ASTM STP-447B 2. Purpose The purpose of this procedure is to monitor and maintain a uniform abrasive working mix. 3. Scope This test describes a procedure for measuring the particle size distribution of the abrasive. 4. Equipment/ Material:  Standard sieves, 850 μm, 600 μm, 425 μm, 300 μm, 212 μm, a catch pan and lid.  Scale or graduated cylinder, 100 ml.  Funnel 5. STANDARD REFERENCE: 5.1. ASTM STP-447B, Guidelines for Establishing Sieve Analysis Procedures. 6. Procedure.

7. Criteria Greater than 80% of the abrasive should be contained on the 850 μm , 650 μm and 425 μm screens. Less than 3 g of abrasive should be found in the catch pan. If these particle size distribution requirements are not met, the production line should be shut down and the blaster checked. The test should then be repeated.

8. Frequency
