Learning activity 3 Evidence: What will have happened by then? You are going to think carefully about the future. You need to consider a few topics and, then, describe the events that will have happened by certain time around these topics. For this evidence, you will need to complete two parts. For Part A, you need to write three texts describing your expectations around some of the most important sport events that take place during a year time. Then, for Part B, you will have to record a tape in which you talk about your own future in relation to certain professional and personal aspects. Let’s begin! Part A Look at the following calendar. It shows four important sport events that will take place next year. You will need to write a text in which you predict the results for each of the sporting majors. Have a look of the calendar and the events pointed out.

Now, write three texts that include your sporting predictions for three of the sporting events in the calendar. You can carry out a little research about each of the events in order to gather information before writing; or, you can also be very imaginative and create the whole setting for each of your writings. One example has been done for you. The Super Bowl By February 1st next year, one of the most important events in the world of sport, The Super Bowl, will have taken place in Arizona (USA). I’m sure the New England Patriots, will win the Super Bowl next year because they have had a great season so far. Their Quarterback, Tom Brady, has had some very good games during the regular season and the team has beaten several big rivals; such as the Green Bay Packers and the Denver Broncos. The playoffs will take place in January. I think that by mid-January the Patriots will have beaten the Broncos again in order to reach the final. I believe the Packers, another great team, will be on the final by February 1st, too; however, as the Patriots are the most consistent of teams, I am sure that by the end of the day, they will have won the big game and will be crowned Super Bowl champions.

Augusta – The Championship The 2020 Masters Tournament will be the 84th edition of the Masters Tournament and was originally scheduled as the first of four major golf championships to be held in 2020. But due to the unexpected COVID-19 pandemic, this event, which was originally scheduled for the week of April 9 to 12, has been postponed to the week of November 12 to 15. Fred Ridley, president of the Augusta National Golf Club, has publicly announced that this year's Masters will be played from November 9-15 with no sponsors or fans on the course. Until now, specialists pointed to Rory McIlroy as the No. 1 candidate to win at the Augusta National Golf Club. But the odds have changed, placing the ‘scientist’ as the big favorite, with odds of 10-1, followed by Rory, at 12-1, and by Jon Rahm and Brooks Koepka, at 14-1.

The World Series

The 2020 Wimbledon Championship was a Grand Slam tennis tournament to be played at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in Wimbledon, London, UK, between June 29 and July 12. But it was canceled early due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The tournament cancellation was announced on April 1, 2020. The London tournament announced that it would distribute cash prizes to the 620 players who were going to be in the game in this edition, something that caused joy and respect for many tennis players. The last to do so was Lukas Lacko who, in addition to congratulating the Wimbledon tournament, threw a dart at the US Open: "Hats off to Wimbledon. This is how the players are taken care of. The US Open should learn from this and not encourage fool around. We can resume the circuit later, when conditions are better. "

The World Series is the final postseason series of Major League Baseball, played between the champions of the National and American leagues. Because it is played in the month of October, it is also known as the Autumn Classic. The 2020 Major League Baseball season has been shortened by the COVID-19 pandemic. Spring training resumed on July 1 rebranded as "Summer Camp". Each team will play 60 regular season games, which began on July 23 with the defending World Series champion Washington Nationals facing the New York Yankees, and is scheduled to end on September 27. An expanded 16-team postseason tournament is then scheduled to begin on September 29. The World Series is set to begin on October 23, and a potential Game 7 would be played on October 31.

Read the following topics. Think carefully about all the aspects concerning you future in relation to the topics on the list. Then, structure a short talk (about 3 minutes) in which you express your predictions about each of the topics in mention.    

Your plans for this evening. Your plans for the rest of the week. Your next birthday. How your life will be different in the years’ time.

Now, record your tape. Describe each of the events you predicted chronologically based on the order in which each of the situations will happen. Be as creative as possible. LIST:  Your plans for this evening: Tonight will be very normal and a bit boring like the ones I have had since the start of the pandemic. My family has a board game night every week, possibly today. If not, I will continue reading the book I just got as a birthday present. Finally before going to sleep, I check my social networks and chat with friends while listening to the songs that I like the most from the indie genre.  Your plans for the rest of the week: My rest of the week will focus on presenting the final activities of my school, it is the last week before the end of the term and my goal will be to raise my partial grades to be among the first places in my grade.  Your next birthday: On my next birthday I will come of age. In those days I plan to go and obtain my citizenship card and do the necessary procedures to start my working life. As a celebration, I plan to visit a disco for the first time and celebrate the night in a good party with my friends.

 How your life will be different in the years’ time: I plan in the long term for my life to change completely, starting with my place of residence, which depends on whether I admit to a university in Ibague or Bogotá. If I manage to settle in Bogotá, I would start living with my older brothers and they would guide me in my working life. If, on the contrary, my path goes to Ibague, I would start autonomously with my studies, residency and financial support.
