OBJECTIVES AND LEARNING OUTCOMES:

The following are the objectives of this planning: 

To expose students to the basic structure of the first conditional grammatical structure through a popular pop song (motivational pre-learning).



To understand genuine English texts that contain first conditional.

At the end of this class students will:

INSTRUCTIONAL SEQUENCE Previous knowledge: This class is the follow-up to the introduction of the zero conditional. Sequence: 

Warm-up activity (5') Tell us 10 reasons all people need friends (collective)

Activity 3: Lyrics with gaps. Try to think of words that could fill the gaps. Brainstorming (6')



Teacher's instruction: explanation of the first conditional structure with the use of the first phrase from the lyrics (5')



Activity 4: listen to the song for the fourth time and try to fill in the rest of the gaps (3' 13'')

Activity 5: In pairs, finish sentences about friendship. Student A will finish the first part and Student B will finish the second part of the conditional sentence. If you ever ..., I will … Finish at least 5 sentences and write them down in your notebooks. (10')

Brainstorming, Working in pairs, Involving students with genuine popular culture material

Projector and screen, 30 lyrics with gaps fill-in sheets

The teacher will correct the written activity in the notebooks

vocabulary related to friendship, some phrasal verbs

EXPECTED OUTCOMES Transversal content:

Although the activities proposed in this class aim to be

motivational through entertainment, the theme of friendship is closely related to the civic and moral values. Fundamental capacities: Area capacities: Listening & Speaking: The entire lesson plan design relies strongly on oral comprehension (activities 1, 3 and 4) and to some extent on oral expression (warm-up, activities 2 and 5). Students interaction of a minimum quality is essential in order to accomplish the goal of the class. Reading:

perform

individual

reading

comprehension task (the lyrics with gaps sheet). Although the reading comprehension task is not an extensive one, the reading material is a genuine English text, a sample of a language used in a popular culture. Writing:

CONCLUSIONS With this proposal we aim to present some grammatical structures to the EFL students in a funny and accessible way.
