Unspoken The Psychic Mentalism Q & A Solution

Jonathan Royle & W. G. Magnuson

INTRODUCTION BY JONATHAN ROYLE W. G. Magnuson is the real name of the late American Mentalist, Spiritualist and Psychic Performer who performed as Del-Ardo. During the 1920's, & 1930's he released numerous manuscripts revealing novel and often truly ingenious methods for performing various Psychic, Spiritualist and Mentalism Style Miracles. Now that so many years have passed by and the bulk of the work he ever released has legally passed over Copyright Wise into the realms of Out of Copyright and/or into the Public Domain, I felt it would be a good time to help bring his clever ideas to a wider and more modern audience. These manuscripts were often poorly typed and indeed are now very rare and hard to obtain in any readable form as given their age the print has most always worn away. However after much hard work I managed to track down a reasonably readable copy of some of his manuscripts and then spent much time trying to work out exactly what the bits of worn away text originally said. I then set to work on retyping them up into a clear and readable format but exactly word for word (where possible) as they originally appeared when released. The finishing touches were to then add my own additional ideas, thoughts, hints and tips to the original work to help the modern performer get the maximum potential out of these long forgotten classic secrets. If anything you read seems familiar and you think to yourself that “Such and Such” a person released that in their back in 1980 or 1990 or whenever, just remember that W. G. Magnuson aka Del-Ardo had these ideas, routines and methods in print back in the early to mid 1900's and indeed in many cases he mentions having first seen them performed by other people many, many years earlier.

One things for sure and that is quite simply that in the hands of a good performer and showman, these techniques from the mind of Del-Ardo could most certainly prove to be reputation making miracles! This is just one of several other similar releases that are available from all major magic dealers and also directly from the shop on our websites at http://www.magicalguru.com/shop/ and also at the direct weblink of: https://sellfy.com/JonathanRoyle Let it be known that the work by Del-Ardo is Out of Copyright and/or in the Public Domain, however I do lay claim to the Copyright on this edition and its new typeset layout, together with my personal edits, corrections and also additional ideas and thoughts contained herein. So without further ado let's go discover these Secrets from the Past...

THE MIRACLE MIND ACT For years mentalists have sought an act in which they could do away with assistants, fake apparatus, impressions... and step out alone onto a bare stage and convince any audience that they really, actually did read their minds! A noted performer once said, “The man who can create an act whereby you ask a spectator to merely think of the question and then you answer it... will be doing something... in fact he will be revolutionizing the history of mindreading.” We have experienced with various acts and methods striving to fulfill the words of this mentalist.... Trying to produce an effect of actually reading one's mind without having the spectator write his question down. It is now a fact that we have attained that act or effect and it works! At present it is used by a well known Mentalist with a great deal of success. The Act, we admit, takes nerve and adroitness... It is NOT an act for the bungler..... or “has been”, but with a fair amount of showmanship you can create a tremendous effect... and your audience will proclaim you a wonder! (Secret and Working) The main requirements for this act are.... a good knowledge of the questions spectators generally ask. There are really four distinct types of questions asked by the average audience member. Other tend to fall in line with them... as an example:

*Marriages and Love come under one type. *Sales and purchase of property, legal matters etc another type. *Trips and Journeys another. *Jobs, Work & Financial Issues yet another. AND YOU MUST REMEMBER that vast majority of average questions can be answered with a simple “YES” or “NO” You step up onto the platform carrying nothing but a small scratch pad and pencil and announce that you are going to attempt the impossible. You can freely state that you are different from any other Mentalist... You do not have people write down their questions, but simply have them silently think of them instead. Make your lecture strong as this is indeed the truth! State that you will come into the audience, amongst them and those wishing to have their questions answered should raise their hand... Now Step down into the audience... Let us say you step up to a lady. With pad in your hand tell her to think of her question. As you say this look at her carefully.... observe her.... If she is a young woman you will know it is a marriage or love problem. With the pencil you scribble “YES, things will come out to your expectations!” Make the writing poor... so when you show it to her she will have some difficulty making it out. Shove it before her and say, “There's your answer”

Nine out of ten times you will have answered her question to her satisfaction, whatever it may have been! You quickly pass onto the next party and simply write “YES” Now if the women pretends or acts as if she can't make out your writing... she will say “I wanted to know so-and-so”... To which you reply “Here it is Madam! I Said Yes” and point to the writing and quickly pass on to the next rasied hand. BE BOLD... don't be afraid to TELL THEM... “Here, can't you read... I said YES, that's right”. And then the party rather than argue will say yes in answer to your question or shake their head. What you want is the effect on your audience, understand this, and if you can get an acknowledgement or what looks like one, fine and dandy, then you will have created that effect on your audience. I repeat that nearly ten out of every ten questions can be answered with either a YES or a NO. Step up to a gentlemen... the chances are he will be thinking either about a sale, a legal matter, a trip or a love affair. Now any of these can be answered with a simple YES or NO and you have answered the thought. If you see a special reaction you can always build up in a further addition to the answer. A young girl in most cases wants to know if her boyfriend loves her... here you can take a chance and write “YES he loves you” and even if she says “I wanted to know if I would get married” you can reply “That is exactly what I mean madam, he loves you enough so that he will marry you, YES” You could also say NO to any of them and still answer their question...

Suppose you step up to an elderly lady and she is thinking of a lost article, a trip, sale of property or similar... Now you can scribble onto your pad, “No, conditions will not be in your favor” or “I do not see these conditions materializing to your benefit” “or expectations” meaning she will not find the lost item (if that was her thought) or her husband will not get the job (if that was her thought) Or she will not take the trip, etc. The reader must readily understand that he cannot stand and talk or argue with the spectator... but he must be FIRM or “hard” and say “Yes that is exactly what I have here, look I said NO you will not etc” And then very rapidly pass onto the next person! And here is another thing, in a nightclub there is, regardless of the “floorshow” a lot of other noise. In most cases you will be talking almost confidentially to most parties you stop in front of. MANY WHO READ THIS SAY IT CAN'T BE DONE The party who used this and brought it into prominence is non other than A. N. Rossi, known as Dr. Francis A. Nicholas. He was an understudy to Joseph Ovette (The Great Marjan) and was for many years up until 1937 a Rockford, Illinois resident. In his hands this was a piece of master showmanship.

In fact he is the only mentalist who played one night club in Peoria, Illinois for six consecutive months and much of his success was due to using this method. Again before leaving the reader we point out that the success of this act lies in Showmanship, Nerve and Confident Speech and Manner. If you have the slightest doubt to as your ability to put it across then Leave it alone! For this reason we have recommended this to experienced performers only. ROYLES COMMENTS In the very lates 80's and early 90's I used to perform a show called “Bridges From Beyond” in Civic Halls and Theatres in the Northwest of England. This was apparently a genuine demonstration of Clairvoyance and Psychic Abilities and I expose all of the real world Secrets I used in my package entitled “The Psychic Secrets of Alex-Le-Roy” which you can obtain with a massive 50% discount from this link: https://sellfy.com/p/1eRX/-ANSWERS/ During this time I was billed as “Britain's Fastest Medium” and the marketing angle was that more people would get a Spirit Message from a deceased loved one or relative at my show than they would attending any by other Mediums. Ultimately it was the last ten minutes of the show where the messages were given thick and fast, after I had explained that when I turn on the “Psychic Tap” inside my mind things will come flooding through rapidly so you all have to pay attention as what I verbalise from Spirit may well be for you. I then just walked around the audience saying sentences like “I've got John here and he sends a Red Rose as a Symbol of strength” and other nonsense along those lines whilst just pointing at general areas of the audience. It is my experience that after the shows people would come up and tell me

how happy they were that they got a message and how accurate it was, such is the desire to believe. And it is that desire to believe that makes “The Miracle Mind Act” so effective. Once you have used it several times in the real world and built up your confidence using it, then I am sure you will come to realise that it is just as effective to give your answers out loud as it is to write them down. Especially if you have by then studied and mastered the techniques as taught in my package “The Psychic Secrets of Alex-Le-Roy” which you can grab at a 50% off discounted rate here; https://sellfy.com/p/1eRX/ANSWERS/

A GENUINE DEL-ARDO ASSOCIATES EFFECT

THE KHIRRON SINGLE SITTING (Effect) The Medium hands the sitter a small piece of paper, a pencil and an ordinary coin envelope. He requests the sitter to write on the piece of paper, her name, age, occupation, street address and also three important questions. The sitter is to write on one side of the paper only and as soon as she has written the questions she is instructed to fold same into a small billet. This she is then told to seal in the envelope and place onto the table. The medium now takes the envelope in his hands, never allowing it to leave the sight of the sitter and after a few minutes concentration he gives a very remarkable and extremely accurate test reading or single sitting as this is generally termed in the séance business. (Method) This is the original method as is said to have been used by a very famous Clairvoyant and Trance Medium in his work of private readings. It is different in that it does not employ the usual methods, such as wax or carbon impressions, boards, alcohol gimmicks, duplicate billets and envelopes or switches etc. This new system does away with all these methods and employs but one envelope and one billet and those are the same ones that the spectator himself handled. The enclosed sample envelope is the type that the medium uses in this test method. The reader will note that this is what is termed the “coin envelope” style, having an end opening flap and being manila.

These are available at any Stationary store for about 15c per hundred. The paperto be used for writing on should be of the size of about 2 and a half to 3 to five inches and it should be of a grain that will not make too much noise when it is unfolded. The Medium uses an envelope like the enclosed sample, which you will notice that the envelope is faked up, that is, with the aid of a knife the lowermost end flap has also been opened so that it is now an envelope with a flap that opens at both ends. However the sitter does not see this for just before sitter is admitted into the séance room the medium, with a mere touch of paste fastens the lower flap back into place again. The envelope can now be safely left in the sitters hands without fear of detection. When the sitter is through folding his or her billet and after he has placed same into the envelope and sealed it, the medium then picks the envelope up from the table, standing facing the sitter. There is where the trickery comes in. As he picks up the envelope he remarks to the sitter, “Did you place your birthdate hereon?” This has the effect of causing the sitter to look up to the mediums eyes as she answers. At this moment the left thumb nail of the medium clips the lowermost flap (that he just pasted in place) and it is unloosened again. Folded down in the palm it remains invisible and the sitter does not see that his envelope is now without a bottom. At same moment, the fingers of the mediums right hand squeeze the ends and edges of the enevelope so that the billet now drops down into the left hand plam of the medium, and with the same movement the flap is pushed up in place again by the thumb.

Now the medium again lays the envelope on the table but slightly away from the sitter so that he or she cannot see the lossened flap this being face down towards the table. Picking up a small school slate the medium now transfers the billet he stole in the palm to behind the slate. Under cover of asking the sitter for his birthdate and writing same onto the slate the medium as the reader can readily guess, opens the billet, memorising all the dope thereon. To get rid of the billet when he has read and memorized same he merely lays the slate face down on the chair or stand, billet underneath it and he then signifies that his mystical calculations on the astrological or horoscope from sitters birthdate is finished, and he at once starts the reading. After he has told the sitter hir or her name and a few other things, he it appears, gets stuck on one question. He seems to fail in answering same and just then he notices the envelope on the table nearby. The result is that the medium picks it up and apparently starts to open it.. Then he changes his mind... Shakes his head and with a few quick movements of his fingers, he tears the envelope (billet is supposed to still be inside) to pieces and tosses same into a waste basket nearby. Then he continues with the reading after little effort and all evidence of any fakery is now destroyed. ANOTHER EDITION OF THE MANUSCRIPT SAID: The method that made a fortune for the late Khirron the Mystic is simplicity itself yet when he presented this as he did many times in one

day he fooled some of the best of Magicians as well as the laymen. (As far as the writer knows Khirron is the only Mystic who as of today advertised that he could cause his Astral Soul to travel to distant places, check on the wellfare of friends, relatives etc. even in foreign countries, and he got away with it) A victim of Arthritis, in his wheelchair he could get along better and faster than most normal persons. Khirron would give the sitter a manila end opening coin envelope and a piece of paper, upon which the sitter was to write one or two important questions. Then, even while his back was turned, Khirron would instruct the sitter to fold his question slip and seal it into the envelope. Now in a matter of a few seconds Khirron would give a remarkable reading, answering the questions etc. (The Method He Used) The slip of paper was ordinary and unprepared, but the envelope he gave to the sitter was “fixed”. The bottom flap was opened or loosened, then pasted back in place with a dab of library paste. Khirron would take the envelope, sealed, from the sitter in his right hand, smooth or front side towards the sitter. With his thumbnail he would “flip” open the bottom end of the envelope and at the same time slightly squeeze the envelope sides... The billet then automatically falls into the palm of the hand! Again his thumb pushes the bottom flap into place and he lays it at his end of the table out of reach of the sitter.

Now wheeling away he would return with a slate, however as he rolled across the room, his legs may have been dead but his fingers were not! He would open the billet, read it, refold it and again palm it in his hand. Returning he would point to the envelope and ask “Did you sign your birthdate on the slip?” Receiving a “No” for the answer (as he never made such a request before) Khirron now picks up the envelope (empty) from the table, tears off the bottom end and “dumps” (apparently) the billet into the palm of his hand (where the billet is originally) and then hands it back to the sitter asking them to write their birthdate upon it. Now Khirron already knowing the questions hands the sitter an unprepared envelope, tells him to seal the slip within it and in a short time answers the questions and also allowing the sitter to take the sealed envelope home with them. Personally I never saw Khirron operate, but Wilton Johnson, a cousin of mine, brother in law to KARMA the Mystic gave me a full, vivid description of his operations. And. From the literature that Khirron used to put out he must have been a “Clairvoyant Extraordinary!!” Nevertheless, here it is, and if you have the nerve to do it, you'll perhaps find that it is really the simplicity of it that “gets” the suckers, just like everything else! A GENUINE DEL-ARDO ASSOCIATES EFFECT

THE ELLIS MIND READING ACT (The Effect) The side show manager delivers a short lecture on mental telepathy and then introduces the lady medium, whom he explains, can through psychological analysis and mental telepathy, answer any short question of a serious nature. Small pads and pencils are passed out to interested spectators standing near the pit rail, with the request that they write down their impportant question and then sign it with their initials. Then they are instructed to fold the squre of paper in half and in half again in the opposite direction so they end up with a small billet. While the questions are being written the medium is blindfolded and seated behind a small table on her platform. The folded billets are now collected in an ordinary glass bowl and without any apparent trickery these are emptied out onto one side of the table at which the blindfolded medium sits. Picking up one of the billets the manager, who now stands on the platform alongside of the medium, holds it up high above his head and asks the Seeress to concentrate on this question. This she does and answers it to the satisfaction of the person who wrote it. The question thus answered is now unfolded and verified by the manager who confirms that it is indeed correct. In this manner all questions are answered, writers being called and indentified by their initials, etc. (The Method) Yes, this is the mentalists friend, the old one-ahead system in new dress

and presented in such a way as to fool even those who are acquainted with ordinary mind reading methods. When the billets are collected, a fake billet is added to the genuine ones, this fake looks like the genuine ones but on the outside of it it placed a small mark to distinguish it from the others. Or a plant can be used and his billet is marked. In any event the billets are emptied out onto one side of the small table and one of them is picked up, but the manager is careful not to pick up the marked one as this is always left until last. Holding this genuine billet above his head he asks the medium to answer it which of course she does. But she gives the answer to the fake or planted billet, and then the manager opens the billet and apparently confirms that the medium answered it correctly. Leaving this billet unfolded he now puts it down onto the table, written side up, but not with the unfolded billets. He now picks up another folded billet and holds it above his head asking the medium to answer that one. In the meantime, the medium who was previously blindfolded looks down alongside of her nose and reads the billet the performer or manager just placed onto the table. She can easily see down the nose because the blindfold is of thick material. The manager it will be remembered holds up another billet and to this the medium gives the answer needed for the one she just read on the table. In this same manner, working one ahead all the time, all the billets are answered, the fake marked one being the last one to be picked up. Throw off any wise ones by using one or two extra fake billets and after

answering them, these can be tossed out to the audience for inspection and it will fool anyone who knows of the one ahead system. ROYLES COMMENTS If using a plant or stooge they can of course verbally confirm loud and clear from the audience that the first question answered is correct. However if you are not using a plant or stooge, then the performer upon the medium having answered the question, simply must look into the audience and act as if they have seen someone catching their attention. Then the performer merely says something such as “Thank you Sir for raising your hand and letting us know that was correct” Then the performer changes where he is looking (so people don't have time to realise he is talking to a make believe person) and looks around the entire audience as he says “But please everybody, there is no reason to be shy, so when our medium has answered your question please let us know loud and clearly” Then by the end of the act nobody will remember that the first person (who did not exist) did not verbally confirm things.

A GENUINE DEL-ARDO ASSOCIATES EFFECT

DEL-ARDO PRIVATE READING METHOD (The Effect) A plain blank business card is given to the sitter, on which he writes two or three important questions and to which he signs his name. One side of the card is written on only and when through he is told to place his card face down onto the table, writing face downwards. The medium now takes the card, face down, and seals it in a coin evvelope which he gives to the sitter to hold. The sitter now writes his birth date onto the face of the envelope. Almost immediately the Seer or Medium, calls the sitter by name and answers his secretly thought of questions. (The Method) A trial will convince even the beginner that here is one of the finest, slickest, most foolproof methods yet invented, because it actually requires no skill, practice or study. Enclosed is a sample coin envelope, specially prepared and it is this old time “window frame” operated in a different way, that permits such smooth working that even “old timers” who are aquainted with ordinary “cut envelope” methods are fooled! From your local stationery store obtain a supply of these coin envelopes along with blank visiting cards that will fit inside them. Now into one envelope insert a piece of cardboard and then cut out the face of the envelope so that it ends up with a very large hole or window in it through which it would be easy to see and read anything that had been written onto the card that was placed inside of it. Also cut the flap off the envelope as well.

(To Operate) Have three envelopes that are not prepared and into the top one place a blank card exactly like that which you will hand to the sitter later for writing his questions onto. Now on top of these three you put your “window frame” and pull out the flap of the envelope below it so that it looks like that flap belongs to the top faked one. Got That? Envelopes are held with the flap side upwards. When the sitter has written his card and it is placed face down on the table, approach him with the enveloped in the plam of your left hand in the order given above. Take his card, writing side downwards and shove it into the top envelope which unknown to him is the cut out one. Now grab the first flap with the right hand and pull it out, your left thumb rests down on the window frame envelope as this is done. Apparently it is the top envelope that the flap belongs to but it is really the second one down which has a blank card inside it. Seal the envelope and hand it to the sitter who will think it contains his card and ask him to write his birthdate onto it. While he is writing you turn your right side towards him slightly and with the left thumb of which hand still holds the two emptys and the fake, Flip over the top one and the sitters questions and name will then be staring you in the face. Get this “dope” quickly through the open window frame, even if you have to walk across the room to pick up a pad or slate on which to write your impressions as you give him his reading.

Put the envelopes in your pocket before you do so and to be set for the next sitter you can use the same faked envelope after removing the first “suckers” question card and loading it in the next one to the top, again. I burn “his” envelope (the one he is holding) in a brass bowl “to make him ocncentrate all the more” and thus by so doing all evidence of the method is destroyed. The buring of the sitters envelope makes it impossible for him to walk out with his enevlope and discover that it does not contain his question card. A drop of lighter fluid or alcohol helps with burning it rapidly. (The Magnuson Method of using the Del-Ardo Envelope) Have ten or twelve envelopes in the left hand as described earlier, but the envelope directly under the faked envelope has a small pencil mark on the face side in one corner. Or nick it slightly with your fingernail so that you can recognise it from any other envelope. When the sucker (I beg your pardon I mean the sitter) comes into the reading parlor, toss three unprepared envelopes and three cards onto the table before him and say... “You have the privilege of having three questions answered during the reading, so please write a question down onto one side of each of these three cards and then turn them face down onto the table” When the writing has been completed, walk over and pick up one card and say: “I want you to seal each card in an envelope like this” (Suiting action to words you place the one you picked up into the window envelope, pull out the flap of the next envelope and seal it tossing it down onto the table, apparently you have just showed them how you want the cards placed into the envelopes and then sealed)

While the sitter is inserting and sealing the other two cards turn slightly away and see what the question is on the card you have in your hands. The other two cards having been sealed, pick up the extra envelope on the table and put it away with the rest in your hand. Take the three sealed envelopes and shuffle them, absent mindedly and then pick out one that does not contain your secret mark and hold it to your head and concentrate. Now in a roundabout way and to the best of your ability answer the question that you learned by reading through the window frame envelope gimmick. After getting your impressions, tear the envelope open, look at it and add a few more words of advice, secretly reading what that question is! This being the old one ahead system again. Replace the card in the envelope and place it to one side. Then take the other envelope which does not have your secert mark upon it and go through the same process and line of crap. Get impressions, vibrations, influences (or what have you!) and answer that (?) question. Of course after opening that envelope and verifying it you now have the next question to be answered. All you have left is the marked envelope which holds nothing but a blank card. Pick up this last envelope, hold to your head, or ask the sitter to grab one end tightly “to get the vibrations” and then answer this “thought”. Tear it open and make believe that you are reading and verifying the question, give a few more words of advice, reinsert the blank card into the

envelope and then... Take all three envelopes and tear them (and the cards) into small pieces, dropping them into your wastebasket, remarking “I do not wish to keep any questions involving my clients so therefore I destroy them” At five to twenty five dollars a reading you can afford to destroy coin envelopes and cards all day (and night) long! Try this and you'll really enjoy it for fun or profit.
