Tell me something about yourself Sample Answer: I'm James a Reliable Automotive Technician/Mechanic with 8 years plus Automotive service experience and high commitment to service, safety and productivity I am highly skilled in troubleshooting, repairing cars and trucks with hands-on experience to perform the service, diagnostics and repairs on domestic and imported automobile and trucks. 2. Why do we hire you? Sample Answer: Because I am a hardworking person and I believe that I'm the most qualified applicant for the Job, I have general knowledge and experience of different types of cars and trucks and I am all around mechanic that can do under chassis, brakes, Transmission, aircondition, engine diagnostic and repair, fuel and electrical system. And aside from that I am familiar with imported cars Like BMW and Mercedes Benz also I have experience using diagnostic computer equipment. 3. Can you tell me something about your previous job? or something about your experience? Sample Answer: I have spent five years as a Mechanic at ABC Automotive Shop for (Example) and i develop extensive skills working as Technician/Mechanic. I perform engine repair, brakes, front end steering and suspension, wheel balancing, air-conditioning, minor electrical system and I am familiar with Computerized automotive diagnostic equipment 4. Why are you interested in this job? Sample Answer: I am interested this job because I am looking for an opportunity that let me exercise my skills. Answers: Car require major maintenance every 5,000hrs or Refer to your service manual for detailed maintenance procedure. 9. Before buying a used car, what are the things that you are going to look for? Answers: When you are going to open the hood check for any burning smell, check for normal smoke and any leakage underneath the car, open the radiator cap and check for oil sludge, check the tires, steering wheels, and any liking for coolant in the radiator, etc. 10. What causes the engine to overheat? Answers: It could be in-operative cooling fan, thermostat diaphragm stuck, anti freeze need to change, restricted air flow, bad fan clutch, slipping fan belt, radiator hose damage, filter need to change for restricted air flow and the coolant is leaking 11. What is the correct voltage of voltmeter for battery? Answers: 13 volts to 14.5 volts reading of voltmeter is normal but below 13 volts there is a problem with the battery 12. How you are going to check whether the problem is from Battery or Alternator Answers: 13 volts to 14.5 volts is normal but below 13 volts there is a problem with the battery. Another way of checking alternator is by checking interior lights, usually an alternator charges your car battery when the car is on. If the interior lights come on brightly and fades away slowly, it indicates that the alternator cannot keep a charge when the car is running. It means there is a problem with the alternator. 13. What are the components of car charging system? Answers: The alternator, Battery and voltage regulator 14. Explain the difference between crankshaft and camshaft? Answers: Crankshaft is a shaft which gives an output from the engine, It is used to drive the piston from Bottom Dead Center(BDC) to Top dead center(TDC) up and down to create combustion process in the engine chamber, while the camshaft is designed to synchronizes the rotation of the crankshaft to provide power. Car Manufacturers design engines with two different configurations, single overhead camshaft SOHC or dual overhead camshaft DOHC. Most, if not all vehicles today use either

Answers: Check the Fluid level of the car like brake, steering, coolant, engine and transmission, washer, etc. Check the battery, tires, brakes system, belts, radiator hose and lighting system like brake/stop, signal and head light. 16. What are components of engine lubrication system? Answers: The components are oil pump, oil filter, sump pan or oil pan, pressure relief valve, and spurt holes for engine and crankshaft lubrication. 17. How do you prioritize clients and repair on busy days? Answers: When the repair shop is very busy, I make sure that I serve customers in a first come first serve basis. This helps my clients feel that their time is valued and that my process for selecting which car to work on is fair. 18. What do you mean by CC when mentioning car efficiency? Answers: The term CC represents the unit "Cubic Centimeter" of Volume. In Engines it is used to represent the Volume of the Internal Combustion Engine of Cylinders. Answers: The main difference between diesel and petrol engines is that petrol engines use spark plugs to ignite the air-fuel mixture, while diesel engines rely on compressed air. Rudolf Diesel a Mechanical Engineer who invented diesel engine, found that the temperature of air could be made to increase high enough if it was heavily compressed.
