Baby Alien -Inspired by Baby Yoda-

Welcome! I hope you will enjoy the creation of this little alien inspired by Baby Yoda! Please don't hesitate to contact me at [email protected] with any questions that you may have as you make him. Have fun! Materials You Will Need: • Crochet hook size: 3.75mm • Medium weight yarn: green (I used Mainstays Basic Yarn in “Green”) and dark brown (I used Lion Brand Yarn Just Like Butta in “Brown”) • Yarn needle • One pair of 12 mm safety eyes • Polyester fiber fill stuffing *Note: Safety eyes can be found on Etsy, Amazon, eBay, or your local craft store. The safety eyes are highly recommended, but they can be substituted with black buttons or yarn if you prefer. Final measurement for the finished Yoda will be 5 inches (12.7 cm) tall. Abbreviations: ch(s) – chain(s) sc – single crochet sts – stitches dec – sc decrease st* BLO – back loops only *Single crochet decrease stitch explanation: Insert the hook into the next stitch and yarn over. Pull a loop through so that there are now 2 loops on the hook. Insert the hook into the next stitch and yarn over. Pull a loop through so that there are now 3 loops on the hook. Yarn over again and pull the loop of yarn through all 3 loops on the hook. Note #1: Except for the cowl, all the parts of baby Yoda are crocheted in continuous rounds (you will not join each round). Note #2: In my patterns, I begin each circle with “ch 2, 6 sc in first ch.” Another way of beginning is to start with a magic circle. If you are more familiar with this method, just do 6 sc into your magic circle. Head With green yarn, Round 1: Ch 2, 6 sc in first ch. (6 sts) R2: 2 sc in each st around. (12 sts) R3: (Sc 1, 2 sc in next st), 6 times. (18 sts) R4: (Sc 2, 2 sc in next st), 6 times. (24 sts) R5: (Sc 3, 2 sc in next st), 6 times. (30 sts) R6: (Sc 4, 2 sc in next st), 6 times. (36 sts) R7-9: Sc 36. (3 total rounds) R10: (Sc 5, 2 sc in next st), 6 times. (42 sts) R11: (Sc 20, 2 sc in next st), 2 times. (44 sts) R12: (Sc 20, dec 1), 2 times. (15 sts) Fasten off, leaving a yarn tail for sewing on the nose. Begin stuffing the head. Then place the 12mm eyes between R12 and 13 on the head, with 6 sts between, and firmly press the washers onto the backs of the eyes. With the leftover yarn tail from the head, sew a little nose between the eyes, as pictured to the right. Ears (make 2) With green yarn, R1: Ch 2, 4 sc in first ch. (4 sts) R2: Sc 4. (4 sts) R3: (Sc 1, 2 sc in next st), 2 times. (6 sts) R4: (Sc 1, 2 sc in next st), 3 times. (9 sts) R5: (Sc 2, 2 sc in next st), 3 times. (12 sts) R6: (Sc 3, 2 sc in next st), 3 times. (15 sts) R7-12: Sc 15. (6 total rounds) R13: (Sc 3, dec 1), 3 times. (12 sts) Fasten off, leaving a yarn tail for sewing. Do not stuff the ears. Sew the ears to Yoda’s head, 8 rounds down from the beginning circle of the head and 5 sts back from the eyes on either side. If you want to make eyelids for your Yoda, do not cut off the yarn tail after sewing on the ears. Eyelids (optional) Depending on the look you want for your Yoda, you can easily add some eyelids by using the excess yarn tail from one of the ears to sew one stitch above and one stitch below Yoda’s eyes as pictured to the right. (I’ve included a picture at the bottom of this pattern of the finished Yoda with eyelids.) After sewing on the eyelids, secure the yarn with a knot to the inside of Yoda’s head. Body With dark brown yarn, R1: Ch 2, 6 sc in first ch. (6 sts) R2: 2 sc in each st around. (12 sts) R3: (Sc 1, 2 sc in next st), 6 times. (18 sts) R4: (Sc 2, 2 sc in next st), 6 times. (24 sts) R5: (Sc 3, 2 sc in next st), 6 times. (30 sts) R6: (Sc 4, 2 sc in next st), 6 times. (36 sts) R7: (Sc 5, 2 sc in next st), 6 times. (42 sts) R8: Sc in BLO of the previous round. (42 sts)

(21 sts) R21: (Sc 5, dec 1), 3 times. (18 sts) R22: (Sc 4, dec 1), 3 times. (15 sts) Fasten off, leaving a yarn tail for sewing. Stuff the body, but not too firmly. You want the body to hold its shape but still be squishy and sit flat on the bottom (enabling it to stand on its own). Sew the body to the head. Your Yoda will now look as pictured above. Arms (make 2) With green yarn, R1: Ch 2, 6 sc in first ch. (6 sts) R2: 2 sc in first st, sc 5. (7 sts) R3: Dec 1, sc 5. (6 sts) Switch to dark brown, R4-7: Sc 6. (4 total rounds) Now, before fastening off, chain 1 and then single crochet through both layers across the top of the arm to close it (2 sc sts across, as shown in pictures #1 and #2). Fasten off, leaving a yarn tail for sewing. Weave in the ends from the color change. Then attach the dark brown yarn to your crochet hook and inserting it into the arm right at the color change (picture #3), sc 6 around the arm to form a cuff. Fasten off, and weave in the ends. Your finished arm will look as shown in picture #4. Now sew the arms to the sides of the body, 1 round down from where the body meets the head. Your Yoda will now look as pictured to the right. Cowl Note: this cowl is crocheted in rows. With dark brown yarn, R1: Ch 42, then starting in the 2nd ch from your hook, sc 41 across. (41 sts)

R2: Ch 1, sc 41. (41 sts) R3-6: Repeat R2. (4 total rounds) Fasten off, leaving a yarn tail for sewing. To attach the cowl, wrap it around Yoda’s neck, so that the one end overlaps the other end by several stitches. Then with the yarn tail, sew the cowl together at the spot where the top end overlaps the bottom one. Sew from the top, inserting your yarn needle down through the top of the cowl (top picture on the right) and into the bottom end, and then up through the top piece (bottom picture on the right). Then position the cowl where you like it on the Yoda and do a stitch in the front to attach it to the Yoda’s body, and then weave your yarn needle through the body and do a stitch to attach it to the back of the body as well. Secure the yarn tail to the body with a knot, cut, and weave in the end. And there you go, you are done! Thank you so much for joining me in making a cute Yoda-inspired baby alien! Enjoy!
