SYSTEM R-J2 Controller Networking Products

Robotics

FANUC Robotics provides a range of networking products supporting distributed I/O, remote I/O and host communications. These products allow a central network to control and monitor the SYSTEM R-J2 Controller. The R-J2 Controller networking features allow the central controller, either a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) or a Personal Computer (PC), to perform cell level control functions of the R-J2 Controller and remote devices. These functions include: cell status checks, variable manipulation and file transfers.

Remote I/O Communications The R-J2 Genius I/O Interface and the R-J2 A-B RIO Interface allow CNC and PLC controllers to remotely control I/O and obtain status information from the R-J2 Controller.

R-J2 Genius I/O Interface Basic Description The R-J2 Genius I/O Interface makes the R-J2 Controller look like a Genius I/O slave block supporting 128 inputs and 128 outputs to GE FANUC PLCs. The Genius I/O Interface allows access to the R-J2 Controller I/O including Digital, Group and UOP. R-J2 Genius I/O requires an ER-1 style PCB supporting Genius I/O and the Genius I/O Softpart. The ER-1 Genius I/O PCB connects to the Genius I/O network via a twisted pair twin axial cable.

Features and Benefits ■

Allows communication with GE FANUC PLC series 6, series 90-30 and series 90-70

Compatible with Genius network devices such as series 6 programmable controllers and IBM personal computers Significantly reduces number of components needed to interface the R-J2 Controller to a Genius I/O network Reduces costs by eliminating the need for point-to-point wiring of discrete I/O signals between the R-J2 Controller and the programmable controller and provides 128 I/O for interface Fewer electrical components and I/O interface wiring between the R-J2 Controller and peripheral equipment improve system reliability

Note 1: Available with Ethernet 10Base2 interface (Thinnet) as standard. 10Base5, 10BaseT Ethernet is optionally available.

Ethernet Communication Options The R-J2 MOTET Interface and the R-J2 ECBR-FTP Interface allow data and file transfer communication between the R-J2 Controller and a Host computer. Ethernet Software Communication Options can be supported on 10Base2 (Thinnet), 10Base5 (Thicknet) or 10BaseT (Twisted Pair) to allow interconnect with all major forms of Ethernet. The 10Base2 version is standard.

R-J2 MOTET Interface Basic Description The R-J2 MOTET Interface supports uploading and downloading of user programs, data and system files for the R-J2 Controller. System files include system variables, number and position registers and I/O configuration data. The interface also allows direct access to system and data variables for robot control via Ethernet PCBs. The R-J2 MOTET Interface communicates with the PC/Windows MOTET Interface to access variables, backup and restore user programs, data and system files. The PC/Windows MOTET Interface is a Windows™based Application Program Interface (API) which can access FANUC R-J and R-J2 Controllers. MOTET (MMS on TCP/IP Ethernet) is a FANUC Robotics proprietary protocol. MOTET handles communication between the R-J2 Controller and PC Windows MOTET Interface. This allows FANUC Robotics Works software packages to provide program storage and monitoring for the R-J2 Controller.

R-J2 ECBR-FTP The R-J2 ECBR-FTP Interface is a Host Communications feature which supports a variety of file transfer capabilities between the R-J2 Controller and a Host Computer over an Ethernet Network. The ECBR-FTP product includes support for the File Transfer Protocol (FTP) made popular with its useage over the Internet. The R-J2 FTP Interface supports uploading and downloading of user programs, data and system files to support user file maintenance and development of user programs. Many of FTP’s standard features are implemented including: open, dir, get, put and close. FTP is a part of the Ethernet Controller Backup/Restore product which allows the entire robot executive and user program image to be backed up to a host computer as one or more large files. This image can be restored to any robot controller. The image is restored using the same BOOTP and TFTP protocols developed for use over the Internet. ECBR-FTP is interoperable with a

wide variety of PC/DOS, PC/ Windows, HP and Sun Unix, and other platforms. ECBR-FTP has been qualified on the following platforms: ■

Distinct TCP/IP on Microsoft Windows 3.11

Hewlett-Packard Workstation HP-UX V9.01

SUN Workstation SunOS V4.1.3

Networking Products equipment and reduces wiring cost between R-J2 and peripheral equipment

Distributed I/O Communications FANUC Robotics’ R-J2 Model B I/O reduces wiring costs, facilitates long distance I/O connections (up to 100 meters) and easily expands the I/O system based on changing needs. Interfacing to cell devices is simplified by the family of 120 VAC and 24 VDC I/O units.

R-J2 Model B I/O

A DI/DO Unit consists of either a single I/O Base Unit or an I/O Base Unit with an attached I/O Extension Unit. One I/O Extension Unit can be connected per I/O Base Unit to expand the total number of I/O per DI/DO Unit. The DI/DO Units are mounted near the peripherals to be interfaced, reducing the wiring length required. Communication along an I/O Channel between the Model B Interface Unit and DI/DO Units is carried by a single twisted pair cable channel that is daisychained between DI/DO Units. A maximum of 15 DI/DO Units can be placed on a single Model B I/O channel.

The Model B Interface Unit communicates to the R-J2 Controller’s main CPU via the FANUC I/O Link. Model A (modular rack I/O) and Model B I/O can be mixed on the R-J2 Controller for flexibility in cell design A single twisted pair connection between the R-J2 Controller and peripheral equipment increases system reliability DI/DO Units can be installed on DIN Rails (3.5mm wide and 7.5mm high) for fast installation and maintenance

Remote mounting of I/O Units allows independent development of peripheral
