilm il-ghaybi ‘indaka an taj’ala al-Qur’aan al-‘azeem rabee’a qalbi wa noora sadri wa jalaa’a huzni wa dhahaaba hammi wa ghammi (O Allaah, I am Your slave, son of Your slave, son of Your maidservant. My forelock is in Your hand, Your command over me is forever executed and Your decree over me is just. I ask You by every name belonging to You which You have named Yourself with, or taught to any of Your creation, or revealed in Your Book, or You have preserved in the knowledge of the Unseen with You, that You make the Holy Qur’aan the life of my heart and the light of my breast, and a departure for my sorrow and a release for my anxiety and distress)’, but Allaah will relieve him.” This is one of the medicines prescribed in sharee’ah. Similarly, one may say, “Laa ilaaha illa anta, subhaanaka, inni kuntu min al-zaalimeen (none has the right to be worshipped but You (O Allaah), Glorified (and Exalted) be You [above all that (evil) they associate with You]! Truly, I have been of the wrongdoers)” [cf. al-Anbiyaa’ 21:87]

If you want to know more, please refer to the writings of the scholars on the topic of adhkaar (dhikr, remembering Allaah), such as al-Waabil al-Sayyib by Ibn al-Qayyim, al-Karim al-Tayyib by Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, al-Adhkaar by al-Nawawi, and Zaad al-Ma’aad, by Ibn al-Qayyim. But when faith grows weak, the soul’s acceptance of remedies prescribed in sharee’ah also grows weak. People nowadays have begun to rely on physical medicines of U.S Doctors as well as new age medicine that consists of different mixes of plants and herbs, more than on the spiritual remedies prescribed in Islam. But when faith is strong, the spiritual remedies prescribed in Islam have a more complete effect; their effect may be faster than that of physical medicines. We are all aware of the story of the man whom the Messenger SAWS (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) sent on a campaign. He camped near some Arabs, but those people near whom he camped did not show him any hospitality. Allaah willed that their chief should be stung by a snake, and they said to one another, “Go to those people who are camped (near us), maybe you will find a raaqi (one who recites ruqyah, i.e., incantations or prayers for healing) with them.” The Sahaabah said to them, “We will not recite ruqyah for your chief until you give us such and such number of sheep.” They said, “We agree.” Then one of the Sahaabah went and recited over the one who had been stung; he recited Soorat al-Faatihah only, then that person who had been stung got up as if he was released from a chain. This recitation of al-Faatihah had such an effect in this man because it came from a heart that was filled with faith. When they came back, the Prophet SAWS (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, “How didyou know that it is a ruqyah?” But in our own times there is this weakness of religious commitment and faith, and people have started to rely on outward physical matters, and this is causing them further suffering. Sometimes it is the body that has told a lie not that the ruqya has not worked. One hadeeth, reported by Bukhari, states that a man came to the Prophet (SAWS) because his brother had a stomach disorder. The Prophet said, "Let him drink honey." The man returned a second time and again the Prophet (SAWS) responded again, "Let him drink honey." The man returned again, and said, "I have done that." The Prophet then responded, "Allah has said the truth, butyour brother's stomach has tolda lie. Let him drink honey." He drank it and was cured. On the other hand there are those who cheat people and deceive them, claiming to be pious reciters of Qur’aan, but they consume people’s wealth unlawfully. People are of two extremes, one which thinks that recitation of Qur’aan has no effect at all, and the other extreme composed of cheaters who deceive people by reciting devious recitations, and some are moderate. Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen, Fataawa Islamiyyah, 4/465, 466 But as there is no contradiction between using permissible physical medicines as prescribed by doctors and using spiritual medicines such as ruqyah and seeking refuge with Allaah and other du’aa’s that are proven in sound reports, the two may be combined, as the Prophet SAWS (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) did. It was proven that he used both kinds of treatment, and he said, “Strive to pursue that which will benefit you and seek refuge with Allaah, and do not feel helpless.” And he said: “Seek treatment, O slaves of Allaah, but do not seek treatment with things which are haraam.” Six-Remembrance of Allah & Recitation of the Qur'an Send not away those who call on their Lord in the morning and the evening --< So remember Me-I will remember you. (Quran 2:152)-->

Even if this were the only reward for the remembrance of Allah, it would be mercy and honour enough, for such a heart is always aware and free from wrong actions. Although remembrance is one of the easiest forms of worship, the mercy and honour that it brings cannot be acheived by any other means. Abu Huraira reported that the Prophet *saaws* said, "Whoever recites the words, "There is no god but Allah, the One, having no partner with Him. Sovereignty belongs to Him and All praise is due to Him, and He is Powerful over everything', one hundred times every day, there is a reward equal to freeing ten slaves for him, and a hundred good actions are recorded for him, and a hundred wrong actions are removed from his record. That is a safeguard for him against shaytan on that day until evening, and no one brings anything more excellent than this, except the one who has done more than this (that is, who recites these words more than one hundred times)."1 Jabir reported that the Prophet *saaws* said, "Whoever recites the words, "Glory be to Allah and His is the praise', will have a palm tree planted for him in the Garden."2 Ibn Mas'ud, may Allah be pleased with him, said, "To Praise Allah, may He be Exalted, is more dear to me than spending the same number of dinars (as the number of times I praise Him) in the way of Allah." Remembrance of Allah is a remedy for hard hearts. A man once told al-Hassan, "O Abu Sa'id, I complain to you about the hardness of my heart." He said, "Soften it with the remembrance of Allah." Makhul said, "Remembrance of Allah is (a sign of) health, while remembrance of people is like a disease." A man once asked Salman, "Which deeds are the best?" He said, "Haven't you read in the Qur'an: --
