A SCANDAL IN BOHEMIA Sherlock Holmes never loved a woman, but after meeting Irene Adler he never forgot her. One night Watson went to visit him and he showed his assistant a letter with no date, name or address which said that somebody would visit him to talk about business. Some time later a tall strong man, wearing expensive clothes and a mask went in. Sherlock Holmes immediately recognized him. He was the King of Bohemia, who told him he had met a beautiful woman called Irene Adler some years before. She was a singer who lived in London, but he had left her. Sherlock guessed he had written letters to her, and the King added she also had a photograph of both. The King also told him that his men had tried to get the photograph back but they couldn’t. He was worried because he was going to get married and he didn’t want his future wife to know about his affair. He wanted to pay Sherlock Holmes to find the photograph and give it back to him. The following day Sherlock dressed as an old man and went to Irene’s house. There, he saw her and a young lawyer called Mr. Norton. He followed them to a Church. They were going to get married and as they needed a witness they asked Sherlock who was dressed as a servant. Later, Sherlock asked Watson to help him get into Irene’s house. That night they went to her house, this time dressed with different clothes and a large black hat. Some people started fighting and Sherlock was hurt. Irene saw this and took him inside her house. At that moment Watson threw a smoke-stick and cried “Fire” very loudly, so everybody ran away. Sherlock and Watson met in the street and the assistant wanted to know if Sherlock had the photograph. He answered he didn’t have it but he knew where it was. The next day Sherlock, Watson and the King went to Irene’s house but a servant told them Irene and her husband had left England. They went into the sitting room; Sherlock Holmes opened a cupboard and found the photograph and a letter. They read the letter which said that Irene knew what had happened, that she loved her husband who was a better man than the king and that she would never show the photograph. She left another photograph for the King. The King asked Sherlock how he could thank the detective so he asked him for the photograph. So there was no scandal and Sherlock still keeps the photograph of the woman who was cleverer than he was.
