1997.68.1 Delphos Dress, Mariano Fortuny, 1910-1930 Silk, silk cord, glass beads Scale: 1 box = 1" The pattern for the dress is taken with the fabric already pleated. For the true cut of the fabric, the pattern should be widened. The back neckline is indicated with a dashed line above the front neckline; the only seam is shown on the right side in the back. The top and bottom edges have a ½" hem. The neckline has a 1/16" tape inside, wrapped twice and tied off on the left side, with a bead strung on the tapes on both sides of the top opening. The eyelets over the shoulders are sewn with a matching silk thread, and cross-laced with a matching round silk cord; a glass bead is strung between the first pair of eyelets next to the neckline, and between the last pair. The ends of the cord hang next to the neckline, with beads on the ends. Seven rows of gathering stitches are indicated with dashed lines in the underarm area: these hold the shape of the pleats when the gown is worn. A loosely-woven white tape is also set in around the armscye, sewn down below the gathering stitches on the dashed line and loose over the arm, with the ends sewn into the top hem in the area of the eyelets closest to the neckline.
