Materials I use • W orsted weight yarn in your colour choice. (I like to use Stylecraft Special Aran in saffron, white and black). • S ize 3.00mm Crochet hook or 3.25mm hook - if you want to increase or decrease the size of the tiger – use the correct yarn type for your hook… amigurumi requires a tight tension. • Black DK cotton yarn for the nose, eyelashes and eyebrows. • 9mm black safety eyes. • Tapestry needle to weave in ends. • Poly fill stuffing.

Height of tiger is around 18cm when using worsted weight yarn and 3.00mm hook.

Abbreviations CH = chain SC = single crochet INC = single crochet increase (2 single crochets in same stitch) INV DEC = single crochet invisible decrease - see notes St(s) = stitch(es)

Notes • Pattern is in US crochet terminology. • I worked in continuous rounds. • I used a 3.00mm hook throughout the pattern to get a tight gauge. • I advise you to use a stitch marker to keep count of your stitches. • In all of my animal tiebacks I use an invisible single crochet decrease. Steps for the invisible decrease are: insert hook into front loops only of next 2 stitches, yarn over, pull through 2 loops on hook, yarn over, pull through final 2 loops on hook (ends up as 1 SC). • T he magic ring starts most of the pieces in this pattern. If you don’t want to begin this way then follow these steps: Chain 2 and crochet 6 or 5 (depending on what part of the pattern you are working on ) single crochets into the first chain and then continue onto round 2. Always pull your opening round closed tight.

Stripes with black worsted weight/aran yarn • With your yarn needle sew on some black stripes onto the tiger as shown in the photos. • I sew a line down the back of the tiger’s head and then some horizontal lines tapering towards the neck. With a thicker horizontal line a the top of the head and two slanted lines above the eyebrows. • I place 3 horizontal lines down the side of the tigers cheeks, either side of his mouth. • D epending on what side you want your tiger to face place horizontal lines straight down one side only of the body - this is the tigers back and the side that you will later be adding your tail to.

Tail (Make 1) begin with black yarn R1: 3 SC into a magic ring (3 sts) R2: (2 SC into each stitch) x 3 (6 sts) R3: SC around (6 sts) • Change colour to saffron. R4 to 12 cm long: SC around until you reach 12cm (6 sts) • F asten off leaving a long tail for sewing onto the tiger. • With black yarn sew on some small stripes to the tail as shown in the photo.

Sew on the arms underneath the head on the body and to the back of the body so the tiger’s head is looking to the correct direction that you prefer. Do the same with the legs and the tail. Make sure that the arms are securely sewn onto the body. Your tiger is complete!
