Serea Amalia PE and sports in schools – 5-hour weekly minimum It is, obviously, common knowledge that physical activity plays a crucial role in the development of a healthy, well-functioning human body. People need to offer at least a few minutes a day to get their body moving in order to properly use their organism. However, the importance that sport has in the early stages of body growth is greater and should be more pleaded for. Given this topic of discussion, should governments propose a plan for a weekly minimum of 5-hour physical activities in secondary schools? One of the first reasons that should be taken into consideration is the fact that sports and PE give students the opportunity to develop important skills outside the classroom, such as commitment and teamwork. We need to give thought to the idea that education does not inquire only the memorisation of certain cultural and scientific facts, but also the development of many social and behavioural qualities. The ones mentioned above are extremely useful for aiding the students in integrating themselves in a healthy social environment. Sports can be a tremendous help in acquiring these values for the long term, especially in secondary school students. Another reason that we should think of is how physical activity promotes overall wellbeing, and choices such as walking or cycling are also better for the environment. It has been effectively proven that physical activity has benefits not only for the person that practices it, but also for the world around them. With the increasing rate of mass pollution worldwide, we need to educate students about the possible risky outcomes of this phenomenon. This is why it is extremely important to show them the advantages of taking up a sport and how it can positively affect any lifestyle. While researchers and many more have agreed that introducing this minimum programme of physical activity in secondary schools is a reliable solution, a lot more argue that this procedure should not be mandatory. Those who are against this implementation usually claim that students in secondary should be allowed to choose, or that not everyone likes sports. But, if every single person were to be left alone to command their own toxic way of living, then the world would transform into chaos. It is of great significance to guide citizens for the better, especially students who tend to be prone to more acts of rebellion than the rest. In conclusion, taking into consideration the aforementioned arguments, the introduction of more sports and physical education in the lives of students is of utmost importance and should be taken very seriously. Governments are the only institutions available to take charge of this issue and transform the proposed solutions into reality.
